you're on the democratic side. it appears that the laundry list continues to grow of these surrogates who are speaking out against president obama's policies. what's going on? >> well, i don't think that president clinton is necessarily speaking out against his policies. he's saying there should be a temporary extension of the bush tax cuts and as you know, president obama said no. he wants to negotiate a long-term deal with republicans even going back to the grand bargain but i think president clinton is saying, you know what? if we just had a temporary extension, then we can get a budget deal. president obama has been trying to hardball negotiations with republicans by saying no deal. and so, you know, on one level i'll say this -- it comes across to me on -- this is not the first time, gretchen, for clinton. he also said that romney had a sterling business record. >> no, this has become daily. >> right. so i think -- my theory is he wants to be the big dog in the democratic ranks and he doesn't want anybody to mistake the president obama as the true -- >> that could be one theory or he's just speaking his mind and
