Everybody and very importantly we are at the white house and the still place like the white house. And for those of you that this is the first time, i know exactly what you were thinking, because i was here first time and it was still something i will never forget. Its great to have you and a first lady and i are pleased to welcome everybody to this wonderful place to discuss the vital importance of safety in reopening americas schools. We want to reopen the schools. Everybody wants it. The moms want it. The dads want it. The kids wanted. Its time to do it if you know, our mortality rate is right now at a level that people dont talk about but its down tenfold, tenfold. So you look at deaths are way down from this horrible coronavirus and its a disgrace that happen, shouldnt have happened but it did, and the economy is coming back. It is coming back strongly. Jobs are setting records for, two months ago they set the record and then give almost 5 million new jobs last month which is a record, and it broke our last record of the month before. So the numbers are happening much faster than anybody anticipated. The stock market, nasdaq just hit another record today and the markets of generally just really a a very small amount below where they were at the height of the market when we first had to do this about four and half, five months ago. Its incredible whats happened. When you look at education, my administration has approved 13 billion for state and local education. We have proved over 6 billion to support colleges and another 6 billion in emergency grants to students, very importantly. We waved standardized testing requirements, defer federal student loan and Interest Payments. So you take a look at the student loan program. We waived student loan and Interest Payments and that is something that people have been hearing about and nobody talks about it but its a big deal. We pioneered new treatments that are dramatically improving the health outcomes. Vaccines are doing well. There peters are doing very well. Well. The Therapeutic Research has been incredible and i think you can have a lot of big things happening long before the end of the year on both vaccines and therapeutics. Therapeutics i guess ill little bit of work we can use for on the way to iq or back they make you better. I need to meet the therapeutic is even more important than the vaccine at this point not because people will get better. But the numbers are, the testing numbers on the highest theyve ever been. Were up to almost 40,000,000 in testing, and 40 million people, which which is unheard of, or more than any other country many times more than any other country and, therefore, we have more cases because we are doing or testing. We have more cases. If we did have the testing would have far fewer cases, but people dont view it that way. What they have to view though is if you look at the chart and maybe mike has it that we look at before, if you look at the chart of deaths deaths are way down. So what we want to do is want to get our schools opened. Want to get them opened quickly, beautifully in the fall, and as you know this is a disease that is a horrible disease, but young people do extraordinarily well. I was with the governor of new jersey. We were talking and he said, and imagine a number which is a very high number, but its a number nevertheless, thousands of people if there was only one person that died that was under 18 years old in the state of new jersey and that somebody i guess had a problem with perhaps diabetes or something else. But one person out of the house the people, one person died who was under 18 years old, so thats Pretty Amazing stat when you think of it. But id like to now just give them mic to our first lady. Shes going to say a few words and then were going to go with mike and karen pence and then google around the room look at, say a few words. Kellyanne, you did a great job the smyrna, thank you, really great. So if i might, first lady, please. Thank you. Good afternoon, everyone. The first pillar of my two best initiative is still well wellg and taking care of children social, emotional and physical health. Its never a more important during the covid19 pandemic. The administration has worked around the clock to protect americans from the coronavirus, but many challenges for children and families can be just as invisible as the virus, and just as dangerous point when children are out of school, they are missing more than just time in the classroom. They are missing the laughter of the friends, learning from those teachers and the joy of recess and play. For children with disabilities, without access to technology or homes are not a safe place, the situation can be even worse. At the start of the school year gets closer, i encourage parents, teachers and schools to teach children about the importance of cdc guidelines and to implement them when appropriate. Childrens Mental Health and social Development Must be as much of a priority as physical health. The same is true for parents. Many will be forced to make stressful choices between caring for their children and going back to work. And we must address those needs as well as their own Mental Health and wellbeing. As we continue to come together as americans to tackle these challenges, im honored that you all be here today to offer up your thoughts. I i look forward to working with you to make sure that americas children and families can be healthy and thriving. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. And governor, thank you. I see you sitting over there. What a job youre doing. Thank you very much for being here. Appreciate it. And thank thank you, melania, y much. We just heard, mike was telling me Governor Desantis did a terrific job if you Just Announced schools will be open in the fall and we hope that most schools are going to be open. We dont want people to make political statement or do it for political reasons. They think will be good for them politically and they keep the schools close on the way. We will keep pressure uncovers inability else to open the schools to get them open and its very important. Its very important for our country. Very important for the wellbeing of the student and the parents. So we will be putting a lot of pressure on open your schools in the fall. Mike, please. Well, thank you, mr. President. And thank you for your leadership. I have seen it day in and day out since usb to lead the White House Coronavirus task force. Todays one more installment in your commitment to make sure that our states and our families have all the resources indeed to meet this moment. Our healthcare workers are provided for but also understanding we had to reopen america and reopen america safely. But we can beat all of these great leaders from around the country today, mr. President , because you know that to open up america again we need to open up our schools again. I do want to thank all those gathered here for the efforts as well. I know i speak of hip of my wife sharon but also want to express our profound gratitude to the first lady speak for myself throughout this pandemic or regard for families, for