Revenue Quebec’s assorted health charges and the new tax credit for digital news subscriptions were among the topics raised in recent reader letters. Here’s what they wanted to know.
Q: Our son is a graduate student working on his master’s degree. Last year, he received a grant of $20,000 (tax-free) to continue his research and studies. Since he turned 27 last year, our private medical insurance plan no longer covers him. He was assessed $642 for drug coverage by RAMQ (Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec) in 2020. Is this charge the norm that everyone must pay, salary or no salary? What about people who are unemployed or on welfare?
