New deadline crunch: The state legislature has until next week to carry out Senate President Matt Huffman’s last-minute plan to ask voters to let lawmakers change the deadlines for Ohio’s upcoming redistricting process. Per Andrew Tobias, Huffman wants to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot for the Aug. 3 election, the filing deadline for which is May 5. Huffman, a Republican, also said he thinks Democratic opposition would tank the plan, so he plans to not move forward with the proposed amendment if there isn’t bipartisan support.
