DARTMOUTH — When Laney Matteson was three years old, her great-grandmother passed away. Laney and eight other great-granchildren in the family were each given $1,000 on the condition that they use it when they were old enough to understand the value of it.
Laney, now 10, used her money to buy toys.
But not for herself.
"Some kids don't have toys for Christmas and it's not fun when you don't have toys," Laney said outside the Toys for Tots drop off location at USA Wealth Group on Faunce Corner Road on Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm so proud of her," said Ryan Matteson, Laney's dad. His grandfather was a Marine and when Laney had the idea of buying toys for children in need, they talked it through and came up with the Toys For Tots program operated by the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