children, for the emotional impact that this is that on every american is so admiral burke id like to invite anyone to show your appreciation for our first lady and the work she has done. [applause] mr. President , since the moment that we ask the American People to step up to take efforts to slow the spread, and we, in that 15 days the would be, 45 days, we encouraged, we encouraged people to refrain from attending school if possible, to engage in school from home never it was possible. There were two categories if heroes that emerged. One was apparent around america who stepped up as never before and those that are looking on, those that are represented here should know your president , the first family, your Vice President and our second family are grateful for the families of this country and everything you have done to be the teachers for your children, to create the structure at home where they could continue to learn even in a challenging time. I also want to say how grateful we are to the teachers, turkey and i am actually actually sitting next to one who ive been married to two for 35 years. As you know she actually teaches in a local school in the Washington Area a few days a week and i watched her go in and pack up crates of Art Materials that children could come by and pick up and take him to continue their learning. And so id like to invite everybody to show your appreciation for the parents and all the Great Teachers who have done the work of continuing to educate our children throughout this pandemic. [applause] and, mr. President , the American People deserve to know that while we are seeing rising cases across the sample at your direction we are ensuring states have the resources, the support of the supplies and personnel that are actually arriving as we speak in states like texas and florida and elsewhere to relieve healthcare workers, and to your point i hope the American People appreciate the point that you made yesterday on the National Stage and did so again today, and because of what our healthcare workers have done, because of the innovation and the medicines that we been able to make available, literally we have seen the chaldees decline by 90 from some of the worst moment of this pandemic and will continue working each and every day to continue to keep those losses low and steady. We will save lives as we open our country. Today we spoke to the nations governor on the topic of the summit and we reflected on the fact as now 47 governors and the governors of two territories have announced plans to reopen schools across america that its important to do so for a variety of reasons. The first lady to spoke of this. We ought to will be concerned about our children falling behind academically, and theres no substitute for in classroom learning or in Person Learning and thats been much discussed at the summit today. But as the American Academy of pediatrics so well represented here today recently reflected, there are social costs, emotional costs and even physical costs to our children across this country that we spoke to the congress today. Its important we reopen our schools as you have directed for the academic and intellectual development of our children that its also vitally important that we remember as dr. Katz told the governors today that 7 million American Children suffer from either Mental Illness or emotional disturbance, and a principally received the care from health and dental services at their school. And so they can sure we are meeting the mental and emotional needs of our children as well as making advances academically is what brings us here today. The last thing i will say to all those gathered here, mr. President , is from early on you have directed our task force and the cdc to equip families and schools and states with the resources to operate. It was as early as march 12th that cdc issued its first guidance for strategies for school and childcare services. We issued in the middle of may and just last week i am please report the cdc publish new guides for k12 schools and Higher Education regarding the type of testing that is appropriate and other strategies. Mr. President , we can bring our schools back. Next week the cdc is going to issue five new documents, how to prepare communities to return safely, decisionmaking tools for parents and caregivers, symptom screening, School Settings guidance and the rest. We are going to continue to float these resources and guides but as dr. Redfield told all the nations governor today, i do want to acknowledge governor parsons leadership and his presence here today, we are truly grateful, is that, that what you have instructed our task force to do in the cdc to do in this moment is to stay to states around the country to local communities we are here to help. The cdc has issued guidance but that guidance is meant to supplement and not replace state, local, territorial or tribal guidance. In a word, mr. President , you made it clear to us. We dont want to be the reason any school doesnt reopen. So are word to the parents that are looking on, to teachers that are looking on, administrative, leaders in your community, is that we are ready to work with the leaders in your School System at in your state to find a safe and responsible way to reopen your schools. Thats our commitment. Mr. Mr. President , we continue to move out on that, on the belief that to open up america get whipped open up americas schools and the American People are taking important steps every day, including the summit today to do just that. And im truly grateful for all those represented here for being part of this important work. With that id be happy to recognize mrs. Pence for a few comments. Thank you, mr. President. Thank you, mike, and melania. I had the privilege of addressing this Group Earlier today kind of opening up your summit, but i do want to say thank you to all the teachers. I know at my School Everybody quickly learned how to do online teaching. It wasnt something that our teachers across america were familiar with, and i just applaud them. They have worked so hard. And the parents really are the unsung heroes. They really had to quickly get up to speed, it was that easy to do. But you know, our kids are struggling, and they need their friends, and they need their teachers, and indeed their routines. This decision to open up the schools greatly impacts our children. It impacts them academically. It impacts them socially, and it impacts them emotionally. So i applaud what you doing here today, mr. President , because our kids, for the Mental Health and academic health, they need to be back in school, so thank you. Thank you very much, karen. I appreciate it and i see dr. Redfield over in the audience and appreciated at a dont you like to see everybody coming back and getting back to school in the fall, and ive Read Everything youve written at appreciate that very much, doctor. Thanks very much. Appreciate it. Governor, please. Maybe well go around the room real quickly that will go quickly and will get everybody to say a few words and we will start with our governor. Thank you, mr. President. As you said