DOUG: NEW MEXICO GAS COMPAN WANTS YOU TO KNOW WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK THERE’S A GAS LEAK THEY SAY THEY HAVE ADDED A ROTTEN EGG OR SULFUR SMELL TO THE GAS THAT MAKES IT EASIER TO DETECT. FIRST, GET EVERYONE OUTSIDE, DO NOT LIGHT A MATCH OR CANDLE, OR USE YOUR CELL PHONE, DO NOT TURN LIGHTS, THE TELEVISION OR OTHER ELECTRONICS ON OR OFF, AND DON’T USE YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPENE AFTER EVERYONE IS OUTSIDE, GO 200 FEET FROM YOUR HOME AND CALL 911. THEN CALL THE GAS COMPANY CHECK IT. OFFICIALS SAY THE MOST FREQUENT CAUSE OF GAS LEAKS LATELY IS PEOPLE TRYING TO WORK ON THEIR METERS. >> THERE’S NO REASON FOR PROPERTY OWNER TO HAVE TO DO A WORK ON THEIR METER. IF YOU SUSPECT ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR METER, CALL US. WE’LL SEND OUR SERVICE TECHNICIANS OUT. THEY’LL TAKE CARE OF ANYTHING. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, THEY’LL MAKE IT SAFE.
