News just like it doesnt exist. It really tells you what john the democrats are going to try to use this as a wedge issue while the republicans try to use benghazi as their wedge issue. I suspect both topics may go away as of november 7th. Hopefully not. I think that the president did a fantastic job last night on jay leno saying that he basically said that male politicians should not be making decisions for women. Thats what a lot of women feel. John such a pleasure to have you both here. Does Colin Powells endorsement mean anything . Not as much as it did in 2008. He used to be the war hero when he was with bush. Now he endorses obama. It is all colin powell. I think if he endorsed romney, that would be a big irstory bigger story. John i think youre right. Tina depue and eric boehlert, two of the smartest people i know. Thank you both so much for your time tonight. A programming note, governor Eliot Spitzer will be back tomorrow live from l. A. Where hes also appearing on real time with bill maher. Catch him tomorrow night at 10 00 p. M. Eastern on hbo. Coming up tonight the romneys found another investment that could be good for their future. Voting machines. Will their new model come with a fouryear warranty . Thats ahead. And now to my point. That is a whole bunch of bunk the powerful my steal an election but they cannot steal democracy. I look at her, and i just want to give her everything. Yeah you you know, everything can cost upwards of. [ whistles ] i did not want to think about that. Relax, relax, relax. Look at me, look at me. Theyll wa wa wait a minute. Bobby . Bobby what are you doing, man . Im speed dating [ male announcer ] get investing advice for your family at etrade. John if governor mitt romney wins the presidency next month, he will take the office in early 2013. A year which happens to be the 40th anniversary of roe v. Wade and that is our number of the day 40. Same age as eminem. Governor romney has said he wants to repeal roe v. Wade but he supports case but still wants to repeal it. It would be like repealing obamacare but keeping the parts you like. The g. O. P. Is turning up the heat hoping to sway women voters. Many polls as we discussed indicate it hasnt quite worked. Governor romney has become fond of saying women care more about employment than roe v. Wade, an elegant way of saying arent you ladies desperate enough to give up rights for a job . Whats more important . Reproductive freedoms or making 77 of what a guy makes. Whether youre for or against abortion rights, if youre younger than 50, youve got one thing in common. You most likely have no memory of what life was like before rowe. My mom is in her 70s none, a former nun and ive heard her talking with her nurse friends about this issue. None of them like abortion but they remember what it was like to work in Emergency Rooms before the law and thats why so many support the law. So i would ask everyone who is planning on voting for governor romney, wherever you stand on roe v. Wade, once he paves the way for repeal of roe and criminalizes roe ask yourself who deserves a longer jail sentence . The woman who terminates other pregnancy or the doctor who performs the procedure because that is what youre the one time its okay for you to miss my show is if thats the only time you can get to a polling place. Make sure that voting is your highest priority on election day. Besides, you can always dvr my show. You really cant dvr the future of the country. To help you make informed decisions, watch current tvs politically direct lineup. Only on current tv. So vote and vote smart. John welcome back. In 2003, the diebold Security Corporation which created electronic voting terminals faced a lot of controversy when ceo walden odell revealed he had been a top fundraiser for george w. Bush the guy who owned the Voting Machines. The controversy got worse in 2004 following the death of Pope John Paul ii when it was revealed for the first time the vatican cardinals had voted for the new pope using only diebold machines and somehow george w. Bush won. Not really but in this election, it is another voting machine manufacturer with a money trail leading to the Romney Family thats raising quite a few electoral eyebrows. They will be used in crucial counties. Hart is owned in large part by a private equity firm hig capital. It just so happens that four hig executives are bigtime fundraisers for the Romney Campaign and wait for it. Hig members occupy three of harts five Corporate Board seats. One is solamere started by tagg romney. Joining me now is rick ungar who wrote all about the sorted details in a recently published oped piece aptly titled Romney Family investment ties to Voting Machine Company that could decide the election causing concern. Rick congratulations on a very succinct title for your piece. It sounded so complicated now im lost. John could you find a way to fit more words in . The trick is to get to the edge of what you can