when you come here i am just honored and humbled to be here to stay with you, the Vice President , the first lady of the second lady. Those strange you think that someday, you never imagined them being reality so its an honor to be here today. End up conversation with governors across the state. The Vice President has been almost there for 18 weeks or so. The one thing that was stressed, on those phone calls every week, there are trying to do the best thing for this country. Every day people out there they were trying to make their full support to the governors across the state. I just want to thank you for doing that. And for leaning as what good leaders do in times of crisis. I just want to thank you for that. The present study was 1 foot pressure on the governors, to open these upcoming will tell you this a few phone calls i had with him, he put low pressure on me. I will say that. Sometimes we all need a little push to get things going. What the first lady said when she talked about the kids were so important to me as a grandparent and a father, i sat there and i think of all the kids that need to be in school. There are the ones who have the privilege to go everyday a lot of school kids is a safety blanket. It is a way to get nutrition. Gov. Mike parson and it is a way for people to help them when they cry out for help. And that is the reason why Getting School back open is so important and if you want to take that one step further. In making sure the people will be qualified for the workforce of tomorrow. This virus cannot shut our country down interstate down. We have to deal with it. As we would anything else that we have dealt with in this country. We have to move forward. An economy and the life goes on. Education is part of who we are in kids need to get back to school. Parents need to get more involved in their schools. I heard speakers today speak, it is a part of who we are. It is how we build the future. That is so important. I also wanted think the second lady for giving me inspiration on a couple of key mills we signed in missouri. I want to give you a little credit today. We did full reciprocity in the state of missouri yesterday. Full military reciprocity and the second lady gave me inspiration for that. And also my daughters are a schoolteacher. And most of the time we have a father Daughter Relationship except when it comes to teaching and she becomes a Senior Advisor to the governor. And we talk about those issues on that but again i just want to thank the president for his support. And for our state and the people appreciate it mr. President. I want you to know that. And the first lady for where we are headed in this country. We have gone through hard times before and we will continue to do so. We will be stronger for it. Pres. Trump and you will not be changing the name st. Louis value. Gov. Mike parson no i wont. Good afternoon mr. President. I am delighted to join the first lady and you in the second lady and the Vice President today. My name is doctor sally and im a pediatrician from georgia. I am president of the American Academy of pediatrics. Jonah get much more than an education at school. Being away from peers, teachers, and School Services have lasting effects for children. This will not be easy, pediatricians strongly advocate that we start with the goal of having kids physically present in the school this fall. And of course returning to school must be done safely. You must take measures to keep students teachers and staff safe with flexibility to adapt as needed for the communities regarding the covid19. The evidence of our in a case in children are less likely to have symptoms are severe disease resulting from the coronavirus. Children are less likely to become infected they are less likely to spread infection. We know however, the missing school can have serious consequences for child health and wellbeing. Vertically for students with disabilities or with special healthcare needs. They are in school are more than in the reading and writing and with arithmetic. They also learn social and emotional skills and get healthy mills and exercise and Mental Health support. Schools help identify and address learning deficits, physical abuse, substance use, depression and suicidal ideations. Are all critical reasons to get the children back to school. Reopening schools in a way that maximizes safety, learning and the wellbeing of children will clearly require new investments in our schools. We urge you to ensure that schools receive the resources necessary to the funding does not stand in the way of keeping our children safe or present at school. Thank you mr. President. We look forward to working with you and all of the people around this room. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Please. Thank you wheat appreciate our families and all of the people here in opening up tennessee we know that reopening schools, it reopens our economyd we have great examples where people come together and reschedule so the parents can get back to work and for companies to support multiple regions. Weve been an incredible job with resources. Twenty plus toolkits. Weve opened up professional development for free statewide and online schools. I would also like to think the first lady for her support on child wellbeing. We had a wonderful conversation a couple of weeks ago the task force of these long statewide covering the entire state in making sure that all of our children receive a high quality Public Education as well as being served in terms of nutrition, transportation etc. It i will end by saying as a proud daughter of a Police Officer and teacher, i was raised safety and highquality education being fundamentals in my home. And is a great honor to be able to reinforce that with the schools today. Thank you. Pres. Trump thank you. Thank you mr. President. Really, thanks to the historic response to the president has led in this unprecedented a pandemic. We have the tools we can reopen in our workplace. We can reopen our schools and we can reopen healthcare. We have got the tools. When we think about kids and schools, the school for our children as a center of so much of their life. It is where they get healthcare, it is where the get Mental Health care. It is where many of them get nutrition. It is where mandatory reporting of child abuse and sexual abuse, happens most often because of the nature of the reporting requiring it is mandatory. In addition to the social physical and intellectual develop meant that the kids need from a physical setting and schools. We are in a very different place now than we were two or three months ago. In the worlds most robust Testing Systems with close to 40 million tests having it done. We have Health System capacity and personal protective equipment to enable us to work through these outbreaks that we have and we are missing a therapeutics as the president said that we now have medicine for hospitals. In steroids for lung a listen on ocelot to treat in defendant would enter individuals. In the president made a cap Million Dollar investment that if successful and approved, could deliver hundreds of thousands of doses as early as late summer or early fall. We have three vaccine candidates and just this morning and invested 1. 