spend on infrastructure. there's a real brain drain. people are leaving. it might not be a coup, might not be a military overthrow. it might just be incompetence that could drive this former bus driver from office, dana. >> dana: i also wanted to ask you about guaido. now that maduro said guaido is responsible for the power outages and there's an investigation into him, is he safe in that country right now? >> reporter: he's not safe. the maduro regime has thrown previous opposition leaders in jail. i don't think anyone would put it past this regime to throw him in jail or kill him. he's been on the loose though for six weeks, going in and out of the country. some people think he hasn't been thrown in jail because he has such widespread international support. others say by throwing him in jail, it would make him a hero and martyr, giving him the status of power that he doesn't have right now on the ground in venezuela. >> dana: steve harrigan, thank for bringing us the story.
