Scotland’s Celtic Football Club, which is controlled by Irish billionaire financier Dermot Desmond, posted a near £5.9m (€6.7m) loss in the first half of its financial year, compared to a £24.2m profit in the corresponding period a year earlier.
The stock market-listed company said revenue declined 24pc to almost £40.7m (€46.6m) in the six months to the end of December.
The club, in which Mr Desmond has been a shareholder for more than 20 years, is currently second in the Scottish Premiership behind arch-rivals Rangers. Celtic have 61 points compared to Rangers’ 79.
Celtic told shareholders that 2020 saw it conclude the most successful decade in the history of the club, having won 20 trophies.
