Hi, everybody. Thanks for joining us today, it is a slow news day in the republican conference. I want to start by talking about what we focused on in our conference this morning. And that is as we are debating all the big issues that we face here day in and day out in terms of legislation, and we will hear from mrs. Granger about some of that, it is very important to us all to remember and keep in mind what is at stake in this election. What is at stake, what america would look like under biden, pelosi, schumer regime. Biden and pelosi and schumer if we are successful in keeping the senate, which we must be, would ensure that the United States is not able to recover from covid for decades. We would see increase taxes, new red tape, we have seen efforts already to kill medical innovation, to expand Government Authority over every aspect of our lives, to expand Government Programs had that have been put in place for the emergency of covid, far beyond the emergency. Well see taxpayer funding for health care for illegal immigrants, we would see taxpayer funding for abortion, we would see efforts and probably success and defunding the police. The elimination of the second rights. We would see a situation where the fossil fuels would be significantly curtailed, we would probably see the end of the filibuster in the senate, we would see efforts to make d. C. Estate. We would see the expense of the Supreme Court and packet with liberal judges. How much worse off this nation would be under biden, pelosi, schumer regime. It is reporting to remember that biden is in his basement. He is in his basement be early because he is concerned about his ability to make it through an interview. But also because he doesnt want to talk with a socialist agenda. We have seen consistently over the course of the last several months, since he secured the nomination, that he is put together task forces that are coach heard with Bernie Sanders officials. People who are tied to Bernie Sanders. That is never been happened before. Well that is going on, while you have socialist policies that the Vice President will one day say he doesnt agree with and the next he will say he does, youve seen Real Progress from the republicans and from President Trump on key issues. Like Holding China accountable, making historic progress on operation warp speed, all of the debates and discussions and challenges we are facing around the pandemic and economic devastation required that we develop and manufacture and distribute vaccines. That is happening at a historic rate under operation warp speed. You are also seeing a stand up for american freedoms, the security of our communities, defending the nighted states, defending law forsman. Fighting for real relief to get america growing again. These are all fundamentally important as we move towards the future. As we look towards what it will take to ensure that the republicans get the majority back in the house and keep the majority in the senate and that trump will be reelected. With that, i will turn things over to the republican leader of the appropriations committee, mrs. Granger. Thank you for letting us present today. I have four Appropriations Bills that will be considered on thursday and friday of this week. Agriculture, state and foreign operations, interior and environments and military construction. I have serious concerns about all four of those and i will be voting no. We made an agreement, democrats and republicans, less than a year ago we set budget camps into law and agreed to no poison pills. The democrats are walking away from that agreement which is very serious. Firstly the agreement we had on caps and the bill that was being presented has emergency funding of 37 and a half billion dollars above the caps. The using the emergency funds for funds that were not agreed upon, some of them poison pills, that is the second problem that we have. We also agreed to no poison pills, that means we will Work Together instead of having something that we have to say no to. Poison pills that are in the bill harm national security, stop the law on the southern border, prevent the president to responding to an emergency by transferring funds. That is very dangerous situation. The reverse is efforts to protect life, to allow for an organization to get funds. Even though they perform abortions and fund United Nations population fund, even though that Group Supports coercive abortions, something we agreed would not be in the bills. They threaten energy independence, limiting Domestic Energy hand under funds to request for energy development. It directs agencies like the epa to overstep and stops reforms, removes provisions to enhance transparency at the un. We need bills that avoid controversial policies, this is the only way to get this bill through the house and senate and signed into law. We discuss this at every meaning that we have. These bills were presented to us with little to no input from republicans, it was top down all the way. I yield to steve. Thank you, okay. I appreciate your leadership on the House Appropriations committee. Trying to stand up for the ability of the president to keep a safe. If you look at that appropriations that nancy pelosi is bringing to the floor, it follows a pattern, go it alone, my way or the highway approach. She brings partisan bills to the floor, breaking agreements to work with both sides and continuing to limit the president s ability to keep americans safe. It boggles the minds. I will reference the no ban