The community of Red Deer for much of its early years was a very quiet and law-abiding place. A minor exception to that peaceable demeanor came 130 years ago, in the summer of 1893, when the Red Deer Public School Board made an unpopular decision to dismiss the local school teacher, Margaret Duncan. Miss Duncan was popular amongst the community in general and the Board’s decision created quite a backlash.
