Cyclone hits Australia bringing 'record-breaking' wind speeds

SYDNEY, Australia -- A severe tropical cyclone lashed northwestern Australia Friday bringing the strongest winds the country has ever recorded, but officials said towns and cities appeared to have escaped the worst of the storm.
