Hazel. Welcome. You are watching the Atlanta Press club loudermilkyoung debate series. This is the general Election Debate for candidates running for u. S. Senate to fill the seat currently held by senator david perdue. In order to ensure you once safety candidates and panelists participating from their home. The Atlanta Press club gives a special thank you to georgia public broadcasting for helping to organize the online debate. Lets meet the candidates. They are in alphabetical order libertarian shane hazel is a marine corps veteran and cohost and producer of the rebellion podcast which analyzes politics from a local to global level. Democrat jon ossoff has served as ceo of insight tw i come in Media Production company that investigates corruption and organized crime and war crimes for International News organizations. Republican david perdue has served as u. S. Senate since 2015. Before being elected to the senate he sat on the board of five major corporations and cofounded perdue partners, a Global Trading company. Now lets meet our panel. A news anchor with a radio group. Tom baxter is a reporter with supporter report. And emma is a reporter. Now lets get started. Candidates will have two seconds to answer their questions and 30 seconds to respond to rebuttal. I will hold up a piece of paper leading candidates know when they have ten seconds remaining. For a full set of rules please visit the Atlanta Press club website, Atlanta Press club. Org. To start the debate each candidate will be asked to my questions by the panel. Tom, you get the first question to shane hazel. Mr. Hazel, your Party Supports very strict limits on size of government and minimum interference in peoples lives. Take us briefly how thoroughly return government would have reacted to the coronavirus and what steps if any of it wouldve taken its spread. They have signaled out nonessential people. We have an economy that is based on production and service in the last thing we need to do is have government step in with a onesizefitsall answer for everybody and apply that to businesses that people are built with blood, sweat, and tears out of their own equity and the own risk. It is killed more than 1 million jobs in georgia and it is absolutely unconstitutional to begin with. The way we solve problems like this is what allowed the states and the people to act in the own interest. Without people to go out and exercise the right to commerce, to trade, to travel, to the right of assembly and protest we dont lock people up and we dont wave guns that people. Thank you very much. Very quickly, just a point of admit, i cant see you with the ten seconds. Okay. Then i will say ten seconds. Thanks for letting me know. Raul, please ask a question to senator perdue. I want to begin with education. During the summer governor cant and state superintendent rich woods to the Trump Administration asking that federal requirements for standardized testing be waived because of quote the ongoing challenges posed by and resulting state budget reductions. Last month u. S. Educational secretary betsy devos responded by saying quote, you should not anticipate such waivers being branded against, referring to waived last school year but not this score you. Do you agree with the decision secretary devos, and second, then very well for Congress Students in School Systems having to deal with such requirements especially when your School Districts like in my listing every Hancock County which is still our virtual . That was a great question. First let me think Atlanta Press club and gpb and all the viewers for two nights event. Its a very special time in a very special event and in a representative democracy. My moment of her school teachers, the best decision made by the local parents come schoolteacher, principals and administrators. I believe that school choice, a childs education should not be limited to the economic circumstances of their community. Let me just bracket what were going here tonight in just a minute. Jon ossoff is desperate. You will say anything to hide his radical socialist agenda. He wants to defund the police and once open borders come sanctuary cities. He wants the Green New Deal. He wants to cut and Close Military bases in georgia and is for socialized medicine. He will say anything to hide his radical socialist agenda. That is not only dangerous, its dangerous for communities and families in georgia. All right, thank you very much. Emma, please ask a question. Do i get him rebuttal, do i not . Yes, you get a rebuttal and you can ration and let me know that you want it or do what you just did come which was tell me. Go ahead. We can see a reading from the notes that your staff has prepared you come , the questios about this covid19 pandemic which has killed nearly 220,000 americans. After you assured us the risk to our health was low and compared it to the common flu. So instead of pivoting like all you washington politicians due to personal partisan attacks, which are false, why dont you answer the question about how to help schools during this outbreak . Thank you. Now emma please ask a question to jon ossoff. Mr. Ossoff, should you win this election you could become the youngest u. S. Senator and you dont have any experience Holding Political office. In this pandemic and economic crisis why should voters trust you to handle this office from day one . Politicians like senator perdue have failed us and the choice is very clear for voters in this election. I run a business that investigates organize crime, political corruption and war crimes all over the world. With exposed bribery on multiple continents. Senator david perdue cells meetings for Corporate Tax chick that he sells lavish retreats on the private either waitlist for corporate