Freemarket economics in judeochristian principles. During this session several members of the House Freedom caucus discussed u. S. China relations and how it impacts their districts. Welcome back to the center. We had an actionpacked day. You are about ready to see the best of the best. These are the heroes in congress from Freedom Caucus and the conservative caucus. My good friends up in d. C. Still fighting the fight, that we are still china today and on going to go one by one. We have three panels of four u. S. Congressman so we are honored to have all of you here today, and lets just start off with brian babin from texas, and bryant, im going to leadoff with the other brothers from congress who can do this in the back room, hello, brothers back there, and sisters. I can hear you in the back room. They are all my friends. Con babbitt, want to ask you all kinds of first hurdle is upon which anything else depends is the sense of how did china send us this virus . Was it intentional in in respect . Was it an accident that will know they came from wuhan district. We all know it was near a lab but everything hangs on this proposition, right . With 40 Million People out of work. We have got death and suffering, family breakups come depression medicine through the roof, bankruptcies of small business, disaster in this country. In some sense it is caused by china. How do you articulate how morally responsible is china for the virus coming this way . Its great to be here with you. Great to see you. Great to be with my colleagues. I think absolutely china is responsible for this pandemic. Theres a question about it. Whether they did it intentionally or whether it was just a mess up, thats hard to say but i will say this. They were prohibiting flights within china to and from wuhan while at the same time they were allowing flights to europe, to the United States and around the world. It leads one to believe that they were either trying to cover it up so much that they accidentally let it out but accidentally on purpose let it out, lets put like that. We are all aware this thing has been politicized. I really want, dont want to go too much down that road in your district are folks getting the sense it is from china and that the damage is therefore on china . Which is it is the strongest evidence, they shut down beijing and wuhan but they allowed 400,000 out to iran, italy and new york and san francisco. What are your folks saying . My folks are livid. They are very upset. Personally i have known the china has been an adversary for many, many years as it will appear on the stage is. I think the average joe out there in the United States did not quite understand that. If theres anything that comes out of this pandemic its the fact that we have looked behind the curtain and we have seen a face of an adversary that wants to take us down and wants to supplant us as the number one nation on the face of this earth. I think if theres anything good that comes out of the pandemic it will be that the American People will be behind and supportive of efforts to keep china at arms length, hold them accountable for what theyre doing. Goodness gracious, dave, the administration has ordered the closure of a chinese consulate that in houston, texas, which i represent, a large swath of that area here of course in retaliation of their closing down one of hours in china. Whatever it takes we have to push back. We also have to protect the American People. To protect our intellectual property. We have to protect on the ranking republican on space and aeronautics subcommittee, and they have already, they have had launched last week going to mars, and only one nation has successfully gone through the seven minutes of terror going through the Martian Atmosphere in leading successfully with a rover, and that is the United States. Im waiting to see what happens over the next weeks and months, and we see what happens. But its absolutely necessary for the United States to gather our allies up and their eyes up and opened as well. Their blinders are off anything were going to see an alliance pushing back on china. With your reverend hat on, first, are we at war . The American People i think still do have a heavy dose of the judeochristian ethos in them. We always tend to think the rest of the world thinks like we do but the evidence from the cultural revolution in china six years ago up to today were seeing Human Behavior that we dont calculate. Thats kind of an open ended but as a pastor are we at war . If we are at war or war on amea people ready to say were at war . Whether there were to say it or not we certainly are. Its great to see. Justin just in the last few wasy have torn down over to a 50 crosses. We have been putting forth resolutions tried to address this against International Law come against their own constitution. They have been massively attacking religious liberties to the extent of removing every religious symbols, raising churches to the ground, persecuting individuals. We know that over 80,000 uighurs that is never and transported the slave labor camps and its just something that has to be noticed and ask to be addressed and we have a responsibility here in the United States to bring those issues to light and to do it we can to address the. To folks interdistrict, can they stand to look at that evil, that atrocity over there . Weve got just the beginnings of cultural revolution going on here. The chinese would get rid of the old, confucius, religion, the statutes come your culture. We starting to see that here. Yes, we are. Are the people ready . Can they can see that the United States is changing in this direction of us would stand up and fight . Thats an outstanding point because where they are, okay, they are much further down the road in this avenue of