Post story, by and the big tech media censorship. I talk about journalism and sort of the headwinds of the conservative space in both areas but i also thought corporate america, academia and k12, college and what the direction the society is moving in and the leftward event of all of these major institutions in america and why i thinkpresident trumps policies are having an influence in pushing back against them. What we can do as conservatives and people who care about free speech and why cancel culture is destroying the country and i also for fun give an account of my time in hollywood through my little adventure with dancing with the stars so i have a little fun with that its i think a good look at where we are in society and the direction were heading in and frankly i tried to make a case especially in light of the next 20 days on why this election is important. You think and first are you not involved in the Trump Campaign number one do you think that in your two years hence since you left the press secretary officethat these things you just articulated have gotten worse in your view . I have a show on Newsmax Television every night at6 00 so i have no affiliation with the campaign obviously i am a supporter , i make no bones about but i am a host on Newsmax Television and therefore have no role in the campaign or any other entity officially supporting the president except for my own personal one and secondly theres no question about it, i think those entities have gotten worse. This idea of cancel culture, virtual signaling, trying to decide what everyone can and cant say gotten worse and it was interestingly listening to your last guest russ feingold. He has become, came to washington as this guy wanted to create a solution to the problems. Mccainfeingold was one of his issues and frankly his rhetoric now shows the part of the problem. The idea that hes in dealing a Supreme Court see theres a vacancy in a nomination is made by the president , just like president obama i think its a fair point to discuss whether or not politics is involved but welcome to washington but to say someone is stealing see when theres a vacancy and that the constitution calls for the president to make a nomination the Senate Consent on that and vote on it is hardly stealing. As the process that we have and its case in point of why i wrote this book. Because we are now using things like that to describe the process frankly was normal several years back. On the capitalism piece and the title of your book the subtitle of your book you write this, if not only capitalism, you , its also our constitution written for as long as i remember i was taught the guiding principle of the First Amendment to the u. S. Constitution was based on the concept of allowing for free expression. An exchange of ideas. I might not agree were like or agree with what someone says i would fight or their rights to express it no matter how much i disagree with. Unfortunately this understanding is stating quickly more and more our society is built into a mob mentality believes if you dont share the prevailing leftist you that you need to be canceled and pushed out to the margins of society. Hundred percent right. Think about it. When i grew up there was an issue and i spent 21 years in the military, my view was i dont think its appropriate, i think it important but at the end of the day the beauty of the First Amendment as it gives people the ability to express themselves. I dont have to agreement, i can express my displeasure about the beauty of the constitution and our country is you can do it and weve seen this through the Supreme Court hearings where judge barrett made a comment the other day about the word sexual preference suddenly liberals were going nuts and say this shows hes unfit for the office or whatever, because youre not using the words they deem appropriate and youre expressing in your way. Yet somehow now your unfit andyou should be canceled out. The interesting thing about this bill and i go further in the book to talk about it is a double standard in this. If someone on the right says something that is not deemed appropriate by the left they get canceled out, they get protested. Someone on the left does it its understood and as long as its in pursuit of the greater good and no problem, no foul and theres a big problem in america and you can say the same thing but it depends on who says it what the reaction is. The book is leading america, president trumps commitment to people, patriotism and capitalist. The author the former White House PressSecretary Sean Spicer joining us and ready for your questions and comments. 2027 48,001 if you support president trump, 202 seven 48,000 if you support no biden and Kamala Harris and all others 8002. Lets go to dancing with the stars. Chapter 2, an outsider dancing with the stars and you set it up in the beginning as saying you and your wife actually didnt even get through your wedding dance and so talk about some of the trepidations of going into it and tie it into some of the medical rollout that came after. Look, as i said we took one dance lesson over i think in glen echo down in dc and we were like okay, lets do a couple turns and cut the cake and call it a day and i have no rhythm , shes a little better than i am so i turned down the opportunity to be on the show initially leaving the whitehouse for a variety of reasons , mostly because im not really good dancer but there are a couple of others enters my schedule and commitments and then after a couple of years i thought they dont ask that many more times and i accomplished a lot of what i wanted to do in the white house. Maybehave some fun and frankly i thought it would last a couple weeks and that would be it. But i go through the instance and theres just, its funny how something as simple and easy as the show thats literally lighthearted and supposed to be a fun dancing show, became so polarizing. And i made no political comments throughout the show. I went into the show saying the opposite, that the cool thing about it is its a family show, its something you canencourage your kids to watch. Theres no real competition, you dont win some cash prize or a dancing competition contract. You go to it because its good also american fun and yet every question that my fellow contestants got was once sean white, is he talking politics, is he trying to persuade people, are you disgusted with him being on the show and im thinking is this serious, you cant even how to show where everything has to be politics. And the point i make in the book i think is so interesting is theirs so often this call on the left a lot in the media to have civil discussion and yet everything that they tried to do was to tear people apart, who were having civil discussion theres one instance in the book i talk about where i come around with another contestant on the show was avery leftleaning individual. We kind of started to have interesting conversations about life, never about politics, just about life and yet the media kept having this fascination that said its crazy that theyre talking. I think its crazy that you think its crazy, not you