Members of the Persatuan Penduduk Apartment Lok Kawi Heights held a peaceful gathering on Saturday to demand that the apartment’s management address many problems they are currently facing.
Its Chairman Farid Wong claimed that despite frequent complaints, the management seemed to pay no attention to their plight.
“We are worried about our safety,” he said, pointing to lack of security personnel manning the guard huts. Additionally, there are stray dogs that bark and chase neighbourhood children and residents. These strays also attacked cats.
“We also have monkeys invading our apartment complex; they enter our homes from somewhere in the forest, ruin our flower pots, and take our food via the windows. When will this stop? Farid claimed a request to the management for a meeting to address the problems was also ignored.
“The management’s sole explanation is that they are not in the office,” he said.
One resident, Shariff Ahmad, claimed that in addition to security concerns, residents also experience poor road maintenance, which he attributed to the ongoing development of nearby Seri Sutera.
“Seri Sutera is a joint venture project with the Sabah Urban Development Corporation and its construction entail heavy machinery plying our residential roads, using facilities paid for by residents through maintenance fees. Who is in charge of repairing the roads that are damaged? Residents now have to park on the road shoulder because two parking spaces have also been levelled and turned into the access points to Seri Kayangan and Seri Maya.
“What will take place once Seri Sutera is completed? Where will the parking lot be if there are more cars? Will there be a need to remove the existing sepak takraw court to make room for parking? Where will our children play?
“In regards to our residential financial statements, which we have not received until today since 2016, we have also complained to the authorities,” he said.
“We staged a peaceful gathering not to incite unrest, but for the management to accept responsibility and come up with a solution. The management chooses to disregard our complaints, but they are fast to act when it comes to turning off our water supply if we are late with monthly management fees. Where is the justice?” he asked
