morgue. on the way down to lower manhattan he called again and said go to st. vincent's hospital because the injured would be coming. so i began my day in scrubs and later in a gas mask seeing people coming into the hospital and then as the days went on, walking all around ground zero in the dust and the soot, blessing and anointing and consoling and encouraging, and i have to say being inspired by the wonderful courage of our police officers and our emergency workers and our firefighters. it was a tragic experience, a very difficult experience, as you said for years i never talked about it at all. now i look back on it as a time of inspiration and a time, i might add, chris, of real holiness.
