Des Moines County Public Health Administrator Christa Poggemiller said COVID-19 vaccination efforts have been hugely successful, largely thanks to coordination from local entities.
"I want to thank all of the other agencies — Great River Health System, Emergency Management and all of the volunteers," Poggemiller said.
Poggemiller told the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors at its Tuesday meeting that, as of Tuesday morning, 12,100 county residents had gotten at least one shot.
While Johnson & Johnson has gotten Food and Drug Administration approval for a single-shot vaccine, Poggemiller said it is unlikely the county will get it. Most of the vaccines Des Moines County has gotten have been from Pfizer, but Poggemiller said Moderna vaccines may be coming soon.
