Despite the insecurity ravaging virually every part of Nigeria, the police in Rivers State said they have deployed no fewer than 17,500 personnel for Saturday’s local government elections in the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, made this known in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Mr Omoni, a superintendent of police, said the deployment of the personnel and hardware was aimed to forestall possible violence and ensure free, fair and transparent exercise.
