More than a year after the original ribbon cutting was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony to officially open the El Eden Splash Park was held Wednesday morning.
The project cost $1,018,933 of which $551,270 was obtained from community block grant money and the remaining $467,663 from district property funds. The original ribbon cutting ceremony was planned for March 3, 2020.
“This project is long overdue as we started it more than two years ago, and we had the opportunity to open it up last year. But unfortunately with the COVID situation that came about about we started shutting a lot of our departments for safety purposes, especially with the rise of COVID that wasn’t going down at all and just kept going up and up,” Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tempore Rudy Gonzalez Jr. said. “But finally, we come to this day for the million-dollar project. Even though I am one of those who tries to save as much money as I can, when the time came I put in for a large project as I just want to see the smile in the kids’ faces.”