6 billion and a fourth vaccine candidate that could deliver hundreds of millions of doses this fall and into early next year. Alex azar it is just a very different circumstances then we have ever had before. We know more about this virus, and the mortality rate is going down because we are better at taking care of patients with the virus. Our fatality case rate in the United States is among the lowest if not the lowest in the developing world right now. We can reopen our schools safely with what we know. It is really simple practices, common sense, social distancing, is wearing face coverings and youre in a setting that you cant social distance. And it is practicing good personal hygiene. The tools are there to prevent us. And to protect our teachers and staff. In the time to do it is now. Pres. Trump thank you and good luck with all of the therapeutics. I know that youre getting very close. That would be an incredible. What are your chances early like in september. Alex azar almost half a billion dollar funding without one, they are one of the most advanced that we have. We have several antibody products that basically take that convalescent recovered patients would donate and bioengineered that an effectively unlimited supplies that we can do. So is a cocktail of multiple and by the give your immune system and immediate defense and we are studying it both from preventing disease as well as stopping the progression of the disease. So is very exciting. Pres. Trump it is a basically, sort of the abcs of what we are doing. In seems to be working. They say it does work. Alex azar will you have the initial trial work that the general and in this way were investing in the Late Stage Development of it and we have these other three therapies thanks to your leadership. We now have so many more tools than we had three months ago in terms of therapeutics. We dont want anyone to get sick. And we have much better ways to take care of individuals now than we did three months ago. Pres. Trump that is very exciting. We will hold it to you. September. [laughter]. You to. Please and thank you. Good afternoon. Im patrick daly, st. Paul high school in california. In sonoma county. I just wanted say what an honor this is to be here this afternoon. I want to thank you and think the first lady. The Vice President danced in the second lighting and for the leadership of our country. Really during a very difficult time. It is very important to me. And being the father for kids, three daughters and a son. It is very important. We plan on opening. That is a focus. I think that we have put a plan together that is working document. And with all of the safety precautions and in place to make sure the st. Vincent depaul opens on all of the guidelines are recommended. I think that as you stated earlier, this should never be political quite i think at times, it has been come very political and many School Systems throughout our United States, and probably particularly in california. So we are very excited about the possibilities of the fall. And we have three plans one of them being the reopening which we plan on august 10th. In the hybrid plan which is two days on when they often todays backend. And as i mentioned earlier, god forbid if we had to do the distance learning. I just dont think it is beneficial to boys and girls 14 and 18 years of age accordingly i feel for the parents. Of the Elementary School children. Theyre trying to work and provide for the families and at the same time, having to stay at home and teach. It is very difficult. I heard that a lot from her own Elementary School. I cant thank you enough for your leadership of our country. And thank you for the summer. Pres. Trump good luck with your planning getting them open. I know you want to be able to do that. So thank you very much. [silence]. Hello mr. President. Im a student at st. Vincents in high school. I personally want to thank you for both inviting me in helping to reopen schools. Coming on behalf of the students. It really means a lot just to be able to get back out into our Emotional Health in our Mental Health just to be out there with our friends. Because a lot of us do not have an opportunity. It helps reopen our schedules so that we have something to look forward to. Me, ive run by a schedule. Im make a schedule for myself. I just want to thank you very much for getting us back to that. Pres. Trump great job. Thank you very much and we will get you back. We will get you back very soon. Kelly and predict. Thank you very much. I am reminded why we are here. On this very important topic a boy we are here at this administration. I believe the hallmark of the Trump Administration has been a success and extending opportunity safety and welfare wellbeing for the forgotten child. In the forgotten child has a new meaning during this Global Pandemic between the first and third weeks of march, this year. Just about 100 percent of our schools across this country, of all ages there were taken out of the schools and stuck at home. We saw few things happen, many of which have been spoken about today. I will add one more. The Digital Divide was laid there in that so many of our students cannot access basic Digital Assets to allow them to confidently and competently do their school work and to learn to thrive. The schools are essential nervous system because our students are the heart. And soul of our nation. And so today your message mr. President and mr. Vice president , that all children matter and our mission is to make sure that all children can safely and securely answer the places of learning very soon. This is also impacted our economy and to have a soft spot for single moms having to be raised by one, there are single moms who are disproportionally impacted to their job security, their wage earnings and most of them are not in jobs for which they can telecommute. So we are creating pandemics within this pandemic. The good news is, our children are at low risk for transmission even if they are at high risk for maladies visible and invisible. The great news is that we safely reopener schools, we are in keeping with so much of your agenda mr. President and mr. Vice president and to preserve and expand Educational Opportunities to respect the dignity of all students and respond to the individual needs of all of the students like expanding the charters and educational freedoms. In opportunities and scholarships allowing them to have more options as they go through their lives beginning with the quality and the solid education. The president has said, if we as a nation and went to world wars, the panama canal, but a man on the moon, we certainly ought to be able to deliver a quality education to each child. And having is with reopening our schools and making good on that promise to each and every one of them. Take you very much. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Hi mr. President. Thank you and thank you missus trump and mr. Vice president and missus pence having me here today. Why am with the patriots, have also a mom and my children are sitting right over there. Thank you for having us here today. Mr. President , you were right and i hope you will trust your instinct. America is not meant to be shut down. We have to reopen schools this fall. I have been in touch with almost 1000 doctors from around the country. Help doctor simone, spearheaded a letter to you signed by 800 physicians and surgeons who talk about the side effects of the lockdowns. And a second letter with over 150 doctors, 240 nurses, 330 educators, 70 National Groups and thousands of parents and concerned americans who want to seek schools reopened. Reopening schools is going to stabilize our society. I think if the number one most important thing that we can do to stabilize our society from top to bottom. Whether it is in a local community, just reestablishing calendars was churches, nonprofit groups, traffic patterns, people who dont have children, care about the calendar for the schools. Kindergarten nurse and Elementary School students simply cannot learn looking at a zoom screen. We wouldnt need schools the first place of the good. We could just pop them in front of the television. Last place in the world that a middle School Student need to be is on line on supervised by adults. They bully each other when theyre in front of teachers. You can imagine whats going on with social media right now. Young adults and high School Students, are losing hope and optimism for the future. In february, they had so much and now we turn on the television we can see the disruption that that lack of hope and optimism is costing. Employers have to rebuild their companies. They need employees and a hundred and 10 percent to be able to do that. We did everything we could to flatten the curve and we have to roll up our sleeves now and rebuild our companies. But we cant do that when employees are dividing their time between taking care of their children and definitely for who knows how long. And trying to get the job done. I have one employee who has five children. His wife is a dental hygienist. Im granting him as much as i can which is easy to do. He is a wonderful employee. I cant even imagine what it would be like to have five children and all of a sudden have to homeschool them all. It is not a been homeschooling. It is helping them with digital learning, homeschool parents have asked that we are careful about not inflating the two. For me, i am a single mom now. In 2007, i was went through the financial crisis. My then husband, business failed. The lesser house, lesser powers, we lost everything. I cleaned houses to help make ands meet. Ive done Everything Possible to rebuild. I know with those families who are now unemployed are facing. Trying to divide their time between taking care of the children not knowing their children are going to be educated in figuring out what theyre going to do with her life. It is an credibly difficult and for people who think but we can just work at home or were essential. It sends the wrong message. Everything a person in this country is essential. We are the United States of america. Every one of us is essential. Every one of us is important. Everything a family can afford a computer so their children can be online. At the same time for wifi scallion was just talking out about to be able to do simple at the same time. So families are suffering the education and education is suffering as well. As a single mom, this situation is ripping me into. You cannot be in two places at once. Physically or mentally. And during the very very best i can to take care of my children, their father when theyre living with her father, he does a great job taking care of them. But when they are with me, im doing your thing i can to take care of them, help them prepare for their senior year of high school, makeup, prom, dealing with whatever else we have to do with from the shutdowns. And when a company at work. It is impossible. It is impossible to do what we need to do. Since the schools must be reopened. It will stabilize our country. I cannot thank you enough for doing this today. In sending this message. And the doctors who i have been working with, they want to do anything they can to help calm this fear that is permeating our country. They understand we have to have a of a respect for the virus and we have to be able to live our lives. They and i will do anything we can help you with that. Thank you very much. Pres. Trump it looks like you are doing a good job. Is your mother doing a good job. She good. You said the right thing. Okay, great job and thank you very much. Mr. President , first lady, Vice President , second lady. On behalf of tenancy, i want to enqueue for all of the help and resources that you and our administration have provided this brief human accessible and responsible. That means the world to us in the state of tennessee and we are trying to your jobs. I am the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of health. Also pediatrician and a mother of four. And i know very clearly that education and Economic Prosperity are key drivers of health. We know in tennessee, the kids have to get back to school and parents have to get back to work. It is paramount for our economy, and it is paramount for the health of our nation. But we are doing our part in tennessee for that effort. Thank you. Pres. Trump thank you and say hello to bill. Thank you. Mr. President , first lady Vice President and second lady. Today, it was a really terrific day because it took him children to put them in the center. And said this is not going to be a unilateral, and you focal, onedimensional discussion. About the covid19. But a discussion that transcended that single moment in front of the other issues of Mental Health. An academic health, Emotional Health, and really said that its important to the whole child to have the availability of schooling. I think that having that discussion, that is multidimensional and having teachers here and students here, and Health Commissioners here was that and the secretaries here, was very helpful because not only for the child in the center but also made it clear about how important these other issues are that are beyond covid19. In the health and welfare of our children. This discussion was terrific and i think we have a way forward. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Thank you mr. President so much for these events. Thank you for including me in todays event. I want to thank you and the Vice President , the first lady in the second lady. For your comments and for all the concern you have had for the education of our children. I come today is apparent, as an ob gyn physician and is the managing partner of malpractice. This has been very scary but also very enlightening experience to have walkthrough. That is been quite the challenge and i will say quite the challenge. For the first thing that i want to say it is so important to get her children back in school. Our Higher Education, are high school and middle School Students are so embedded in social media already. What they need that social interaction with each other and with adults. Because without that, i fear what our society is going to look like. The preservation of society is reliant upon the interaction of these children day to day and facetoface with each other. I also saw the anxiety of my youngest child here today with me. I thought her anxiety when she came home from college, the anxiety of not knowing how her education would continue. In trying to set the zoom meeting to try to make it happen but more importantly, having the opportunity those in person tutorials for that in personal relationship with the professors to complete her courses. I think our courses suffer because of it. She is a good student and was a dramatic but i can only imagine what it was like for other students. My oldest child had a learning disability. And to try and bring him home and do this education on mine without than in person benefit and without the tutors, being their present would have been a disaster for his now very good career. I just fear for that student especially. And as we go back to school, i think it is very important that we also educate these kids because they sometimes to rise above it and feel as though they dont have the mortality for the morbidities on the problem of interaction with each other. We they will have new family units. My daughter will be in an apartment with three other girls. They will be the new family units. It is important that we educate them for that so that when they come on, they realize their elders, their grandparents, they are val and the ball in the family unit has changed. But we can do this we can teach us. Then they have learned that this that is important that we have to reinforce this at the College Level to keep an on going as a priority. I know that we can do it. I know the other thing is a physician im a strong believer in spurred immunity and what im not proposing is that we put all of her students in the big bass and only those survival of the fittest come out. I do think it is important to stop this tremendous isolation that keeps the virus in the winter. We need to get out and have the vaccine to help us and we need to have the interaction to help get that immunity so we can protect are vulnerable. Only can protect are elderly and those younger folks from morbidities because we as a society, is immune to the virus, we can put it back into its place. And finally, i just want to again thank you for being here and hearing me out. And thank you for putting education of our children in the utmost and for putting our economy in that place two. Because as a business owner, what i have parents who have to come late or leave early order to educate their children and yet run the business at the same time. It is incredibly difficult if not impossible. We want to maintain the jobs and maintain their work ethic. But we also want to maintain the intelligence of their children and of our future. As our thank you again for your interest in this and for letting us be here. Thank you. Pres. Trump i think it is important to note that we have done it right. We have closed up. We were amazing the way our great citizens adhere to what we wanted to do. We save millions of lives. And now we want to reopen. We understand the disease much better, nobody knew what this was. Nobody had ever seen it before. It has been nothing like this since 1917. That was more than 100 years ago. But we saved tens of thousands of lives. Hundreds of thousands of lives. Now we are open. And now we want to stay open and we will stay open. We will not close. We will put out the fires as they come out. We call the members and fires in whatever you want to call them. I think it is very important to note what we have done, we have saved it literally hundreds of thousands of lives. I was going over numbers before with the Vice President and if you look at the million, 2 million, two and a half million, those are all reasonable numbers to what we couldve had. Then right now we are the numbers you know, far lower than that. What would you say we are mike today. Vice pres. Mike pence about a hundred and 30000. Pres. Trump and we could be way over a million right now. I think it couldve been two and a half or 3m people. But now we are open and we understand the vulnerable. We understand who has the biggest problem with it and we watch that group in that age group and also people who are feeling so well and particularly with certain diseases. Diabetes is bad, tar spent, we watch very closely. And we have done it right. When you look at what happened in sweden. I kept hearing about sweeting. The herd concept of opening up and keeping open, all of a sudden it exploded. If you look at what is going on in brazil and a couple of other places. But now it is time to reopen and to stay open. And we will put out the fires as they come up but we have to open our schools. It is so important to open our schools. And what from what you said, im a psychological standpoint with respect to staying home any longer, you cant do it. That is great to dangerous also. So that is where we are pretty remote closing. We will never you have certain areas that will have difficulty and they will do when they have to do. And largely to the governors but also there in very strong consultation with us. We are supplying them with tremendous materials. In gowns and masks anything that destiny. They should be doing it themselves but a lot of governors look very good. And some that look very smart that were so smart some of just done a very good job right from the beginning. I could grade them from one to 50. You would be amazed. You would be so surprised at some of of them both good and bad. But i think you very much for your remarks i think it is very important what you said. Please. It. Mr. President , first lady, mr. Vice president , and to represent the great state of indiana. Animate that community college, we are indianas community college. Once hundred and 60000 students across our great state. And i want to remind you as we talk about Higher Education the true workforce engine that Community Colleges from our nation and how important they are and the students that we serve. Salome read just a little bit. We dont serve as much of the 16 and 18 yearolds. But we do have many traditional students. Is often the single mothers that we heard about. Twentynine and 30 yearolds and beyond. Coming back parttime. And how important it is that they have access to community college. There also typically the lower income, our first generation students are students of color. Those who really do you have the opportunity for th american dre. So this is incredibly important to run. We have been virtual, we were virtual the summer and as of monday, where doing Completion Academy on campus to ensure that those nurses and welders and all the named the handson, the last courses that they can be out there joining americans new jobs that are coming and being part of a strong economy. We have appreciated the great support, the cares act, all that. We will operate. We will be facetoface. We will be highbred it, we wont be online and we will be virtual. And for single moms, we wont even learning anywhere. It means that they can decide which week if they can come on campus or be virtual or be a synchronous. We know we have to change. To meet the needs but we appreciate the great support of this administration. I we will continue to work on behalf of ensuring that this economy has the workforce and success that it needs going forward. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Thank you mr. President. University of alabama system. It includes the university of alabama, you ah an Academic Medical Center at uab. Its an honor to be here and i appreciate your hosting this. When this pandemic started and we had to send all of our students home for universities, many of us were afraid to be the destruction of Higher Education for all time. They would learn that they could learn as well on the computer from home as they would on the campuses. One think this is taught is that we are not worried about that anymore. Our students are yearning to come back to campus. They want to be there. It is reaffirmed, the value of oncampus instruction at our institutions of higher learning. Thus mother board of trustees committed to returning this fall and all three of our campuses. Two in person instruction. Realizing that we cannot eliminate all risk but we can reduce risk and manage risk in a way that allows us to go forward. So early on, we look to the medical experts at ua be in the researchers, the scientists and the doctors there. To try to come up with a plan to make our campuses as safe as possible and as safe as any in the country. Weve got a fourpart program that allows us to do that. The first and we believe this, try to have all of our tent students tested before they come to campus. Before they return not after. So those who need isolation, can do that at home and we can begin the school year. And second, our folks and all three of our campuses have developed a sefton tracking app that is used on the phone. It takes 20 seconds to sign up for. In ten seconds over two or three days to follow up on to track symptoms may also have a program to trace contacts. They will allow us to manage student outbreaks during the year. And last, a single testing resemble Testing Program throughout the rest of the school year. But this does not only we hope allow us to reopen our schools, but to keep them open. Thats going to be the hardest part. I want to thank you and the Vice President for the assistance. That we have received through these federal programs. Without those, we wouldve been very difficult for our centers to continue and for our campuses to make it through these difficult times and to allow us to have testing in place. We promise to do our best to provide this essential service to her students enter civic citizens and we greatly appreciate this assistance that you have given us. Pres. Trump inc. You very much. Its a great place in a great state pretty you are right about something, if we have learned anything, the computer will never replace the campus. They thought it would for a while but it didnt. After about two weeks we figured out that it is much better way to have it the oldfashioned way. Great statement. Thank you. Thank you mr. President and missus trump. Mr. Vice president and missus pence, im a third grade teacher right here in washington. I believe mr. Vice president you mentioned some heroes. Certainly i agree with you as a parent, i could not have done this without at home without the Community Appearance that we have. I guess the teachers are heroes in their own life. I really believe that the real heroes here are the students. And they plug along the rest to the occasion in fact one of my students is here today read that is why i am here. They showed incredible resilience and spirit in all of the gifts that god has given them. I really believe that the children are our future as a know that you do. And i think they are what is truly going to make America Great again. So i want them to be back in school in the fall. Thank you part in it. Pres. Trump thank you. We agree. Thank you. Mr. Trump, mr. President , and first lady, Vice President pence and missus pence. First i want to let you know that i pray for you daily all four of you. I cannot imagine the burdens on your shoulders. And i know that is only through god read that you can handle that. Pres. Trump it is not easy. I so appreciate this. I am the president of our school board in the great state of ohio. And we are very actively working to get our children back in school fulltime altogether. As safe as possible. We are fortunate that we have a lot of resources that we are able to do that. My biggest concern and i hope through your leadership, we will not have overregulation at the local level. And we keep from being able to accomplish their goals. My biggest fear is that we will get everybody back and we will get into a routine and then beat us of regulation, that we would have to close back down. And its a very big concern, that would be such a destruction on top of a destruction. So that is probably my biggest concern. Im also very happy to hear that the university of alabama has made that school and to college athletes. And with what is happened without Higher Education level, has been distribute discrepant o their senior year intern chips were canceled. It was a scary time. Its a scary time anyway on a good day. So i really hope that her Higher Education institutes will make some decisions there. And really im just honor to be here. I appreciate you so much what all of you have done. However we can help, please dont hesitate to ask for it. Pres. Trump thank you and will alabama be playing some great football. What is going on with alabama. Mr. President , is not the first time that we have earned that i can promise you. [laughter]. We are planning for the season. At the university of alabama. Understand that that creates great difficulties and complexities how we are hoping for that. It is important to a lot of people and we are doing our best on that one too. Pres. Trump say hello to the coach, great coach. Yes sir. Easter president , i dont know about alabama, but the university of miami will be playing. [laughter]. I am Johnny Taylor as you know. And your appointee. I want to servicing thank you. I remember being right across the hallway in 2017 when you appointed me to be your advisor. On the board of advisors. Frankly there were people who questioned whether or not anything would really come of that. If you are really committed. I remember visiting with the Vice President. In the room just across the hall actually knew met with 60 almost 70, are historically black colleges. And they came to visit and you welcomed us. I remember meeting the secretary. Early on and it was all this commitment to us and frankly, they said they didnt think that you would make good on and you did. So let me start by thanking you. Thank you for remaining committed to the countrys 101 historically black colleges and universities. And allowing me to be the chairman on the board that advises you collectively on hbcus. So thank you. Listen, you have done great so far and since 2017, every year our budget has increased. But not financially only put the true support