acts, that will be on the floor this week. Think about this, we are in the middle of a global pandemic. One of his first acts was to stop flights from coming into china when we found out china was lying and corrupted the world health organization. That it wasnt spread by human contact, that it wasnt as big of a deal, this while they are hoarding ppe. When you think about that president said were going a strap flights. That saved lives in america. Probably thousands of lies. This he took a decisive action. And he was criticized by joe biden and nancy pelosi but everyone understands that kept us safe. They are bringing a bill to the floor that will block the president s ability to take that kind of decisive action, bypassing the no ban act. This is something that would undermine our national security. It would make us less safe. Thats the pelosi wants to go my way or the highway as opposed to working with republicans, people on both sides, to tackle the problems that our country faces. That brings us to another issue, that is as we work to safely reopen, safely help people get back to their way of life, you have this healthy debate across the country about schools. Should schools reopen . I was with Vice President pence and his Coronavirus Task force where we had a roundtable, and we talked about how to safely reopen schools. They were already planning to reopen our schools. All the Southern University campuses, all louisiana this will be reopened with students in the classroom using all the safety protocols. We need to do this in k through 12. Our children, there are over 50 million children who are counting on us to get this right. It would be a cop out to say it is too difficult to do. They said it was too difficult to put a man on the moon, and they knew could be done and they went and got it done. Look at how much better america is because we rose to that challenge. There are very strong gaetz to how to reopen schools. It is not a question to whether or not you can reopen, the gallant lines are there to for how to do it. The question is do we have the will to do the work. We owe it to those 50 million plus children across this country who are counting on us to get this to get it right. Counting on local governments and school systems. In this report they talk about a goal of having students physically present. The importance of in Person Learning is well documented. They go on to go on to talk about the dangers of length and time away from school, this results in so many problems to children. All that needs to be part of the discussion, we owe it to her children to safely reopen schools. There is money still out there. There is 150 billion dollars that congress spent, before anyone talks about that there is still money out there. That money can be spent to help schools safely reopen. Whether it is buying sanitizer, ppe, masks and other equipment. All that is available, but dont let anyone tell you its a tradeoff to safely reopen. You absolutely can, Smart Medical people including the American Academy of pediatrics, everyone is very clear about how you can safely do it. All of our schools need to meet that challenge. If there has never been a stronger argument for school tries, it is this debate right now. There are some that dont want to safely reopen but still want to take the hardearned taxpayer dollars of families across america. There are schools that are willing to safely reopen, shouldnt the money follow the child. If a parent wants to send their children to a school, that is going to safely reopen instead of one that will not safely reopen, that should be part of the debate. It can be done, it has to be done. These are the debates that we should be having and working through these issues. Not on a speaker pelosi, my way or the highway approach. But people coming together looking to get results. With that, i would like to introduce our leader, kevin mccarthy. Thank you, steve. This country has preserved through a great depression, silver, two world wars and a major terrorist attack. We as American People have come overcome challenges. Our great is what makes or come country so unique. This virus will be no different. We will continue to adapt, overcome and defeat it and build the greatest economy of our lifetime. Americas looking to the teams to let that happen. Our Congressional Republicans are united along with this president and his administration. We are committed, to refocus renewing, restoring and rebuilding this economy. For anyone who questions this Administration Response to the virus, lets talk about the facts. 46. 5 million tests conducted for so far. 4. 7 million in the last week. Occupation war has developed 14 vaccine candidates that are promising. We are on track to develop a vaccine faster than ever before in the history of the world. 