A Des Moines police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after being charged with misconduct in office for allegedly interfering with a case involving his girlfriend.
Rodney Alan Briggs was arrested Wednesday by the Altoona Police Department, according to a news release from Des Moines police, and the Des Moines Police Department Office of Professional Standards has begun an investigation.
Briggs exceeded his authority as an officer by attempting to persuade employees of the Southeast Polk Community School District to provide him with video evidence related to an ongoing Altoona Police Department investigation that involves his girlfriend, according to a criminal complaint.