religious liberties that we are. But they got there by the same type of things that were beginning to see here in the u. S. With rewriting of history, terry encounter monuments, going after it is an elevation of the state to replace god, really, and thats what now they have in china where there is an outright attempt to reeducate people to acknowledge that the state and itself is god. We are not there but we are seeing some of those seeds that grew into this type of into result have very much been planted or in process of being planted here in the United States, and we cannot afford to be silent on these issues, da. We can it be so as to whats happening in china nor can we be silent as to whats happening right now in the United States, that as a relates to all our liberties, freedoms, First Amendment rights and so forth if we do not stand firm on those issues the end result would be just as horrific as it is in china and other places in the world. You go back more broadly, post the cold war with the soviet union, the United States but he did develop a grand strategy, large of the what did happen china was ready to insert themselves into the void. Its been great for china, and as part of that the Clinton Administration Health Create the structure of the world trade organization. As part of that china got special status as a developed economy and that was true back in the 90s. They have developed pretty nicely, the second largest economy in the world now. As part of that they agreed to be a market economy. Zero countries recognize china as a market economy. Every single trading partner would say the same things. They subsidize, they dont to the steel market share, they block Market Access in violation of wto commitments, then if you do happen to put anything in there, they were to take it over and still prevent the actual Market Access from happening. They feel a little property, not just in china but all over the world. They have a whole of country approach to doing this with their entire economy. And meanwhile the wto has set back complacent. Donald trump was calling this out before he was president turkey. He called it out during the campaign and his work hard to deal with it in china. Frankly the Biggest Issue has been frankly now rest of the world, blinders are often countries like france said hey, if you want protective equipment just agree to use huawei as your 5g provider. Like, who would do that . China would do that. Thats who would do that. Theres no dilution anymore as to the nature and character of chinas approach to dominating global trade. Talk about one belt, one road. You see what youre doing to small economies in africa for example, but theyre ready to do it to the rest of the planet. Weve really urgently have to either reshape the wti replace the Deputy Health and we need to really do that with an alliance that says youre more likely to win a war when you multiply your allies and when you multiply you in the spirit we do need to embrace that and deal with it and if they want that okay. Ohio was saying this all along. They were being ignored whether it was obama or mccain or romney, people saying those jobs are not coming back. Donald trump says theyre coming back and were going to fight for them. That message was perfectly calibrated for states like ohio, states like michigan, wisconsin, western p. A. , the quote rust belt. Its not rusty. Were manufacturing innovators. We still make more than ever in the United States of america but weve lost a lot of batch to china. Our compass can compete against any company in the world but they should have to compete against the nationstate. Meanwhile our nationstate has been handcuffing us. If you look, the same is true for Energy Production in the trend. You look at come with congressman perry back there, talked a lot about engagement finding and who once said the saudi want it, the russians want it, the chinese want it, anything to weaken our economy weaken our currency. We need to work hard. You know, the heartland of america, the message donald trump ran on resonates with win and, frankly, its time for deeds, not words. And very please with those results with the trade deals and get a long ways to go. We should really accelerate this and build on the momentum while we have everyones attention about how critical of the supply chain is. Congressman ted budd, carolina, businessman, attorney general barr gave a powerful speech a week ago and he talked about businesses that of are dg too much collaboration and collusion with china. A wakeup call for american business, et cetera. This week pompeo on International Scene gives powerful speech, action, we are starting to take actions and then houston, texas, taking action not words. Other folks in your district, are they paying attention to these key speeches . To the see whats going on on the world stage and how it impacts in. Is absolutely and i can tell you a story about a very sizable business multiple generation been in business over 10000 years and now i think this is a great warning to other businesses who have had this problem. They make pipe, jim i look at your kitchen sink or under your bathroom sink and you see their brand into. It are manufactured in china. But their logo, their schematic schematics, the imprint was on pipe being produced in china, being complete intellectual theft. We had to go assist them in the battle and say look with china is doing to this domestic company. Thats a warning to other companies. We are definitely seeing it. The u. S. , there is a Freedom Alliance brewing out there. Trump runs on this America First thing that people say this thia going to go good. Americas just self interested in looking at their own self interest, and it turns out hae we have got in the and australia in the uk and sets in