141 Clinical Trials are already underway for therapies. The as we debate the next coronavirus package, this team has set up targeted relief. People wondered, what should be in the next package. There should be tax incentives, safe to work checks, credit for small businesses, back to work bonuses to help incentivize our workforce and create stability, liability protection, no one wants to see the trial lawyers stopping our small businesses, schools opening back up. We think this is important for all of the country. I know democrats are having a hard time standing against the trial lawyers just as they did when we needed more masks, we had to wait for a second covid bill to help deliver more mass to the public. We hope we dont have to wait to deliver ppe to schools. Childcare relief, we need safe reliable childcare. The question should not be if it should be how schools and child hair should open. It should protect the students, protect the teachers and it is not one size fits all. In areas that it can, yes they should and they should have the protection. That means, members should be here working. Members should not be sitting on a boat in arizona and calling in their votes. They should be having debates, we should be having ideas, discussions. We may disagree but lets make the very best idea move forward. That is very difficult if youre sitting on a boat in arizona when it committee is Going Forward and you just put on your your iphone in a moment of a time to vote. Im not sure youre participating, but youre still getting your paycheck, i think that is wrong. One of the greatest threats is china. Democrats have a serious problem when it comes to chinas communist party. They are unwilling to hold him accountable. As many of you know, i work more than a year to get a bipartisan committee, long before covid ever arose. Before the Chinese Communist party right to the entire world. What could set the strategy for america for the next century . It took me eight months to get degradement from the democrats and when we are about to announce they backed away. Covid is now come onstage and wouldve killed thousands of americans and thousands across the world, but the democrats refused to bring anything about it. The senate has passed bills Holding China accountable, for other things theyve done to our country, for some reason those bills get stuck on the speakers desk. I am not sure what the communist party has on the democrats, but for some reason it seems to be very powerful because they are very silent. Will they still be silent . Today i introduced a bill to defend Covid Research from hackers. So far we have learned that iran, russia and china have been trying to hack into our companies. Instead of working with us, to solve a virus they created, they want to hacking and find the vaccine. With the use the vaccine if theyre able to hack into it if the same way they use ppe . Blackmailing other countries . Or would they be like america, that would share it with the rest of the world . Lo and behold potentially find . Today we learned that there are more chinese hackers could all that does the slow down the research. The democrats will day once again be afraid to hold china accountable . How many more people are gonna have to die before the democrats realize that we need to work as one . That this goes beyond covid with the chinese . That America Needs one strategy to make sure our children can compete in the next century. Seems as though china does not want a level playing field. There are more than willing to stirrup their own flights within their country, lying to their own citizens and the rest of the world, the democrat should stop lying to america and hold china council. Those bills that sit on the speakers desk for months should be able to move forward. We should hold china accountable. We should build america stronger and bigger than ever before. So we can compete for the next century. With that, i will take your questions. I mean i knew that. I was just wondering, do you think the nation still needs doctor faucis expertise . Absolutely. I think you have seen that the president believes that as well. Doctor fauci is an active participant and he is somebody that ive known for many years and is contributing in ways that few others i can think of, but particularly from the perspective of public health, to the nation. At this moment, we are trying to find everywhere we can to defeat the virus, we are trying to find therapeutics and vaccines, we need all hands on deck. I cant imagine anyone better than doctor fauci to play that role. Asked to step down from your role . I take my position and leadership very seriously. I take the oath that i swore to the constitution very seriously, as i know all of us who are elected officials. I think that we have a situation in many cases where in our conference we can have a Healthy Exchange of views, unfortunately you dont see that as much as the democratic caucus. But i think these are important niche issues that we are facing in the nation. Lives are at stake. The beauty of our system and the magnificence of this country and one of the things the founders fought for and that so many have died for is our freedom of speech. That is the right for all of us have this Healthy Exchange and debate. I think about that National Defense authorization act, we are debating it, and every time that i walked onto the floor of the house, every time i count colleagues fork on floor, we remember that were there, we are able to cast or votes and have the debates we have at the issues that matter to this country. We owe it to them, acting worthy of them, doing what we believe is right. We need to do what is right for this country. That is something that i will always do and i know my colleagues will as well. I am honored to serve as a conference chair and particularly honor to serve the people of wyoming. Thanks. I just want to reemphasize, she does an amazing job. Yes, maam. A quick followup. Some of the questions that were brought to during the Conference Meeting today had to do with the primaries, and this was brought upon by thomas primary them where if you in a few others were supporting his point, but Going Forward, are we going