some politicians from criticizing gun laws in america. shannon bream, live in our d.c. bureau, the congresswoman wasn't just a casual supporter of gun rights, shannon. tell us about her history on this issue. >> reporter: jon, she's a long time gun owner supportive of what she said of the right of all americans to legally own guns under the second amendment. she signed on to a brief with the supreme court, you may remember that landmark case in 2008 that struck down restrictive gun laws in the district of columbia that amount to an all-out ban, she said i believe the right to keep and bear arms should not be dependent upon the city in which you live, following the major decision at the supreme court, she also voted for legislation after that that was aimed at making sure resident necessary washington would truly be able to own guns. jon: but in the wake of this tragedy a lot of lawmakers are speaking out, they're making points, i guess, because of what happened. >> reporter: and this is usually a tough split for democrats because they don't line up on this issue. yesterday one of the first remarks we heard on this issue was from representative carolyn