pac money. Thats a correction that is destroying our political system and for politicians dont serve the interests of ordinary people. This said the interest of our donors. Senator perdue even in the midst of this pandemic is pushing a lawsuit to allow Insurance Companies to deny Health Coverage to get with preexisting conditions like asthma and cancer and diabetes because he works for his donors and not for we the people. Id like to respond to that please. I think i get to respond to that. Yes, sir, go ahead. Im glad jon ossoff brought this up. I would like him to explain where his money comes from really in his business. One of his largest clients, is aljazeera, the mouthpiece for terrorism. Hes actually got money for two years from the Chinese Communist government and tried to hide it by not disclosing it on a federal Election Commission report. Its pretty clear he doesnt want people to know that he continues to be supported after 2017 and even two weeks ago supported by the communist party of the u. S. A. Thank you very much. The Washington Post calls your attack false. The associate press calls your attacks flatly false. Is that the rule we have . I believe if he accuses me of those kinds of things that a rebuttal is appropriate. We were told you get one rebuttal. You have 30 seconds to rebut. Is there more you want to say, mr. Also . He has just accused me of ridiculous things to avoid answering a question about health care. Washington post has called his attacks outrageously false. The Associated Press has called his attacks flatly false. My business produces investigations of war crimes, organize, political corruption seemed around the world. Time. Thank you very much. You got money from the Chinese Government for the last two years and did not disclose that . We will have to move on. Im sorry we have to move on. At this point will come back to raoul to ask a question to shane hazel please. Sorry about that. So question for mr. Hazel. You and i had a recent conversation about world broadband. The state of georgias broadband the Planet Initiative has been trying to map the public Internet Access across the state. My listing area, 33 of my of my audience is considered underserved in giving even access to Rural Broadband. During our conversation you said state and local level should be looking at private contracts. Can you go more into that . At the moment in my listening area you have third of who doesnt have access, maybe one provider. For example, should broadband be considered a utility . I want to go more into what are the solutions for Rural Broadband for rural georgia. Its definitely not a function of the federal government. The federal government has almost zero how are to do anything in terms of state infrastructure this is really a look at georgia and thats not what we should be looking at right now. We weve got worse in every nat. In 120 in one of 20 nations wer0 nations around the world with our military. We have a collapsing economy now, 27 trillion in debt. We have no money for them. We are absolutely broke right now and weve an empire of bureaucracy that is obsolete taken the middleman and ducking in between the taxpayer and the utilities to begin with. You could probably start with less surveillance on the roadways and put the fiber optic to work getting out to those areas eagerly wanted to sell sell something instead of surveilling innocent men and women on georgia highways. Ten seconds. This is a state and local issue, not a federal issue whatsoever. Thank you very much. Tom, please ask a question to jon ossoff. Mr. Ossoff you said recently that you dont support packing the Supreme Court but i dont believe that you have said yet whether you would support the constitutional amendment introduced by senator perdue that would limit the court to no more than nine justices. Is that amendment a good idea, why or why not . I think judicial reform is a prerogative of congress, and what i dont support is adding a seek to the sprinkler because we dont like the policy positions of the justices who have been confirmed. Lets remember that four years ago senator perdue was adamant. He gave impassioned floor speeches on the floor of the senate that no confirmation of the Supreme Court justice should proceed in a president ial election year. Now he is thrown those socalled principles aside, and heres why. The Supreme Court will hear oral argument on the repeal of the Affordable Care act and its protection for georgia and with preexisting conditions just days after this election. Senator perdue worked for the Insurance Industry wants to rush through a Supreme Court confirmation to repeal the Affordable Care act and the Insurance Companies again deny coverage to georgia and with preexisting conditions like asthma, diabetes and heart disease. Ten seconds. Id like to respond place. Absolutely. Senator perdue, 32nd. An example or jon ossoff was anything to ideas radical socialist agenda. He will be nothing but a rubberstamp when Chuck Schumer wants to back the court. The situation to a 16 images totally different than today. We had a Different Party in the white house know we did in the senate that we do today. Today with both parties in the same, and the widest and the senate of the same party. Even Justice Ginsburg said when that happens that of course you should go ahead and confirm. Thank you very much. Emma, you get the final question in this round and that is to senator perdue. Senator perdue, during the Trump Administration you closely aligned yourself with the president and according to a recent Atlanta Journalconstitution poll 50 of georgia voters disapprove of the job the president is doing. He will need some of those voters to win this election. What is your message to them . First of all in six years i traveled all over the state from hey howard to hiawatha and listen to people and the troubles and how theyre theiro do with the federal government has been blown out of sight. Even in the pandemic we reached out to over 1 million georgians and listened and try to help them get through this crisis. What i talk about is this, result. After eight years of the most economic output in u. S. History we turned this around and have now going on precovid the greatest economic turnaround in u. S. History, 7. 