tweet. John 120 characters. I just made it. John it is a fascinating piece. A lot of our liberal friends say tagg romney owns the machines that will be used to rig the election. Thats an overstatement. John i think a lot of friends on the left have jumped the gun. Lay this out for us. The issue the real issue here is an ethics issue. The real question we should be asking is should people who manufacture Voting Machines, who own companies that manufacture Voting Machines, should they be giving money to anybody when i say anybody forget president s. Im talking about somebody running for county dogcatcher. Anybody whose name is going to show up on that machine should they really be giving money . You and i do something where were not supposed to make political contributions because of the nature of the work that we do. I get that. I trade that when i decide to be a journalist. John yeah. Is it really asking too much of somebody who owns Voting Machines to maybe avoid the political contributions or if youre the chairman of hig who is very involved in bundling, if you want to be a politician, you know what, there are a lot of things you can invest in. Maybe Voting Machines isnt your thing. John right. It does seem like the sith doesnt designing light savers for the jeddi. Dick cheney left halliburton and was given 32 million. Could have given it back. Didnt. Got into the white house. Pretty much had private meetings that no one was allowed into. What i really like is the way you led this in because people are not focusing very much on what happened in 2004 with diebold. Listen again nobodys ever proven that anything happened. You know what we do know . We know that we dont know if it was on purpose or accidental. John in 2004 . In 2004. John things went wrong with Voting Machines in 2004. It is provable. What we dont know is if it was intentional or not. When we dont know, i will always say were going to assume it was not intentional. But you know what . When the ceo of the company im going to do everything i can can it is perception. John youre talking about walden odell of diebold who said do whatever you can to get this guy elected. These guys here, i i like that. It was nicely done. John it is very confusing. Ive heard so much disinformation about this. The greatest message we can give our friends watching is mitt romney asson tagg, doesnt own the machines. He wont be rigging them himself solamere has investments in hig. As it happens this needs to be clear, the investments that they have are not in the specific fund that does own the machines. The problem is not so much that investments. The problem to me, the ethical problem again is that the chairman of hig is a huge bunder will for the Romney Campaign. Hig itself when you aggregate all of the contributions by their employees the 11th largest contributor to the Romney Campaign. Now, i would be saying this if the name were obama instead of romney. It is not about romney. John a lot of people would be saying this if it was obama. One very fun game you can play, you folks at home can do this, too. I go up to rye might ring friends to say are you upset to know that barack and Michelle Obamas nephew owns some of the Voting Machines used in the swing states. Did i say obama . I meant romneys son. Are you upset about that . Try it at home. It is fun. It speaks of the fact that even if theres no Core United States here corruption here, it is indisputable that we have the appearance of impropriety. I hope everything goes swimmingly in ohio. I hope the Voting Machines work perfectly and they very well may. The problem is if they dont, we all know that Voting Machines have a funny way of not working as well as we would like them to. If they dont and if ohio turns out to be a close contest, how does this look . I mean you see whats coming. You see whats coming. And it is that perception. It is the appearance of impropriety thats completely unnecessary and shouldnt be a part of the system. John something howard dean pointed out back in 2004, how would we know if something went wrong . Actually, sometimes we do know when things go wrong. We knew in 2004. John we did but that was an electronic touch screen machine. It was. John your piece got a bit of controversy. Only a second left. You were contacted by i was. John by an employee of hig and an employee of hart who happened to be the same guy. And the press secretary for governor romney. John they all wrote to you. What was their response . They werent very happy in all cases. Actually, it was interesting. The original response from the Governors Campaign was huge. But when it was all over, i was asked to include one line. John okay. I guess it wasnt as huge as they thought it was. John i hope everyone checks out your piece on forbes. Com. Rick ungar, always a pleasure to speak with you. See you next time. Mormon feminists for obama are in fact joining us later in the show. But first donald trump abig bombshell was a big