africa president present all yelling at china now. So on the world scene its kind of ironic we do America First, editing and what is starting to see the deceit, the way china has been treating the subsaharan africa, the horn of africa. Just with contempt and maybe theyre not perfect but they are our allies. How can you you can see the auditory lending. They would loan realizing this nationstate wouldnt be able to pay the back and, therefore, they could take control of the port and were single hostile their intent ultimately is. We need to make a big distinction there, and that is our enemy of the Chinese Communist party is not a force for good. You have seen them on fox news every day, and he was the head of the senate and the state hes from. He has this strategery mindset, in other words, hes very smart. So andy biggs, gibson was to pick whats at the Freedom Caucus doing on china . What she would be doing . How can the American People help in the fight against china . And are we at war with china . So people need to quit thinking of china as a peaceful economic adversary or economic opponent. Thats up with the art. Theyre not an economic competitor. China has over the last essentially 25 years moved itself away from a full on communist economy to some kind of hybridization of economy while maintaining the same type of communist authoritarian rule that they have had going back to mao and through done shopping, et cetera. So what we need to do Deng Xiaoping Freedom Caucus doesnt take a formal position but we need to do is look back at some of the trade restrictions that we had in place when we were in the cold war with russia and actually preclinton era china. You need to encourage whats going on in india. Right now you have a hot war going on between india and china. Its just nation but its hot. Its in a northern border so what you need to do is you need to not necessarily encourage you were but you need to encourage a balancing structure that i am a realist and as a realist i believe everybody moves to balance. You cant india, you move over to the South East Asia pricer in the nation, vietnam, the philippines, taiwan, japan and south korea, you could actually contain china and let those in the region contained in. We need to be working on that, strengthen that. Thats probably shooting off pretty thats right on the money. Do they know, are the following the issue . Im just ready give you carte blanche. What if you got for us, general . We might not be at war with china a china has been with us for a long time in the fashion and logical ways. Its been outlined in the book that many people might not be aware of, unrestricted warfare. Its not only as a matter fact, they dont prefer a hot water they prefer an economic war which they been engaged in a long time. Just thinking about some of the questions that chairman biggs answered. I think people in my district are starting to get it but lets face it the United States government has lied to the American People on the balance of 40 years about our relationship with china and that they were a strategic competitor, not what they really are. Whether its the coronavirus out of wuhan and their actions in that regard or the theft, i was listening to the things and he rattled off. Weve given them some of that stuff but they are taken, that taken a whole lot of stuff and weve opened the door over and over and over again and so it is way, way beyond time for the United States to shut that door and recognize china, it is more i think in this discussion probably all of us would agree its important to differentiate it when the Chinese Communist party and the Chinese People. The Chinese Communist party was put into power with the assistance of the United States oh, by the way come in the late 40s and 50s. And so we need to recognize that and then treat them accordingly. I think of china as like a thugocracy. It is a criminal organization that runs a geographically runs, you know, this whole group of people which is a country. But thats how we need to see it. Im working on both think that i think lot of folks here are come for instance, we want to name the Chinese Communist party a Transnational Criminal Organization because that opens up the whole panoply of things to not only United States of the International Criminal courts and thats who they are. When we look at what happened in nazi germany and say never again, but allow the things that are happening in western china right now, i mean, you cant just say its inconvenient because were such economic ties. Every single little town in pennsylvania had one or two industries and i was growing up and over the course of my lifetime all of them have gone. Most of them have gone to china. Theres a reason for that. We have allowed it. We have enabled it and now its way beyond time to recognize who they are and take the same action she would against any other criminal organization which means that actions and very strident actions. It means i could chairman said it mean to sanction but it also means Holding People accountable. The Chinese Communist party is guilty of egregious egregious things. Are the following this issue . I will tell you my district understand whats at stake with the chinese, where a Strong Manufacturing district, 435 grams of congress, with the 13th largest exporting district in the country, my three coastal counties of texas gulf coast. And economically they are ip theft has destroyed billions of dollars off of our gdp and it is that gdp fuels our military which allows us to provide security to the world. Every one of those categories we are being confronted and we need to be confronted back. I got three bills if i could show the real quick that address some of the stuff. Weve got to the manufacturing back so i got a bill that expenses any