>> i can begin the process of returning to the anchor chair. i'm coming home. >> reporter: in a live interview from her home, "good morning america" anchor robin roberts announced she's mending well and plans to return to work. >> going to take it step by step. again, we're talking about weeks, not months. >> reporter: roberts took medical leave while seeking treatment for a bone marrow disorder. the condition developed while undergoing chemo therapy for breast cancer. >> this has been brutal. every day taking 10 or 15 tablets. whether you have enough energy to get out of bed. >> reporter: doctors gave her the thumbs up to return after her last bone marrow test showed no abnormalities. >> it's like an athlete coming off injured reserve. they don't go back to the starting lineup. >> reporter: while you won't see her on air immediately, she'll be doing dry runs to see how her body reacts.