5 million new jobs. We have highest middleclass income approbation accomplice and upon the 50 years, the lowest African American asian hispanic unemployment ever measured. In most of all after 55 years of failure in the democratic parties great war and poverty from the Great Society we what he did not move the poverty rate, precovid precovid 6. 5 n people pull themselves out of poverty. That contrast with under the Obamabiden Administration exercise plan, 800,000 people fell into poverty and thats what the want to go back to come more regulations, more taxes. Thank you very much. That concludes the first portion of the debate. The candidates will not ask the question to each of their opponents. Candidates will have 15 seconds to ask the question, 60 seconds to respond and 30 seconds for rebuttal. Shane hazel you have the first question to jon ossoff. Absolutely. You have, in support of biden and, harris. Biden was the author of the 94 crime bill that put forth qualified immunity, increase the drug war, Police Militarization civil Asset Forfeiture, no knock raids and, heres the top cup at a california has locked more black men in cages than anybody in any of the state then history. How is a you can support these two and then also say you support blm . Thank you for the question, mr. Hazel. And i learned about Public Service at the feet of my mentor congressman john lewis who spent his entire life and his entire career fighting for civil rights and Voting Rights and thats what i will be a champion for criminal Justice Reform in the United States senate. We have to recognize that racial profiling and brutality, is not isolated incidents that senator perdue insisted this is a systemic problem in our criminal Justice System and what we did in the Civil Rights Act of 100 National Standards for the use of force that is what we need a new Voting Rights act to end racial profiling and racism in criminal justice. When a young black man Ahmaud Arbery is shot to death in the street in broad daylight in georgia and local police and prosecutors looked the other way that makes a mockery of the 14th amendment equal protection guarantees of the u. S. Constitution and thats why we need to strengthen civil rights law. Senator perdue when i get this done. He didnt show up when he you suffice to address the naacp about how we can reform the system. Thank you very much. David perdue it is your turn to ask the question to shane hazel. I would like to rebut that. Thirtysecond. Shane also got to rebut that for 30 seconds . Shane, would you like to rebut that . I dont think he answer the question. I think what we have is an expediency mood. What we are doing is playing Party Politics once again when of course instead of supporting joe biden and Kamala Harris there is a president ial nominee out of the Libertarian Party that is fighting for the end of qualified immunity, the drug was, Police Militarization, civil Asset Forfeiture and no knock raid spirit that is to if were being honest and consistent who we would be supporting. All right now i would like to rebut. You have a tough job tonight, donna. You know, jon ossoff, is about and talking about, this is all talk to the 94 law that she mentioned and i agree 100 , that law was written by joe biden and it locked up more black men in this country than any law in the last 25 years. What we did in the last figures is best criminal Justice Reform the freed 3000 africanamerican young men who were lowlevel nonviolent drug offenders who got caught up in minimum sensing. That 26 years the democrats did to do something about criminal justice for him and they did to zero. Thank you very much. Now senator perdue it is your turn to ask a question to shane hazel. First of all i want to thank you for your military service and i mean that from my heart. We just heard that jon ossoff hypocritically attacked the Paycheck Protection Program. If youd been in the senate would you support the Paycheck Protection Program . No. As libertarians we dont believe in going outside of the constitutional boundaries for the constitutional boundaries are very strict, specific. Article one section eight lays out most of our powers. All powers are for war peace negotiation and we are supposed the extra looking part of our government. Without any real influence on the daytoday lives here in georgia. What i wouldve done is make sure our governor understood that he doesnt have the right to block us from assembly. He does not have the right force of coercion, police and sheriffs to make sure we are assembling. What we should have done is said to a bag with the risk on your own and go out there and do what you need to do to make your family essentially have food and clothing, and leave everybody alone. We dont think, good ideas dont require force. That is how our rights in america. Thank you for the question. Thank you very much. Jon ossoff, please ask hey, donna, i think i get rebuttal. Senator perdue, go ahead, 30second. Shane, i agree 100 with the concept of limited government. I do think in this situation though it was an unprecedented pandemic that required health for people to survive the pandemic. We brought 47 billion to the state of georgia to try to help our hospitals, schools, communities and our Small Businesses. We did the ppp program the state 1. 