bomb. Big. First, joe biden soothes a crying baby, president obama responds to a crying baby named trump and bill oreilly provides a timetable for mitt romney turning this economy arounund all by himself. When it doesnt fit anywhere else, the spitzer crew puts it in the viewfinder. I guess donald trump made his bombshell announcement. Remember hes been saying this is going to change the whole course of everything. Everyone was tuned in wanting to hear what donald trump had to say. Turned out to be nothing but a silly little publicity stunt and i said to myself, hey thats not the donald trump i know. I believe we have the footage of the announcement of making it yeah, wait a second. You know what . Im sorry. Im sorry. [ laughter ] that wasnt donald trump essentially trying to publicly extort the president of the united states. That was a gorilla eating its own [ bleep ] whats this thing with trump and you . Well now unmove and undo the applause. These guy have become so tied to special interest look, i dont blame that baby for crying. [ laughter ] you know what . She just realized what it means if romney gets elected. Lets say mitt romney is elected. We have thank god our prayers are answered and a president named mitt. How soon thereafter do we see the economy improve . I dont know. Maybe 45 years later . John a candidate you havent met talks about some issues you havent heard. Dr. Jill stein the where you dont back down from a challenge. This is the age of knowing how to make things happen. So, why let erectile dysfunction get in your way . Talk to your doctor about viagra. 20 million men already have. Ask your doctor if your heart is healthy enough for sex. Do not take viagra if you take nitrates for chest pain; it may cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Side effects include headache, flushing upset stomach, and abnormal vision. To avoid longterm injury, seek immediate medical help for an erection lasting more than four hours. Stop taking viagra and call your doctor right away if you experience a sudden decrease or loss in vision or hearing. This is the age of taking action. Viagra. Talk to your doctor. And now to my point. That is a whole bunch of bunk the powerful my steal an election but they cannot steal democracy. John heres a cool fact every american should know. Our first third Party President s got into the white house with only 38 of the vote. He was a republican. And he was named lincoln. This may come as a shock but president obama and governor romney are not the only two guys running for president this year. On tuesday in chicago the Free Election Foundation held a really fascinating and highly entertaining debate for all four of the Major Third Party candidates who werent allowed to participate in the president ial debates. Unless you watch a lot of al jazeera and cspan, you likely missed it. The media covered this like the opening of a Vegan Restaurant in alabama, thats part of the problem. It was moderated by larry king who voted for lincoln. The debate featured dr. Jill stein of the Green Party ConstitutionParty Candidate virgil good and rocky anderson. While the debate did focus on the economy, they also touched on issues president obama and mitt romney would never touch. Such as the Drug War Campaign finance reform and the u. S. Government spying on its own citizens. It is a pleasure to be joined now on the show by dr. Jill stein who is running for president as a member of the green party. Good evening dr. Stein. Thank you so much for your time tonight. It is great to be with you john. John great to have you. When i was watching all of the president ial debates this year including the Republican Party one of my drinking game words was ndaa. I had to drive everyone else home. It was interesting watching the debate where i think so many on the left and the right saw the issues being discussed that have been ignored by the two party debates. Was it fun for you to be a part of that venue . Absolutely. These are the issues that the American People are really clamoring to talk about. And our campaign since were not a a corporate sponsor big money wall street sponsored campaign, we have the liberty to actually speak to those issues. And it was very exciting to be talking about how we are going to create jobs. Stop the offshoring that continues not only with mitt romneys bain capital but which is enabled by the freetrade agreements that barack obama has expanded to. Talk about the ongoing wall street bailouts which continue to the tune of 40 billion every month were spending to bail out wall street for the fourth time. As if the other three times have done us any good. Theyre still too big to fail and too big to jail. Writing their own ticket in congress. It was wonderful to be able to really get the record straight on whats happened under democrats as well as republicans. Democrats have basically embraced the policies of george bush on issue after issue and to be able to set the record