outside of kabul. if you look at the next two years, it doesn't suggest there's a commitment to success in afghanistan, which the president laid out in december of 2009. i think this is an incredibly short sighted move for a president who made the argue that this was the good war. this was the crucial war. we had to win it. it's far from clear that we're winning it. we've had some success i think it's fair to say, sense the surge, despite the fact that the president announced the surgery and withdrawal in the same speech. we've had some limited success in the south and elsewhere and not as much in the east. but what the president is announcing today seems altogether too clever, too cute by half, trying to make a political argument or a public relations play when we should be talking about war and peace. >> but, charles, even the political argument seems to fall short because much of the politics here seems to indicate that america would like all our