5 million jobs in the state. Id like to rebut that very quickly if i might. No ahead. Although your heart is in the right place, senator, towers are very specific power. We allow one person do this we allow anybody everybody to s here going forward. What we should have done is left people to their own lives and their liberties, and really not shut down the economy which is cost over 1 million jobs here. Thank you very much. Jon ossoff please ask your question to senator perdue. Center, 220,000 parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors have been killed by a virus that you insisted was no more deadly than the ordinary flu. When you told us the risk was low, you and all trump both downplayed the threat of this crisis. Do you believe President Trump has done everything in his power to keep the people of georgia safe and healthy during this pandemic . Thank you for the question. I have been totally focus on the needs of georgians since this crisis broke out. The quote you are giving is totally misleading. Its what im telling the viewers tonight is you left off the back part of that will be also said that you need to take this very seriously and we did. We created a relief package the brought 47 billion to the ten including a ppp program that you oppose the safe 1. 5 million jobs in georgia. You wouldve denied those 1. 5 Million People their jobs. Thats what im fighting for. In the meantime all you would do if youd been incident what event of rubber stamp for Chuck Schumer who is locking the country down, will not negotiate for a second days of this thing that the Small Businesses will indeed 140,000 Small Business in the state of georgia. If they dont get some help in the very near future all the rest we do for them may go for not. It just seems to me you say anything to hide your radical socialist agenda. Rebuttal . Senator perdue, look up from the notes and the question. Did you believe President Trump has done everything in his power to protect the people of georgia during this pandemic . I absolutely do and ill tell you this. Have democrats been at fault we would have anarchy like in portland and chicago and california. You guys are trying to divide the country right now when were in in a moment of crisis. What we have now is a way forward. We are doing everything we can to break through the regulations that would bring a vaccine quicker. You guys had all the regulations under obamacare in the meantime we have broken through that and are going to deliver one much earlier than that. You see these treatment regimens. That never wouldve happened under a democraticcontrolled senate. Jon ossoff . Senator, the president of the United States stood at the White House Briefing room and suggested people in check chemical disinfectants. You told us this disease was no more deadly than the flu. You are changing the subject left, right, and center. You seriously believe President Trump has done everything in his power to protect us, or have you been to busy fending off multiple federal investigations for Insider Trading to be your own job . Senator perdue. I get responder for small you can talk about that all but but its already been refuted. The other thing is it so easy to be a monday morning quarterback. You misquote the president and what is it is just not true. This is what im saying. He will say anything to divert the people away from the truth about how radical your social agenda really is. Thank you very much. We need to move on so now it is time for shane hazel, please k your question of senator perdue. Senator perdue, the 116th congress is not fair to open constitutional voting. Your score to date from the 116th congress for constitutional votes for the Freedom Index is 25 . What differentiates you from jon ossoff . First of all i am a Free Enterprise. I believe in Free Enterprise system. I believe and Economic Opportunity for everybody and individual liberty. What a jon ossoff please is pretty obvious. You want state control, he wants this to be a socialist state. The extreme left of the Democratic Party is taken over control and if elected jon ossoff would be a rubberstamp for the radical Left Movement within the Democratic Party. I believe this is the greatest country in history of the world. I love america. The democrats including my opponent transects talk negatively about it. When you think of people i want to support the police. They walk into another credit he says i believe in defunding the police. He is backed by a billionaire Michael Bloomberg and when he goes at in the state he says is for some codis with the Second Amendment always in atlanta he says Something Different totally. He talks about never taking any corporate money. Hes on tv right now talking never taking corporate money which has been talking by respected newspaper that he is already taking tens of thousands of dollars. He is radical and is trying to hide this radical socialist agenda. Thank you. Debating snorer purdue is like being on twitter. Come out to the real world where people are suffering. This isnt about democrats versus republicans and liberals versus conservatives. This is about the people of the United States against . Like you in washington, too busy enriching yourself why youre in office to protect us from the most significant threat to our health and our prosperity in generations, i thought you set the medically downplayed and at night and the fail to address responsibly or effectively. I i need to respond to that. Senator perdue. Its been refuted and the more he says it amore confirms come he will say anything to write is radical socialist agenda. All right. Senator perdue it is your turn to ask a question to jon ossoff. Id be happy