They called the Company Woodstock ventures and they started to look for a place for the festival. They could not wind a place in woodstock large enough. Place of farm down south. That might have worked then out of desperation they found and industrial park. It was very flat, kind of an interesting land. It had Good Transportation access. They started building and advertising. They built the stage. They had artists creating art installations and everything was going smoothly until the locals caught wind of what they were doing and it wasnt going to be a 50,000 person folk festival after all. Booked andx had been a number of nonfolk bands were booked. The town basically rewrote its laws to outlaw the festival. That left Woodstock Ventures with about four weeks to find another location. That is when they came in contact with max. Max was a dairy farmer in bethel. 90 miles northwest of new york city. One Woodstock Ventures of 1969ed him in july and asked if he had any property that might be suitable for a rock festival, when he showed them a few places of land and they came to this property which was one of his hay fields, he grew alfalfa on this hell, on this hill, Woodstock Ventures noticed that it was the perfect shape and size for the rock festival they wanted to have. Right there on the spot they made a deal with him to least his property for the rest of the month so they could move their rock festival to bethel. The rest is history. Bethel is still very much like it was in 1969. The road system has not been upgraded very much. Very rural. Is still left shortlyife after woodstock. They went to florida and soon after he died. The property went to a woman and it kept the property kept agricultural and in the mid1990s, she put the property up for sale. Set up a foundation and purchased the land. He recognized that woodstock was a big part of this regions history. Worthy of commemoration. He created Bethel Woods Center for the arts. Outdoor performance pavilion, a worldclass museum and of course, the Historic Site itself. Woods ison at bethel to inspire people through the arts. Follow at least the good examples of the 1960s.
