So im going say stand in the door you call him right. Stand at the door. Left leg forward. Hell be standing. As t as the jump master, were watching, were watching. Head up. When we come out of the drop zone, go and he would jump out of the plane. World war ii was a little different. The jump master would actually jump first. So thats basically how that all works. We had no idea where we were when we got the order to stand up and hook up. That came so quickly, i didnt have time to do much thinking before we were over the side and we start with the 400foot drop. Thousands of us. How do i learn all of this. My grandfather was my hero and hes still around his birthday. His 95th birthday is memorial day. So he was my hero growing up and i was at that ripe age when saving private ryan came out and band of brothers came out and i was about 14 or so and that peaked my interest and then as that went on i started to ask my grandfather questions. And we were kids that never grew up playing army, but those guys, the vets are our actual heroes and i found this group. I joined the group, and i learned so much more through the group ask what we had to offer and the gear and ten years later im still doing it, but i have no plans on quitting. Part of another group thats called world war ii airborne demonstration team. They jump at redding, and its basically a it is a round canopy, static line parachute team that highlights specifically the golden era of airborne which was world war ii. We will wear all that gear with more modern parachutes, but we wear all of that gear and well jump out for the public. There are air shows in michigan and california and stuff like that. The teams going over for the 75th anniversary of dday and ill be there, as well, but thats a separate group from this, but we do events all around eastern pennsylvania. And we do it about once a month and educate the public and encourage anybody that are interested and get involved, the closest group to you, get in contact with us and we can set you up and you have great knowledge and you get to keep the history of the vets alive and like i said, theyre our heros and just because they did and the sacrifices they made for us is why we have what we have today and honestly, its the truth. Its as simple as the answer is or how common that answer is, its damn well important. Ive had a love of history since i was in high school. Actually, tlawas there a histor teacher that i had that brought in veterans from vietnam and world war ii when i was a freshman in high school that made it very real to me. Ever since then i really enjoyed that part of history and really settled in on world war ii because its so broad. Youre learning something new all of the time. I was learning something as an expert. World war ii was so broad and so many Different Things and even such as dday, it was so intricate and so many things happened. Theres so much more to enjoy, between the vehicles and spending time on my jeep here with some friends and we work on jeeps together and work on different equipment. Thats what makes it fun, as well as sharing different stories and my favorite is talking to the vets and unfortunately, they were few and far between and that was a big part of my life and talking to vets and i had several who were very good friends and were here trying to honor their memory and keep the spirit alive because there was something about that time in American History that was just really great.