to, donna, thank you. John come to support defunding the police. Your billionaire buddies who are backing your campaign sent 5 of your money is coming from outside the state. I who want you to define the police. The federal fraternal order of police and 95 shares include 12 shares from own party in our state have endorsed me and not you. Why is that . Center to come i dont support defunding the police and thats what every time the newspaper on eradication had to call you false. You are lying about my record because you do want to address your own. You have done nothing, nothing to address the demand of millions of people, multiracial, multigenerational coalition that is peacefully demanding criminal Justice Reform and the reform of policing in this country. I was out marching peacefully with the naacp eight spring after Ahmaud Arbery was killed, and Bishop Jackson of the ame church said they had invited you to come and address the people and describe how we could heal these world and rebuild trust between communities and Law Enforcement. Not only didnt you sure you did it respond to the invitation. Instead of trying to politicize this and turn the need for reform of criminal justice into a political wedge, why dont you put forward a proposal that will actually help rebuild trust between communities and Law Enforcement . Senator perdue. We not only put a proposal we passed a law, jon. We actually did something about criminal Justice Reform, something you couldve done for for 26 you scope your party and he did not do a thing. Your billionaire buddies want you to defund the police. You have been in valleys with a sensitive think about you are abolished the police. You tell people you are beaten down to where they cant raise their head in public preaching what im talking about here is that these sheriffs know you not have the back. These fraternal order of police to know that you will not have the back. Thats why they are endorsing me. Are arbeit, were going to me on. Jon ossoff, it is your turn for the final question in the segment for shane hazel. Mr. Hazel, grateful to your presence here, grateful for your presence in the race and for your consistent principles. Senator perdue several years ago expressed he thought the department of education should be abolished turkey is expressed his support for abolishing the Environmental Protection agency. I dont know if he still holds those jews but what are your thoughts based on your libertarian principles on those agencies and the role they play in our government and in our society . Thank you, jon. Its about the firsttime effort to mention my name ever. You are the senator in the case which i think was an active suppression. In terms of the department of education and the epa and whole bunch of other alphabet soup that is an constitutional merited or delicate to the federal government. Those powers belong to the states for the tenth amendment. What we see now in terms of government education or government indoctrination i think its letters to the path where we are now. Nobody understands the rights come nobody is a cosocial expert, nobody is going out there and defending what the constitution is. You probably have Something Like a 50 constitutional voting record. Senator perdue has a 25 and 116th congress if there was only one senator in all of the United States that has an a average and that is rand paul. I am a heck of a lot more like rand paul than anyone else out there. To decentralize these powers to the states and the people reach out and touch the local representatives, that is how we get better results against the government out. Right now with more government than weve ever had in history. We dont need any more of it. Thank you, mr. Hazel. Jon ossoff, your rebuttal. Mr. Hazel, appreciate your response. I appreciate the consistency of your principles though i i disagree with joint policy. Senator perdue and bass has expressed his support for abolition of the department of education which once the Pell Grant Program for College Affordability hes expressed support for abolition of the vibrant of Protection Agency which protects our clean air and clean water, at about the approach approaches issue with this inconsistency that you do. Ten seconds. Thank you very much. Mr. Perdue . Id like to respond. My mom and dad were schoolteachers and they believe and i do too that the best decision made between the parents come schoolteacher, administrators of the local community. It just seems to be you have to look at results. The five of education mmi does been a disastrous instance created in 1976 i jimmy carter. Part to the time of 14yearold lead the world and math site debating at the day we are down the list. It seems we need to hold it accountable just like we should the post office and other departments out there. Mr. Ossoff . Senator perdue, do you support abolishing the department of education. As i did mention his name. Im sorry. Do you still support abolishing the Department Education . Its a simple question. Senator perdue go ahead. Im done. All right. So no answer . Will move on, move on. And that will conclude not listening. That will conclude her secondround or for those just joining us this is the debate between candidates for u. S. Senate. We will now go on back to the pan to ask questions until we run out of time. I will determine when a rebuttal is appropriate but candidates may raise their hand if they feel they should get a rebuttal. Rahul, you get the first question in this round. Senator perdue of a to go back to the first round and asked a question an education again. Specifically, should the Trump Administration or congress waive federal requirement for standardized testing and allow states to make the decision . Personally rahul with