from the ground and twisted apart with the incredible force of the winds of this twister. such a rare thing happening here in massachusetts, completely unexpected as people were watching their local news yesterday evening. they knew it was time to head for the basement. we're hearing incredible stories of survival, cars crushed beneath rubble as people are waking up to see their belongings, their homes torn apart as well as their cars and garages literally crumpled beneath the wood. the national guard has been called in the, and you don't see that every in springfield east. about a thousand members on the ground, and on my drive out to this area from boston this morning, dozens upon dozens of fire departments lined up in a caravan heading in this direction. so the clean-up is underway, and authorities are just trying to insure everyone's safe, asking people to call if they smell gas and avoid any wires because the danger isn't over yet. they want to insure that people that are cleaning up in the midst of all this debris and mess are safe as well. jon: we hear the sirens in the background.
