Enjoy unanimous support on both sides except that the democratic argument appears to continue to be if we cant have everything we want we wont allow anything to pass. My members think we need to try to address this again and we will vote on the program today and the larger 500 billiondollar package tomorrow. I dont anticipate that we will get any democratic votes, but we want to make the point to the American People that Senate Republicans believe and know the package is important and we have crafted one that we think includes things that are not controversial. I am aware discussions continue between the president and the speaker about a large package. Obviously if that were to come over, we would have to consider it. We will be voting to confirm justices to be Amy Coney Barrett next monday and that will be another accomplishment in our effort to put on the court, the federal courts men and women that believe in the notion that a judge should actually follow the law. As the leader pointed out, we will have an opportunity to vote on Coronavirus Relief legislation that is targeted and fiscally responsible and addresses all of the issues both democrats and republicans said they want to have addressed whether it is unemployment insurance, loans for Small Businesses through the program, funding so the schools can open safely, additional funding for healthcare and beating this crisis that means funding for testing and therapeutics and vaccines, all things on which there is bipartisan agreement. We will have the vote again. Thats where republicans are coming from and where we have been since the beginning. What the democrats are advocating as an all or nothing approach that holds Coronavirus Relief hostage to a bunch of leftwing demands. It essentially what they are saying is if you dont move over here and give us everything we want, there is no deal. Essentially what they are saying to the American People as if you dont want to give us 2. 4 trillion, which is what the demand currently is that is the most recent score, then you will end up with 0. 0. Thats basically the democrat position. Its an all or nothing approach and again we will continue to advocate for policies that are targeted and fiscally responsible and deliver the assistance to the American People where it is needed. To the point about the Supreme Court, i think everybody got the opportunity to see she is a wonderful nominee and i was proud of all of our Judiciary Committee members in the way they handled the hearing. I think that it was great in fact even the ranking democrat senator feinstein indicated she was very impressed with the nominee and thought that the hearing was conducted in a very fair and balanced way and i agree with her on that point. This is a terrific nominee as we pointed out we are on the schedule now to confirm her early next week and we intended to do that because we all agree on the republican side we want judges, justices on the Supreme Court who are there to interpret the law and constitution not to rewrite the rules of the game. Republicans are ready to vote for urgently needed relief on the bill we are going to be taking a look at it is 500 billion, a very significant amount of money aimed at patients and workers and schoolchildren. Thats where the needs truly are. If you take a look at this its the second round of paycheck protection for Small Businesses. Its a hundred billion dollars for our children to be back in school safely. Its Unemployment Benefits for people who through no fault of their own are out of work. Its money for vaccines, additional money to develop vaccines and distribute those vaccines. Thats what the American People need, so there was an urgency and the need to act is now. If nancy pelosi were actually serious about doing the relief for the American People, she would tell her deputy Chuck Schumer to get on the bill we are bringing to the floor today. If nancy pelosi were actually serious, she would eliminate all the things in her legislation that had nothing to do with coronavirus and eliminate the plays and bills. If nancy pelosi were really serious, she would call back this house of representatives to congress to work with us on finding solutions for the American People. But nancy pelosi isnt serious. Thats because she doesnt want anything to pass. She and Chuck Schumer made a decision, a political decision that nothing is going to pass until after election day because they believe they have better chances of success if the American People are held hostage all the way through. The American People need to see clearly what is happening and i know certainly in wyoming they do see what is happening. We are going to vote today and tomorrow against something and then they are going to say they are for it. Let us be clear the democrats are acting out of selfish political reasons, not because they are trying to help the people that they claim they represent. The speaker knows how to get things done if she wants to get things done. She also knows the way isnt to say give me everything i want or i dont want anything, and not just the money that the policy. This isnt just a debate about the money which is well beyond the money that we need to do the job. More and more it is about spending it exactly they way they want to spend it. That will not produce the results. I think its incredibly unfortunate as senator barrasso said, the money in our package for the complete incredible effort we are making on vaccines, the incredible effort on testing to make sure both vaccines and tests have the money necessary to get distributed and widely used and that shouldnt wait until the middle of december. That needs to happen right now but its not the way to legislate. Nobody knows that better than the speaker. Its not the way to reach a conclusion. Its the best way you can assure you are not going to reach a conclusion which is to say give me everything i want, or i dont want anything. The Paycheck Protection Program was one of the most popular bipartisan supported programs in our package, the relief package. Im excited we will have the opportunity to vote on the Paycheck Protection Program once again and allow a second path for the Small Businesses that have been hit the hardest. In iowa, over 61,000 Small Businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program. So, im very hopeful we can come together on the floor of the senate and that democrats will join us again in one of the programs available. We need to make sure our Small Businesses are supported and that our moms and dads have an opportunity to remain employed and then to go back to work. Moving on to judge Amy Coney Barrett, i had the wonderful opportunity to sit through the hearings this past week, and judge barrett is very poised even when she was being interrupted and really pushed around by the Senate Democratic colleagues. They wouldnt allow her to answer questions. They kept interrupting. But through all of that, she held herself with an extraordinary level of grace and poise and not only that, bottom line, shes an exceptional jurors and has been commended by liberals and conservatives and academia and all across the board so we are excited about the opportunity to vote on the Supreme Court and other justice who will uphold and defend our constitution. And bottom line, that is what islands are looking for, someone who will defend our constitution. And so this thursday when its brought up for a vote, i look forward to casting my support in favor of judge Amy Coney Barrett to be our next Supreme Court justice. Evidently, speake speaker ped National Democrats believe that giving the American People during a time of great need nothing is better than giving them something. I think she misreads the opinion of the American People as she makes that judgment, but we here in the Republicancontrolled Senate will once again take a stab this week it provide weekeh needed targeted relief to the American People. We will provide them relief so that their healthcare can be assured during this time and provide relief so they can safely return to work and school. Im hopeful that we might get some bipartisan assistance but not particularly optimistic. In the meanwhile, we will continue discussions and we will continue to see if negotiations might lead to a broad breakthrough when it comes to a package and its my hope that that could happen, but i am not optimistic. Once again, nancy pelosi seems to prefer nothing over something during a time of the americas greatest need. On the positive front, the senate Judiciary Committee had an outstanding last week and the American People were able to get a front row seat as they watched Amy Coney Barrett from the great state of indiana demonstrate her knowledge of the law, demonstrated that she certainly has command of the fact that particular cases that are means of jurisprudence is infused with great integrity. Shes someone who doesnt intend to legislate from the bench but instead apply the law of the land to the facts of a given case, and along the way, the American People increasingly became supportive of her nomination and support confirmation before the election. I look forward to voting as we turn to the confirmation vote to voting in support of Amy Coney Barrett and i think we will find this is one who will be serving with great honor and distinction. Does your bill contain a another round of stimulus checks for all americans . No, it doesnt, but it does address an awful lot of things we do agree on, and i dont think the fact that the checks are not a part of the package as others have said, it is a good argument for not doing what we relayed on the floor, most of which is completely without controversy. We thought about 500 million was appropriate for this juncture. No one would argue the economy is in good shape but unemployment is about 8. 4 which is what it was in several years during the obama first term. We clearly have too many people unemployed and we do continue the plus above unemployment insurance. I just want to clarify something you said earlier. Use it if they do reach an agreement that you will consider the legislation. Does that mean bringing it to the floor . If a president ially supported bill clears the house at some point, we will bring it to the floor, yes. Has the president asked you to move forward on that . We would have to see what it was first. Theres been no deal announced. It would have to be written and people will have a chance to take a look at it and then it would have to clear the house and if all of that occurs of course we would consider it. Are you comfortable with spending that amount of money . If such a deal were to clear the house, obviously with a president ial signature promise, we would put it on the floor of the senate and let the Senate Considered it. Do you have any reaction to the tremendous amount of money flowing in [inaudible] some of the colleagues say the finance rules need to be reviewed; do you have a reaction to that . Let me give a shout out to the democrats. The lions share of the money flowing in is being sent from small donors. I can give an example in my own campaign i have over 700,000 and the average contribution is about 35. I dont think any kind of campaignfinance reform designed at producing fewer people interested is a good idea and as you know ive been at the forefront for 25 years of sending of efforts by the government to restrict Campaign Contributions because it is the only way normal citizens get to participate other than voting. The plaintiff though is they dont know where they are coming from [inaudible] because they are below 200 . I dont think anybody with less than 200 bucks would be somebody trying to. Is it appropriate to continue the way he has recently . They agree its shutting down the economy. Again, it is not a good idea and as you have heard me say repeatedly since the first of may, one thing we need to do is wear a mask, practice social distancing, try to prevent the spread. Its clear that we are having a second round, surge and the only thing each of us can do until we get a vaccine is act as responsibly as possible. Thats what i and my members are doing and the session since the first of may. [inaudible] do you have confidence in doctor fauci . [inaudible conversations] Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer called republican led efforts to pass a targeted Coronavirus Relief bill a political stunt while he spoke to reporters and outlined the priorities for Senate Democrats if another economic aid bill were to be passed. From capitol hill, this runs 20 minutes