Everything Else weve done in terms of waiting certain requirements of regulatory oversight, i personally would support that until we get out of this crisis. The schools are under great pressure. Some are virtual, some are in person, some accommodation and it puts a lot of pressure on these teachers and school administrators. Thats my answer to the question that i think its a reasonable thing to consider. I know im in disagreement may e with the secretary but this one makes sense to me as a child of two teachers. Thank you very much. Tom baxter, it is your turn. Senator perdue, the constitutional amendment that we were talking about a minute ago with mr. Ossoff, one you cosponsored, says the u. S. Supreme court should consist of no more than nine members. Says nothing about whether or for how long the court might operate with less than nine members, and you can affect the balance of the court by reducing its size just as easily as you can by increasing it. Should the amendment have some provision for filling open seats expeditiously to avoid situations like that after the death of Justice Scalia . I would support that but i think the primary notion here is this is against obstruction. You see the democrats in washington saying now Different Things than the sedin 16. I want to make sure this is very clear. The situation now where we have the same party and the widest and the senate is different that we had in 2016 where you had speedy but you would agree that the constitutional amendment should include some provision for not dragging out a confirmation . Follow historic legacy and that is i heard your question [inaudible] my point is this, is that if you look at the historical legacy, 19 times in our history youve had this situation and only 17, or in 17 of those incidences they were confirmed. Even Justice Ginsburg said in situation like this you should of course go ahead and confirmed in that year. All right. Thank you very much. Emma, please ask the question. This question is for all the candidates hopefully enough of medical alphabetical order. The question is on the georgia you all have gone out by ten inches unless it is and will continue rising as the ice caps melt of the warmer. Mr. Ossoff and senator perdue you both of said you oppose the Green New Deal. Mr. Hazel you oppose to government funding and Greenhouse Gas regulation. What do you propose to do to address the Sea Level Rise and climate change. As you leave it to the states, you live to the conservations, the guides, the outdoorsman and women that understand the local environment and their habitats. They know more about local populations for fish and wildlife other than else. Those people can reach out and touch their city council, county commissioners, people like that and they could come up with better practices for those areas then. Kratz in. Especially when were talking about going into things like the paris accords where we are going to be strapped with more and more debt, were going to have two about to regulations while china and india and the rest of the world does not. First and foremost you can downsize the government. The government is the largest polluter in the United States. You scale back the epa, scale back the dod, skeptical bunch of alphabet soup and now youve got a cleaner world almost automatically. Ninety. Mr. Ossoff . Georgias farmers and fishermen are already feeling the effects of climate change, as art coastal commuters which will continue to see more high storm surge events, more high wind events. We can unite this country at a moment with so many are out of work and struggling economically behind a historic infrastructure plan with an president investments in clean energy to make georgia the leading producer of Renewable Energy in the American South east to invest in Public Health clinics, research and development, world broadband come and transportation. We can unite people behind infrastructure program. Senator perdue has been in the senate for six years in the senate majority, no major infrastructure plan because this is a man with a vision. This is a man who lacks vision beyond the his donors. Senator, you can even accept e Scientific Consensus that Greenhouse Gas pollution is affecting climate change, do you . Rebuttal, senator perdue. Thank you. Lets talk about infrastructure. Democrats for 20 years tried to deepen this for some republicans as well but a politicians failed. As a business guy went to washington to get result resulr georgia and we did that. Thats nice economic return of any Infrastructure Investment we had available to us in the United States and we got it done. It will be completed by the end of next year. The next thing is dash that i can tell know would understand better than farmers about how to take care of error, land and water. Its not big bureaucracy that will solve this and you can talk button for such are you want to. Talk to us about how were going to finance that because thank you very much. Senator perdue, you may not answer the question that emma asked about climate change. First of all thank you for the question. I think we can all agree that climate is changing and as i said i grew up on a farm working on a farm and my ancestors and my relatives all know because they want to head to down to te next generation. What weve got to do is different what the democrats are talking about their talk about the Green New Deal and no matter what kind success and what might he dont support it, another when he does. He to do with all the ship doing with all oil and gas production. He never talks about race look. Not that the baseload and right now but another in terms of power generation. They would cost millions of jobs, the Green New Deal cost 9 trillion per year. That is the greatest threat