Congressman rick larson of washington, what is on your reading list. Whats on my reading list its not long but coming in to the middle of the summer i am working on the third iq novel by joe, a los angeles mystery writer and iq is his character and brett is the third book in the series, a detective novel, hes a private investigator and a lot of action and a lot of great relationships in the book so i am working on that, im also working on frederick douglass, biography that is published recently, im working on that to fairly long book so im popping in and out of that quite a bit in taking that into chunks, for the policy, david dollar at one of the think tanks in washington, d. C. Is an editor of a book called china 2049 and he brought together some reform chinese scholars to look at what the chinese economy might look like and what its challenges are between now and 2049 and obviously has huge implications for u. S. China policy, it is seeing a work related book, i dont read a lot of books were work i usually read for entertainment and tried to throw in a couple books about Washington State, my home state as well so on my shellfish a book by whitaker who is jim whitaker son, the First American to climb Mount Everest and its a memoir about whitaker growing up with a very famous father who was the First American to climb Mount Everest, that is on my reading list for the rest of the summer. The 2049 book, that is your district in washington that is pretty affected by trade with china isnt it. Washington state is the most trade dependent state in the country, 40 of the jobs in our state are directly tied to trade with countries all over the world but china is one of the largest partners for Washington State companies and the women and men who work at those companies, having a fairly good idea, good look into the crystal ball of the future the chinese economy has a direct impact on Washington State, the Washington State economy and the women and men who work in those jobs. Do you find yourself in Congress Sharing book ideas with your colleague . Not with all my colleagues but a few of them, im a pretty avid mystery reader and one member in particular that we trade book ideas, usually around which mystery we are reading lately which mystery series were reading lately, that is where i take my interest and share with my colleagues on reading. And you get to spend those long flights from seattle to d. C. In a book. People always ask, when you find time to read, five hours on average one way across the country and theres plenty of time to read, i only watch so many recently released movies and so many Netflix Series or other streaming services, a good book on paper, electronic version, good book on paper as a hardback or paperback, its still the way to go for me. Tell us about the Second District of washington. Other than it being a best district in the country, it hugs the sound, the San Juan Islands in the northwest corner of the district, that is the city of everett which is bellingham, the north end in this district has beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains to the west and the cascades to the east, it really is from a scenery perspective a beautiful district, it is also a district i was born and raised in in my family has been in the region for five generations so its a real great honor as well to be able to continue to represent with my family and the deep roots. As i tell folks, my family has been here longer than some and not as long as others so its always good to stay humble as well and think about serving the people in the district.
