Department of Labor: Unemployment remains elevated in GLOW region

BATAVIA — Unemployment rates remain elevated a year after the COVID-19 pandemic struck locally in the GLOW region.
The state Department of Labor has released its unemployment statistics for February 2021. They show rates remain at least a full percentage point higher compared to the same time in 2020.

That compared to 5 percent, or about 1,500 people in February 2020.
nOrleans County’s unemployment rate was 7.6 percent, equivalent to about 1,300 people.
That compared to 5.9 percent, or about 1,000 people, in February 2020.
nWyoming County’s unemployment rate was 7.4 percent, equivalent to about 1,300 people.
That compared to 6.1 percent, or about 1,100 people in Feburary 2020.
nLivingston County’s unemployment rate was 6.4 percent, or about 1,900 people.