to medicare and Social Security how we have in America Today is this outrageous spending plan the democrats are trying to perpetrate in this election. Thank you very much. Rahul, it is your turn to ask the question. I actually want to follow up on this conversation. Mr. Ossoff, when you and i talked about your infrastructure plan i asked you how are you going to pay for it . Your answer was United States treasury. I am looking for specific string is that going to be through raising taxes, raising fees le on cell phones for Rural Broadband, specific cuts to the federal budget, or taking on more debt, more National Debt was just looking for how are you going to pay for that plan . First of all we should be cutting taxes for working families and Small Businesses. We should be cutting taxes for working families and Small Businesses, and as how we finance and the vicious infrastructure agenda, look, when it comes time to embark upon wars of choice, based off and on false pretenses, when it comes time to shovel trillions of dollars at investment banks on wall street to bail them out, when senator perdue and miss mcconnell want to spend trillions of dollars on giveaways or their political donors come senator perdue never asked where we are going to find those resources. First of all he hasnt answered the question. He believes in cutting taxes . That the joke. No democrat has ever said that and i tell you joe biden will drive taxes up. And i believe in public, private partnerships. And and the trillion dollar infrastructure package and no economic return. And is not created one american job. On the subject of infrastructure and climate change, whether it is about abolishing the department of education. I am afraid to answer the question. You havent answered the question whether you accept the Scientific Consensus that human Greenhouse Gas emission is driving climate change. Why were talking about Unanswered Questions youve never come clean on al jazeera or the Chinese Communist government. And when you talk about an it is really an irony is you never created one american job. This is the swamp. He wont answer the question. Always deflecting, always pivoting. Do you support abolishing the department of education, do you accept the Scientific Consensus on climate change. Look at the camera. He has not answered if he took corporate money. Will you answer that to the people of georgia . Moderator we have to move on. We have to move on and come back. You have a question. This is the question i would like to ask all three candidates. Lets start with john ossof and go to david perdue and then shane hazel. Many of those who have one that a Global Pandemic was coming now believe this wont be the last one. What can this country do to ensure reaction to the next pandemic wont become politicized and uncoordinated and please try to answer without much casting blame or taking credit for the current pandemic. That is for you. Moderator john ossof. Ossof my wife is an ob gyn doctor in atlanta and she had all the heroic healthcare workers have put themselves at risk to keep people healthy during this crisis. She has held the hands of mothers with chloroquine for delivering babies who cannot be surrounded with loved ones. Healthcare workers have done their jobs. Politicians like david perdue have not. The answer to your question is to empower and trust medical experts. David perdue cut 1 billion from the centers for Disease Control and prevention, compared chloroquine 4 to the flu, who enabled this president and a Pandemic Response that everybody from all parties knows has been a disaster, nearly a quarter of 1 million americans have died. We need government that is honest and competent and empowers Public Health experts in a Public Health emergency. Moderator 10 seconds. David perdue. Perdue it seems to me i idle chatter here. What we really did is brought help to the pupil of georgia, in hospitals, schools, communities and in the workplace. While john ossof opposed ppp his own father took out a ppp loan, saving 1 million and have jobs in georgia. He will not answer that honestly for the people of georgia, why he imposed a ppp line. We need to build our strategic reserve, develop a quicker way to develop vaccines. We had to knock out a lot of democratically originated regulations in order to begin to do that. No way to stand up to the next virus, if we dont get the financial house in order, we comfortable trillion dollars, we may not have the right to do that later. Moderator john ossof. Ossof im astounded. It is not idle chatter. It is 220,000 americans killed by a virus that you told us, excuse me, senator. 220,000 i will wait for my time to be restored. Are you done . Perdue not by a long shot. Ossof 226,000 americans have been killed and listen to you, schoolyard insults. Not a shred of empathy. Not a shred of personal responsibility that the virus you told us pose low risk to our health, a virus you compared to the ordinary flu, the Administration Response that was obviously totally incompetent which you enabled, and the economic damage. You should be ashamed. Perdue you should be ashamed that you took money from the Chinese Government that originated the virus in the first place. Their culpability. We need to give shane hazel a chance to answer this question. If you are sick of this kind of stuff and want principled consistency on the policy here in the United States and overseas you are not going to get it with these type of politicians, both spend 40 million in terms of getting their voices out to you. This is about you, the American People, this is about freedom and liberty. This is not about 1sizefitsall government solution. This is about empowering you. As a marine combat veteran with Nuclear Biological Chemical