obviously bill or cspan but that people, plus and say i cant believe you guys are talking to eachother. And im thinking, isnt that what you can, i totally disagree with almost every policy he had. I think he felt the same way about me but we were able to talk about family and life and competition and Current Events and sports and im a dodgers fan, red sox fan and the world series is going on at the time. So it was just fascinating that there was never a moment where they would allow it not to be political despite the fact that i think my goal was to make it direct free from that and for a lot of americans thats why they tuned into a show like that. One more question, you wrote something about dancing with the Stars Community that dwt, the heavy masculinity afterwards so are you still in touch with some of those folks, you still have conversations about those things , sports and think that are nonpolitical fmr. Absolutely and in factthe only time politics ever came up once in a while. One of the cast members would pull me aside and say can i get a quick question but it was never like a Group Discussion but i stay in touch with a lot of folks on the show both contestants, some of the professional dancers and the beauty of the show and i mention this is some of the executive producers, the staff that supports it, the people who make sure the security is handled and take care of all the other logistics like publicity and crap services and provides the contestants on the team while your onset i stay in touch with a lot of folks. It really is a family that you develop being on that show. And indoors with you after you leave and it was a selling point for the show and i talk about in the book and i always thought it was a talking point and its really a reality there are people who Stay Together and stay in touch and i love being on the show and i have never really watched it before i been on it now i sit around with my kids watching the show and we cheer on all other folks of the season. We will start first with louisiana, here from malcolm, it trump supporter, good morning. Good morning mister spicer. I would like to say that i think this country has gone to pot for several years now. The left just will not let the regular people have anything to say. They just tried to shut them up. All the time. And as far as you mentioned thatundermining thing, i checked cnn and nbc last night. They were not speaking of this at all. All they were talking about was trump is having another big old rally and nobodys wearing masks. Theres no spacing and they were talking about how many people got the virus and all this kind of stuff and as far as i know all these numbers are a bunch of bull because you hear this all the time their steps, i dont know. This country is going to pot because of the fact that it is being pulled to the left by biden and his type of people and theres nothing that they will not do to try and shut up the regular real americans. Malcolm in louisiana, to sean spicer. I think youll love the book then because i walk through all of this in the different major institutions in america whether its big tech, corporate america, hollywood journalism so frankly you hit the nail on the head. Thats why i wrote the book is to create a greater understanding of the landscape of our Current Society but if i can i think this under biden story is fascinating. The New York Post its a story out there that theres no question itseems on the sourcing. This was from material recovered from an Apple Computer that was discarded and immediately other members of the media Start Talking about how it was want to discredit it, they wont use it and big tech sensors it and i thought to myself how fascinating this was because if you oppose it to a few weeks ago the New York Times illegally obtained the president s tax returns and no one had the same concerns about using the information or hacked information at that point so it was fascinating that you saw a journalist come out and almost attack and critique another realism outlet because they didnt like the story and then big tech block people from sharing the story. Kayleigh mcenany had her twitter account blocked for sharing the story. Whats going on when big tech is so afraid of the story weston mark this isnt some rightwing publication, this is the New York Post, one of americas finest publications and yet because like the story because its antibiden , it gets blocked by other Media Outlets and then gets blocked by the tech. Thats a problem. We read that New York Post story yesterday yesterday as it broke on washington journal and your point this is the recording, the headline inthe New York Times. Allegation on biden prompts pushback from social media companies, joe bidens campaign rejected assertions made in published report based on unverified materials from trump allies , facebook and tweeter twitter found the story dubious enough to limit access to it on their platforms. And bill i think the thing that fascinating is that fair enough, we should scrutinize reporting and im not a reporter area obviously reporters have to go through this but at the end of the day theres an email in that story. Email is either true or its not so their casting doubt on the entire thing but there is validity to that email or not. Theres pictures recovered as well so the question is is the email, it was a doctor and if so i understand pushback but media organizations could be applying the same scrutiny headed for the trump tax story as they are now and i think theyre immediately dismissing it out of hand and trying to tie it to potentially russian this information. If thats the case tell me why . As a journalist because it was a matter of hours they immediately dismissed the story and said they couldnt run it. I looked at that story and again, i dont know anything more than i read in the piece but the emails thatwere obtained seems to be legitimate. I dont have any reason to doubt them if theyre not true it would seem to me even before the Biden Campaign to say those emails are not accurate, heres what and group them but theyre not even doing that and the journalists are doing the bare minimum questions. The other day joe biden says when asked the question of whether or not theyre going to pass the Supreme Court, if they win will increase the size of it and add justices and he tells the reporter im not going to give you my position, ill tell you after the election because it would cause a headline. Cost headline weston mark isnt that what politicians try to do, tell you their participant position and articulate why you should vote for them and yet the medias answer was almost one of embarrassment which is ari mister biden for asking that question, will move on and not ask more negative questions of president trump. The media has become an embarrassment in terms of how they conducted themselves and part of what i write is an understanding of how these journalists are trained. They are told to pursue what they believe the greater good is, not the facts and the figures anymore what they perceive the greater good and for many the greater good is a more leftleaning country. Lets hear