News10NBC updated this story to correct the fact that the Pfizer vaccine is currently the only COVID-19 vaccine given emergency use authorization for people 16 and older.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo recommended Thursday high schools help get their students vaccinated.
During his COVID-19 briefing in Buffalo, Cuomo said the state is focused on getting the shot to more people ages 16-25.
"School is still in session, a high school should organize where they will take their students, 16+ to a vaccination site, put 'em on a bus," Cuomo said.
New York state recently
opened the vaccine to people 16 and up in early April, but Cuomo says the turnout needs to improve. He says he believes younger people may be either hesitant or believe they won't get serious symptoms.