training i can tell you politicians making gross accusations day in and day out about what is going on in the current political environment is gross and neglectful of the American People and their lives. Less government in your life the better decisions you can make. Moderator and now we are going to move on. Emma, your question. You were criticized for not holding a public townhall while in office. I understand you hold constituent conference calls. Im asking about the open townhall format. Why havent you done that . Ossof that is a lie democrats are perpetrated for six years, something they can disrupt. We take care of people who have legitimate questions, 159 counties and in this pandemic, we reached out to 1 Million People, to help improve this. John talks about empathy. I lost some close friends, it is outrageous to say it is not personal to me. What weve got to do now is beat this virus and get ready for the neat one and get the economy back. How do you trust more to get the economy that . Someone who created tens of thousands of jobs or someone who talks idle chatter about the democratic mantra . Moderator thank you very much. We will go now to roll, your question. David perdue, i want to talk about something we talked about in a recent conversation, the focus on mandatory federal expenses like Social Security medicare, i want to focus on Social Security. We are looking for specifics. Would you raise the Social Security tax coming out of paychecks . Would you raise the age someone gets full Social Security benefits. Looking for specifics on what you want to focus on in a second term, what would you do specifically with Social Security . Perdue i would protect Medicare Beneficiaries. The greatest threat to them, ill get to the internet. Ive not heard anything from john ossof yet. The greatest threat to it is all the democratic spending they wanted to put medicare and Social Security in great jeopardy. I believe you can fall Social Security by working on several things, you protect the beneficiaries and make sure nothing happens to them. You have to keep career politicians operating the trust fund and in the meantime, more talk, more entitlement, no real solution. The democratic spending between socialized medicine and Green New Deal, would jeopardize Medicare Beneficiaries and Social Security beneficiaries. Where would your focus be . Getting more money into Social Security or curtailing the benefits . Im asking specifically where is your focus on that . As a business guy you work on revenue expenses and a situation like this, career politicians since 1983, democrats and republicans, time to get serious about this. I believe in a second term of donald trump we could get to that but you have to have compromise. You have to work on means testing potentially, you have to work on the revenue side of this thing but the first thing is beneficiaries to protect and save Social Security and medicare. Moderator all right, that is all the time we have for questions. Each candidate will have 60 seconds, the First Closing statement. Perdue the viewers can see what i was saying is exactly right. John ossof is desperate, he will say anything to hide his radical socialist agenda. He wants the Green New Deal, to defund the police, Close Military bases in georgia, for socialized medicine on us. In my 40year Business Career i learned how to create tens of thousands of jobs and took that to washington, get results for georgia. We created the economic turnaround in us history after eight years of total disaster under barack obama and joe biden. We are building our military back, confirming judges that will apply law, not make law. We achieved energy independence. Right now the choice is clear. It seems to me if you stand to gather. You can get your economy back. We can make sure the American Dream is a reality for every child in america. God bless you and thank you. Moderator john ossof, it is your turn. Ossof thank you to our hosts. My mother came to this country as an immigrant when she was 23 years old because she believed in america. Doesnt mean she indulged some fantasy about our history or didnt know how much further we had to go but she believed and admired that our founding documents enshrined the principles of universal human rights, she became a citizen, to move the country forward. It has broken my mothers heart. You like it has broken so many hearts. We are more divided than at any time in modern american history. We have a president who is not up to the job and works every day to divide us further. A quarter of 1 million americans will soon have died from a virus that our own government, donald trump and david perdue said pose low risk to our health. Our healthcare is on the line, it is time to vote and make a change in this country. Moderator shane hazel, you get the final closing statement. Thank you for having me. If you are tired of what you are seeing here between politicians, youve got a choice. With george of voting laws you get a do over if there is a runoff. My mission is to bring people together while preserving the freedom of every individual regarding of skin color, age, faith, gender, love and every other nuance which makes us unique. We come together, we remove the government corporate cabal from our lives, peaceful people here in the us and around the world, i believe in peace through liberty, i believe it is time to end the wars including the drug more. I believe it is time to restore sound money and end the Federal Reserve and time to end the empire which is the bureaucratic nightmare. And the federally proved a mattress, time to get back into it. I am shane hazel and hope to earn your vote. Moderator that concludes our debate and we remind voters election day is tuesday november 3rd.