straight and also lay out how we fix it. A Green New Deal to create 25 million jobs. Jump start the Green Economy that can put a halt to Climate Change and make wars for oil obsolete which is wonderful to be able to put that on the table and hear how incredibly exciting excited people were to actually hear their solution. But theyre already advocating for but that mitt romney and barack obama wont even mention. John you make a lot of terrific points. A lot of very fair points as well. I used the word fun before because i was most struck by the energy in the room. How excited the people in that room were to be taking part in the event that was really all about democracy. Why did you run for president this year . You know, ive been active for about 20 years as a mother and a medical doctor, what got me going was watching this epidemic of disease settle in on our younger generation. Everything from obesity and diabetes to skyrocketing rates of asthma and cancer and learning disabilities and the list goes on. And i didnt feel so great sitting there in the clinic handing out pills and medical procedures and sending people back out to the things that are making us sick to start with. Everything from air pollution to poverty to a fixed food system. I began to work on the solutions. I was just you know, horrified to see that our elected officials were not interested in saving jobs, saving money saving the environment and saving lives. You know, they were really interested in staying the course and getting their campaign contributions. Thats what forced me into politics. Im not a Political Animal by nature. I came to it very late in life. What got me to run in this race was hearing the president a year ago, a year ago last august when the debt ceiling crisis was hitting, that the president actually put medicare and Social Security and medicaid on the chopping block as a way to solve this crisis. And for me, that was an absolute breaking point. And i said well thank god we have an independent noncorporate Political Party that can challenge that. And i became involved for the first time at the national level. Ive always been a local activist local and state level but i went to my First NationalGreen Party Meeting at that point to ensure that we would not let this outrage of dismantling medicare and Social Security go unchallenged. You know what happens when you join a recruiting committee sometimes you get recruited. The rest is where we are today. John im glad you mentioned nutrition because while we all admire what the president and his wife have done to encourage kids to exercise, pretty much no one one in d. C. Politics that americans eat food that isnt really food. It underscores a point. A lot of folks who dont know better think the green party is about Environmental Issues but really it is about everything, isnt it . It really is. And i think you know, the thing about green is that we see how things are connected. And in fact, we got two crises right now. One is a crisis with our economy and the other crisis is the crisis in climate. And theyre both kind of crashing around us. We are not recovering in spite of the president s cheerleading it is a recovery for wall street basically. It is a recovery for ceos but for everyday people, our jobs continue to go overseas and wages continue to decline. It is not a recovery. We need to actually create jobs. Not just provide tax breaks for the job creators to ship our jobs over to china and create jobs over there. We need jobs now and we know how to do that. During the great depression. We had a new deal which actually created some four million jobs in the first two months so we know how to do this. We can put people back to work. And were calling for a Green New Deal which actually puts 25 million jobs on the table which jump starts the Green Economy and that effectively puts a halt to Climate Change and makes wars for oil obsolete. This is a winwin. John really quick doctor, im sorry. Were almost out of town. I respect the green party and all you do. Im a big fan of runoff elections and allowing third parties to be in debates. Let me give you the question that im sure you get asked all the time, how do you feel if people go to vote for you in a swing state and it leads to romney being elected in this country. Ive lived under governor romney. It was hard to distinguish him from the progressive governor who followed him. In fact, his politics that tells us we dont dare stand up for the jobs we need for healthcare, for medicare for all, for bailing out the students and not the banks and making Public Higher Education free, these are all things that are within our reach right now. They use the politics of fear to try to keep us trapped but the reality is that politics of fear has actually delivered everything we were afraid of. All of the reasons people are told you dont dare stand up because you dont want a president who will expand the war. Who will increase the wall street