you know, the russians were definitely involved in trying to influence our elections. they are some of the best in the world when it comes to disinformation. and we as a country need to be having a broader conversation about what is our counter disinformation strategy? it's not -- it doesn't just sit with the state department's responsibility alone. i was recently out in eastern europe. i was in estonia, poland, ukraine, and i've learned the closer you are to russia, the less likely you are to believe what they say. and the converse of that is true as well. the farther you are the more likely you are to be influenced. we need to look at a whole government approach and look at working with civil society as well. this is a big issue. not only with russia, but as you all alluded to earlier, in the fight against islamic terrorism. we can continue to put the pressure on isis and iraq and syria and our military is doing a good job about that, but we have to be countering the ideology and the ability to