company that moves from china back to the United States 100 of cost of the move. Another bill is they are buying up Distressed Companies that have National Security impact. What we are doing is we have a bill i have bill that creates basically an investment guarantee. If american investors by those Distressed Companies there some backing for it. So the china isnt by a company that helps our tanks work or whatever. And then i got another bill that we send a lot of money to this wuhan blood. Scott mentioned it earlier. We dont know exactly and the American People dont know how much come how Many American dollars go to china. We need a transparent ability to get one of those dollars. Thank you very much. One more question, andy biggs, you are chairman of the crew and you get the chance to do some are partisan work, whatever is left in that realm. Is there any come give any word on Bipartisan Legislation that may go further than that, maybe auditing of chinese firms to the sec which they are not . Any other good news . I like to give you some good news but im not hearing a lot of good news. There should be auditing. They should be treated like american companies, and thats the advantage. Ill just tell you if i can just say internationally that might be some good news. That is to say that so you have multilateral institutions that are not happy with china particularly in the region. They are upset about the ruling became the chinese had no right to ownership or title or the islands in the South China Sea. The problem that were facing is that china is such a behemoth over there, the philippines, they are afraid to take them on. In fact, the leader of their said we will go one way or the other. We just dont know quite which we were going to go yet. You did with vietnam which has been come had to deal with the chinese for millennia actually. But the good news is i think those states on International Front have really kind of had it with chinas come if i could say bullying in the area and the other thing is this move by china to be, to make the yuan the International Currency of exchange, is that thats not being brought into by a lot of those in the region. And thats important for us. So those are good news of when to get back to our colleagues across the aisle, if we could somehow convince them that it wasnt russia but that it was china, you know . That it was china that was the issue instead of donald trump we might get some action the Foreign Affairs committee, i mean, my whole time in congress with that bills or amendments to rein in china and we can get no support from the other side. They are in the majority right now. They could run the table and all the stuff, and still, still, fort affairs where passing some amendments in the Transportation Committee regarding reigning china in but not on the Foreign Affairs committee. Thats ridiculous. If i could jump in. I am on the select committee for the coronavirus. The lumber University Just said 61 of our casualties could have been prevented had china alerted us just one week sued. Thats about 85,000 dead americans because china didnt. We cannot get the select committee on the coronavirus to look at china as a potential cost. How to characterize with the folks in addition think when were at war . Either willing to take action on it or are they just curious still . I think its a combination. One, they call it for what it is. This came out of china. This wasnt something that came from North Carolina or virginia or florida. It came from china. Secondly, its given them a bigger awareness of issues that we face that they didnt know about. Confucius institute as an example. People now come and we have one at a school in South Carolina where they are teaching, taking our brightest, taking our intellectual property under the guise of scientific study. And so its a maid, given them a witness. Its given them i guess a wanting to learn more about it. Look at what this pandemic has cost, 4. 1 million lives. The Economic Impact is what is striking. They came out of nowhere, so on that one your successful in business. You have linkages come you to everybody. If we do go forward and decouple from china in a serious way and bring back the supply chains quickly, what will be the field of business . We know the chamber and will have some pushback from wall street crowd but just across main street usa there are folks who say we dont want to be punitive but want to bring it back. How do we adjust for this . The number one comment ive heard, that she sweat shop labor was not so cheap. What theyve done to this country, economically, the human toll and i think theres a willingness now and its almost American Pride to own a supply chain to start making here, repatriation, get dollars back you. They are urging other companies that make products particularly in the car manufacturing, we at bmw, we have volvo and they are wanting now to get selfsufficient. We cannot afford to let this out again. Thats good to hear. Even the dates are starting you say we see the writing on the wall, were starting to move toward selfsufficiency biggs. Dave, you hit it. Weve got come its got to be a groundswell of the smallest business to the largest business and wall street is where we would get kicked by. Wall street does not by this. They made a lot of money. Anybody has over the years but at what cost . At this time in our history to this happen is unamerican. It can happen again. What if they come after the food chain supply . The economy has got multiple problems across all sectors. Debt problems in the 50 trillion range for assets on all this kind of thing. Its down to 4 growth and some folks are starting to say hey, this may be more of a paper tiger than reality. Its a 19 trillion there up in a 14 trillion range range as far as total gdp.
