in november, in states that voted for president trump. they voted yes on neil gorsuch, but terry, tremendous pressure on them now. do they stay with their party, the democrats, do they risk their own seat here? >> reporter: that's it, david. they're getting it coming and going. tonight, for example, the white house reached out to these vulnerable red state democrats and invited them to the primetime announcement of president trump's pick, they each declined. you know, it's one thing to vote for neil gorsuch, a conservative replacing conservative justice antonin scalia, it's another thing altogether to vote for a swing justice who could overturn roe versus wade. >> all right, for folks at home, it's not just the three democrats. there are two republicans being watched, too. take a look again. senators susan collins of maine, lisa murkowski of alaska, both moderates. and terry, they'll also be crucial votes here, particularly on the issue of a woman's right to choose, as we just heard from senator collins. >> reporter: that's right. that is her red line. and they are under tremendous pressure, as well. both of them were also invited to the primetime announcement and both of them respectfully declined, as well. it just shows how the cross currents of this nomination battle are going to cut in