from a biden supporter in philadelphia, ruben. How are you doing this morning , sean, i just have a couple questions. One, the president after the president said drink lysol and bleach and to open up the cities of michigan and fire fauci and we find out from bob woodward he knew how deadly this disease was and it was airborne and he wants us to rush out, how can you still support this president for that and how can you support the senators in 2016 who said this is election year, we will not put in a Supreme Court justice, Lindsey Graham gave his word he would not even vote on this and you do not see the hypocrisy in that . Sean spicer. Guest two interesting questions, let me take the latter first. I dont disagree with you, i think those senators from a strategic standpoint made a mistake then. They shouldnt have said. The senate has a right, the president has a nominee obligation to nominate justices or fill vacancies and in the case of the senate are appropriate if there Senate Confirmed positions with a judge or anyone else in the executive branch the senate as a right and a decision to decide how tomove on that nomination. And whether or not to take it up for a final vote. I think it was a mistake for the senate to make the position they did in 2016. They should have said were from the opposite party, where making a decision. Its politics but i think the argument they made in2016 is coming back to bite them now. But frankly its a both sides thing. It was the democrats who argued you should be able to fill one in an election cycle so you sort of have both sides are doing the opposite of what they argued four years ago and this show you shows you the nature of washington. I dont think that should shock anybody but its the reality of how washington operates, you operate in the short term for whatever advances your party at that time and sometimes you have to eat crow and go the other way. I wish thatwe had a more consistent philosophy. I wish we could get back to fort of the standard on judges that they are qualified or not. Look at the number of republicans that voted for Justice Ginsburg because at the end of the day she was a qualified justice and thats the senates role to decide are they qualified, not do you agree with them and i think weve now gotten to the point in justices disintegrate where its not only qualified because there is no question amy barrett is one of the most qualified justices and jurists to ever ascend to the Supreme Court but the reality is weve now turned that qualification standard into a do you agree with me standard and weve seen the differences through the hearing which is republicans want people to adhere to the constitution, democrats want people to feel like them. They want to know do you feel a certain way, do you agree with them as opposed to what does the law say and i think thats a big difference. With respect to the president i think rubin respectfully i dont think he described it in the way that he did. I remember the press conference youre talking about. He was sort of meandering during that press briefing asking the doctors about certain ways they could ingest potential therapeutics or vaccines. I dont think it was the most well articulated thing whether that was the way you should be doing that but i think its definitely a reach to say he was telling people to ingest lysol whichis not what he said. That being said i think the president s policies moved the country forward. He kept his word. Thats the unique thing in the city, ive been in politics for 25 years. The president said he was going to move the embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem, he did. He said he was going to pull out of the paris climate agreement, he did it. He said he was really going to renew his nafta, he did it. He said he was going to renegotiate veterans care, he did. Politicians actually generally dont come up for reelection saying they did exactly what they say they did. You may not agree with the president s philosophies, i understand that but i also think the president deserves credit for keeping his word and implementing what he said as a candidate. Host lets hear from cindy, supporter of president trump. Caller good morning, thank you for having sean on. Thats my sons name too. He does. I want to say i love the president , i have supported him from the very start and i would never stop supporting him and i want to say also asked the question real quick. So today theres going to be something coming up before the congress and i want to see what you think about it but im part of this movement there trying to stop called the q movement and what we are is basically supporting the president in everything he does and also we get a lot of information to help us look up things and i think the president also often puts out things to get us to look up and find out and educate ourselves and were going to go mostly to the internet which is where we get all our information mostly so i want to know what you think about that as far as the congress and what theyre doing with that. Host sean spicer. Guest can you tell me what the movement and whats coming up in congress . Host shes off the line so i apologize for that. Question for you then on twitter. Guest i didnt get it host i didnt hear it clearly as well. A question from stu in Apache Junction arizona on cancel culture. Would you agree fauci has been a victim of cancel culture from the right . Guest sure, to some degree. As i said and bill read the quote in the book, i dont have toagree with you and i think thats the beauty of america. We have room and space for disparate voices. We dont have to agree with them and sometimes that discussion of listening to opposite voices educates us. But each of us in my case i grow up in rhode island in a small town and sometimes i hear from people who had a different experience, maybe that culturally, maybe thats economically, maybe thats geographically and i explained something i wasnt aware of the way i grew up in terms of the way they were growing up, maybe the headwinds they face or the challenges they overcame and i grow and learn as a person so sometimes hearing the other side helps you as a person. Sometimes you as a person espousing a particular view learn from people once you espoused something and someone start questioning why you said and you learn and you go wow, i didnt think about that in that context so i think the more we can Exchange Ideas and learn from them the better because there are things that in some cases offend people because of some kind of a past discrimination or something that other people might not be aware of so you learn from those experiences. You grow as aperson and it was never intentional , maybe what you said in the first place but we cant have that Free Exchange of ideas, we dont learn and grow the way we should. Host were going to have to get you back for alonger segment on tv. The new book is leading america, president trumps commitment to people, patriotism andcapitalism. Thanks for being with us this morning guest thank you phil and thank you cspan. [music]. [music]. [music]. [music]. [music]. [music]. [music]. [music]
