Delaware's allocation of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines, the only single-dose shot in use in the U.S., is expected to plummet next week.
The number of J&J vaccines sent to Delaware is expected to drop from 14,300 this week to 1,700 next week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The nation is dealing with J&J supply shortages after 15 million doses of the J&J vaccine had to be thrown out at a Baltimore production facility in late February. The New York Times reported workers at the plant, which manufactures J&J and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines, conflated ingredients, contaminating vaccines and delaying authorization of the plant's production lines.
