"the washington post" today. in it, you talked about how he overcame a house and senate dominated by democrats to pass major legislation. let me read a line or two from your article. his achievements brought forth a new era of global opportunity dramatically different from the one he and reagan inherited in 1981. it was that quiet bush style that helped make such a dramatic transformation possible. how was he able to be so successful while also being so relatively quiet? >> well, george bush had a way of connecting with the people he had to deal with. he was empathetic. he put himself in the shoes of the person he had to negotiate with and he worked hard to create a win-win. that's why he ended up passing more domestic legislation than any president except lyndon johnson or franklin roosevelt. they were significant achievements. it was always by virtue of