to see Leadership Support primary opponents of members . This is something that has been of concern. And i understand that this has been boiling up a bit. Congressman massie and i had a great conversation after a meeting. And i do respect congress and the masses principles. I think it is an important thing to think through. What it means state each one of us to serve. I think that we also, congressman massie and i, and the vast majority of the colleagues, we are united. It is one of the real reasons that i feel so united. What is at stake at this election . Why it is so important for us to make sure that we keep the senate, take back the majority in the house, make sure that President Trump is reelected. Those are crucial issues. The discussions that we have reflect how high the stakes are, how grave these issues are. I think that they are important and healthy for a conference. I welcome that and i have a lot of respect for congressman massie. I understand what he did what he did. I look forward to serving with him and more republicans. Thank you sir. What if your members had a nasty confrontation with aoc, what type of behavior do you expect from your groups . I understand who you are referring to. I dont know the conversation, after this meeting that individual and i are going to meet. We think everyone should show respect to each other. Not knowing what took place, i will see how the discussion with him to see what happened. All right . About the gop convention, many members said that they are not going. Anonymous reports saying that they dont think anyone is going to be there in person. What do you expect from the convention later in august . I think it will be different convention than we had in the past, but we will take every precaution and the safety of individuals. There will be testing, safe spacing, more condensed, fewer people being allowed inside. But we will make sure that every precaution is being taken. We will deal with a daybyday. I will be. There do you think there should be more money for testing . If we need more money than we should get more money. We have put a lot of money in the last one, about 25 billion, i dont have the latest update, republicans were in the majority. We are the party that increased the funding by 40 to National Institute of health and the cdc. Yes, i would be one who would say that we need more money for testing. The most americans are saying theyd still takes up to a week to get test response back. How can we get those testing times down . One thing i will tell you that wasnt vetted during this time was rapid tests. You can get tests as fast as 45 minutes, even 15 minutes, these are new devices. We have blood tests, able to draw quicker. With all that ingenuity we will get past this. You can compare us to any other country, we are talking more than 46 million tests, no other country can do that. We want to be able to do that and expand testing but the key part here is really when we look back, when it comes to a vaccine or therapeutics to move forward, history will write about how fast it took place. We did something never done before. That was the early investment. That was operation warp speed. Because it wont the time that it takes to develop a vaccine, we are already making that investment. We have 100 million of those dosages if they come back. Next week we will have some very interesting announcements in the short time coming into the final phases, which is great. It is a great contribution to the rest of the world. I think the biggest compliment is that these countries that are trying to hack us. Even a country that created the virus. They are trying to hack into the companies that have the vaccine. I think we are being focused, we are spending trillions of dollars but if we deal more money than we have to provide it. Thats why it is very important and vital, that Congress Actually meets. It is important that members actually come to their job. I know that we watch the democrats changed 244 years of history, members no longer have to come to washington to work, they are no longer essential, over 70 democrats there. They did not show up, they signed letters and were physically unable to be here. We found them at other events. I dont think that behavior is correct. I dont think that is something that will solve this problem. Only working together as one, when congress, one nation will we be able to rise to the occasion. And that is why i believe we will get this done and whatever needs to take place we can make happen. Thank you very much, i appreciate it. Washington journal continues. Host joining us from the d. C. Bureau of abc news is jonathan karl, chief White House Correspondent for abc news. His new book, front row at the trump show. And for the last year, he served the whitesident of house correspondents association. Thanks for coming back here. We appreciate it. Guest thanks, steve. Host White House Press secretary Kaylee Machen only, you wrote the following, as a reporter of the White House Press association, i have often advocated regular briefings by the White House Press secretary, which lapsed in 2016. Canmerits of the briefings be debated, but i think the white house has obligation to answer pronouncements of the executive branch. The White House Press secretarys job differs fundamentally from those of a spokesperson, a candidate, or a political party, and the White House Press secretary serves as the president of the pleasure of the president , but their salary is paid by the taxpayers
