exclusive interview, the man who wrote the introduction to the book, historian michael beschloss. thanks for joining me tonight. >> thanks for asking me. >> in today's "new york times" maureen dowd wrote, she maintains her reputation of jfk's best image wizard, a novelistic observer of history and the most compelling political spouse we'll ever see. is that a reasonable summary of the jacqueline kennedy tapes? >> i rarely disagree with maureen on some things and i sure don't here. i think that's right. one of the things that really is a surprise about this book is that she had so many different opinions about people, very strong ones. pro and con. that we had a little bit of a hint of. but i think the surprise is that these things had political impact. before this book, i think you would not have put jacque kennedy among the key political figures of the kennedy administration.