bailout. Who will send your jobs overseas. Who will attack our civil liberties. Who will attack immigrant rights. Weve gotten all of that, you know. All of it. By the droves. Because weve allowed ourselves to be silenced. In fact, the solution here is not the politics of fear. It is the politics of courage. That is what has always led us forward. Were the ones weve been waiting for. You can go to the polls and actually make a difference if you vote for more of the same, that is the definition of throwing away your vote. Because neither barack obama nor mitt romney has a single exit strategy to get us out of this crisis that were facing. In fact, you can use your vote to drive these Critical Solutions forward. If we win the white house and turn it into a green house, it is a great day but just so we can win the day by moving the solutions forward. Every vote for me is a vote that will drive us toward the solutions we need. John dr. Jill stein, thank you so much. President ial candidate from the green party. I appreciate your time. It is a pleasure to meet you. Thank you. Great to be with you john. Thank you. John how wide is the gender gap against the Natural Energy of peanuts and delicious, soft caramel. To fill you up and keep you moving, whatever your moves. Payday. Fill up and go john here is a new campaign angle. Both candidates are satan. If you think that sounds crazy more than 1. 4 million americans would vo John Fugelsang sees what happens. You know, blaming this economy on barack obama is kinda like blaming your hangover on the guy making breakfast. I like mitt romney but im sorry. They guy has flipped more than a crack house mattress. This campaign has become so toxic, Beverly Hills housewives are now injecting it into their foreheads. vo so current gave him a weekly show. I love romneys debate style, but i tell you, if i could be that stiff for 90 minutes, id. vo we probably wont regret it. John 1. 4 million. Thats how many registered voters liveprayer. Com found that bill keller claims have signed his online pledge who considers both candidates satanic and vote for jesus. At voting for jesus. Com bill spells it out for anyone who has trouble spelling. President obama has proven by his words and deeds to be a true enemy of god as detailed in james 4 4. He has been the most pro death president in history. Hes a staunch advocate of the radical home me sexual agenda and he has been a great friend to the enemies of israel. James 4 4 for who have a bible anyone who is a friend of the world is also an enemy of god. Seven lines later just so you know, he commands christians not to speak evil of others. Ims guessing he stopped reading by then. Governor romney has it worse with these guys. Mitt romney is a fifth generation member and a priest in the satanically inspired mormon cult. If he is elected, he will be the fulfillment of his cults pedophile, racist, con artist murdering founder Joseph Smiths white horse prophecy that romney and all mormons believe. I know what youre thinking. Why didnt obama say that during the first debate . It is worth pointing out that the web site spells the plural of mormons mormons because apparently punctuation is an abomination as well. The site that features links to donate money to bill keller encourages everyone to write in the name of jesus on their president ial ballot. I, for one seriously crew, could not agree more because what right wing bible belt fundamentalist wouldnt want to vote for jesus. He never spoke english was totally antideath penalty antiwealth, antifamily antipublic prayer. Thats matthew 6 5 but never once antigay, he never mentioned abortion, never fought for tax cuts for the wealthiest nazarenes, he was a long haired, brown skinned progressive activist mideastern jew. And this is why if jesus ever does come back, it will be tough to hear his message of love and compassion over the screams of his followers and now to my point. That is a whole bunch of bunk the powerful my steal an election but they cannot steal democracy. [ voice of dennis ]. Safe driving bonus check . For one that may seem strange at first but actually is not strange at all i give you mormon feminists for obama. Joining us now are emily curtis and Aimee Hickman coeditors of the feminist magazine exponent two. Thank you for joining us tonight. Thanks for having us. John thanks for being had. Aimee, as a mormon feminist, what is it that compels you to vote against governor romney who could be the first member of your faith to reach the white house . Well, as a feminist, i share the sentiments of most american feminists who dont see romney as a person who supports policies that are in our best interest. He doesnt support we cant trust his opinion on abortion. And we cant trust what he said about things like equal pay for equal work. Binders full of women comments i think really resonated with a lot of mormon feminists who heard in his statement something that comes from within our own