eamon javers is with us from washington, d.c. as part of the cnbc staff covering this. eamon, i'm reading this figure that the damage estimate, the loss estimate, $2 billion. now, does that mean police overtime, houses that went into the drink, people have to replace their ducks and lost revenue from the folks, the million people who had to leave the new jersey shore? >> reporter: not quite. that's a figure of what the insurance estimates will be alone. insurance on private property so far. the estimates we're seeing come in so far are 2 billion or north. obviously those are very preliminary numbers at this point. we're trying to get our arms around exactly what the impact is on the insurance companies but most of the companies have said they do have adequate capital and will be in fine position to handle this. a separate cost of that is going to be the question of what the federal government has to pay here. obviously fema is very involved in the disaster efforts here and those fema folks are going out
