president is out of town when something like this is happening. something this important. but clearly he is surrounded by all of the information that he needs to have. is and will be making a statement, he said, when everything is confirmed. at this stage they have not confirmed what is going on. we can see the pictures, the live pictures that we're broadcasting. and hear the reports that richard engel had on "nightly news." but the state department is trying to take all this information and get credible reports but they do not know for sure what has happened to gadhafi. they believe that he is still in tripoli. that was their last information. they have no evidence that he has actually left. >> i want to let everybody know, we are expecting a statement from the president. we're not exactly sure when. when that does happen, we'll jump right out of our conversation and go straight to him and we'll do that when it happens. let's to go kristen welker.