culture. A kind of paternalistic partriarchal tone that is uncomfortable. It is something that were actively fighting against. So in those moments when he reveals that part of himself i think people are right to distrust him. So i those two sides of me distrust him. The feminist side but also the mormon side who wants to see Something Better for us. John a lot of us didnt mind the binders full of women story. We minded it when we found out it was completely made up. Emily, what are the churchs views on womens issue . The mormon children is evolving from lgbt issues to social issues as well. I think it is. The standard response if you go on to the churchs web site, youll see the churchs stance on abortion is actually more progressive than what romney is now stating. And so you see that hes not quite influenced by the church there. Also with immigration reform. I think the church can be quite progressive in what it has come out to say about immigration. John what do people say when you tell them youre supporting barack obama. Because i think theres a nationwide stereotype as the Mormon Church of being this monolithically conservative institution that keeps women in long skirts and in reality, i think in many ways you guys are doing more to destroy the slurring image of mormonism as a cult than governor romney is. When you go around to your friends and parishioners, what do people say when they find out who youre voting for . Well, honestly, a lot of people in our faith are glad that were doing this because they dont want to be seen as a monolithic religion. Mormonism has a long history of mormon women who are powerful and speak their mind. They were early suf Randy Johnson selfrajs. This is the tradition weve inherited from our former mormon feminist matriarchs really. What we hear from a lot of people is, you know, there are many different wrays to interpret the gospel. There are certainly a strand that you can take to a conservative place. But there is a very Progressive Side of mormonism which teaches that you cannot be equal in spiritual things unless youre equal in temporal things. Those sorts of social justice aspects of mormonism are absolutely there and we have a viewpoint that other mormons have to accept. It is part of their own doctrine. John right on. One of the criticisms we hear of the church is that black men werent allowed to hold the priesthood until 1978. As a catholic, i get hung up on the fact that women still cant hold the priesthood and no one thinks to call the faiths sexist for this institutionalized bias. Is that something you guys are working on your own to change from within the church . I think so. I think by taking baby steps in working within the church to help create greater leadership roles for women which i think on a local level we see a lot. We see women being not relating to the priesthood because we dont have the priesthood but in certain leadership callings, i see men more willing to listen to womens voice at a local level. We havent seen so much change in a larger level except for the recent change in the age of women when theyre allowed to serve missions. Before, it was 21. Mormon men were allowed to serve at 19. Just a few weeks ago, that was changed. Now they can serve at mormon women can serve at age 19 which i think will have a lot of great ramifications where before, the implicit message was prepare for marriage if youre not married by 21. You can go on this mission and now i think most mormons would say maybe not getting married at 19 and suddenly serving a mission becomes a more actual part of the womens program. John the Salt Lake City tribune endorsed president obama over governor romney. I wasnt surprised. The Salt Lake Tribune has a history of being progressive. But i was really glad to see it happen as well. It is a good reminder from people in and outside of utah that those voices exist. John it seems like your church really is evolving. I made everyone earlier to lgbt issues. A lot of my mormon friends talk quite a bit. Ive seen postings about mormons for greater lgbt acceptance and equality. Does this inspire you guys or are you more on the feminist side of your activism . You know, we recently did an issue on Lgbt Community who are also mormon, in our paper. And i think it really feminism and lgbt rights go hand in hand. These are groups of people that need to be protected and treated well. And i think as a feminist, i have really come around with doing that, putting together that issue to see how integral it is to make sure that were protecting and giving rights to members of the Lgbt Community. John it is a pleasure to learn more about this. I could talk to you both all night, Aimee Hickman and emily curtis. How can people learn more about your publication . Visit our web site. Expoint exponent ii. Org. John thank you for changing your church from within. That is viewpoint for tonight. Eliot spitzer will be back here with you tomorrow from los angeles.