of our institution. And today this is another example of your support of this to the black colleges and universities. Thats giving us a safe space to return safely to campuses. We need to bring out students back because frankly, without these institutions, many of our communities, our fragile communities will suffer in ways that people just cannot quite put their arms around. There are three things that i want to drop quickly. First online education. While it is wonderful, it is not as good as the person education. In the Higher Education space. In our students, many of them who come from the most fragile of communities, and many of them to get high quality secondary education. But when they get to the post secondary state, many teachers need to look across avenue the assistance. And we need to encourage these colleges to open so that their students can get the best education the truly good experiences that the american burn. And the economic drive, and in many of these communities the are the largest employer. In the kind enough to create opportunity zones but schools shutting down, theres not much opportunity going on so we need the schools to be open. So that we can get the surrounding community and go back to work. A lot of those businesses are struggling if we set this campuses down in the penguins struggling for a significant amount of time. Its also just smart business. And then finally, the entire country right now, engage in a discussion around racial tension. And the need for diversity. Corporate america, wants us to do something about it. While they played outside role in helping solve their problem. Historically, it was created disproportionately black leaders, teachers, doctors, lawyers, judges, etc. For more than 101 schools should be. Theyre actually punching about their weight. And therefore, for going to commit to longterm, to addressing racial inequities and issues from discrimination in our country, they have to be a part of that rating you do that by giving these kids the faculty members in these administrators back to work. So on behalf of the country, as an american, as a father of a ten yearold little girl pointed thank you for the commitment to get our schools back in our children back safely. So they can learn and have a good experience and have it makes variance of the american dream. Pres. Trump thank you and i dont think how much we have done for the black colleges and universities. We have done more than any administration in history. And nobody knows that. But maybe they will find out eventually. They will find out but thank you very much and if we it very much. Please predict. From pennsylvania, seventh grade science teacher. Thank you very much president for being here and doing all of this. First lady, mr. Pence, and i really really want to thank karen pence for selling all of my information i had written down. [laughter]. This morning, and then she did it again after i wrote the new step down. [laughter]. So i appreciate it. No, i will keep this short and sweet. We are ready to go back. We literally are ready to go backward in our students. My three kids at home want to go back. It is time. Just like your economy, a great economy ever in the history of the world. I appreciate that pretty, the moment of whats going, we did the same thing to our students last year, the momentum, they were rolling. They were of well oiled machine and then all of a sudden, he had to throw it in park. And we just had to change gears a little bit this year, that is one thing you can do but to throw it in park again. I dont like that. Pres. Trump thank you and you are right. Thank you very much pretty. Thank you mr. President. Domestic policy keep ross is here and listen to everyone, i am struck. I dont know that the world understands but i think it is so important, we have a president it was arguably one of the most successful businessman in the history of our country. The first lady who has been spent her time and talent and extraordinary skill and focusing on the wellbeing of children. We have a Vice President is one of the most successful governors in the history of our country and we have a second lady who has a career as focused on being in a teacher and educator. This is the dream team. I dont know that they will ever be another Leadership Team like the four of you to lead this country back to even Greater Heights and it was ever before. In march of this year, 75 Million Students lives and the families lives were offended when they were sent home. 75 million. Just a couple of months later, here we are in the east room of the white house with some of the countrys greatest educators, leaders and teachers, hv cu leaders coming together to figure out how to get the schools reopened at how to do it in a safe way and how to do it only put Children First and the good news, i am so glad to see the American Pediatrics Society is here. Understanding now that i think an analysis the five studies recently showed that the preponderance of evidence indicates the children are most likely to be symptomatically they have severe disease or be really susceptible and transmit covid19. For the beginning on june 27t june 27th, coolidge children accounted for only 1. 3 percent of covid19 related hospitalizations. The evidence is showing that it really is time for these kids to get back to school. But it really is about the Mental Health, the wellbeing and the Emotional Wellbeing of these kids. But also focusing on in this blessing i will say, the forgotten americans of the knowledgeable americans who are most susceptible to the ravages of would happens if we dont get kids back to school we dont get kids and lives back to normal. As the mother of a fifth grader, centimeter and an eighth grader and a grader. Theres no doubt in my mind representing all of the moms in this country, that we would really love our kids to get back to school. But is about so much more than that. Despite the wellbeing and safety and Economic Prosperity of the country and having this dream team and the secretaries here and this country needs no we are fighting every single day for every american and to ensure that we can reopen safely and its done in the proper way. So thank you mr. President. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Please. It is an honor to be here representing for the schools and georgia prayed for about 30 miles north of atlanta. Sir 52000 students in our School System. We are ready to go. We are going to open our doors on august 6th grade women planning and preparing all summer. We will have guidelines in place. Im really proud of our teachers and their students how well they have performed a spring. As everyone has said this morning, our students need to be back in school and we will be prepared on august 6th. I will assure you of that. Pres. Trump that is good. Thank you very much. Thank you mr. President , thank you for your leadership in for convenience here for this vital Conversation Party is clear nations schools must fully reopen. And fully operate the school year. Anything short of that, students, not to mention taxpayers, and their futures represents our nations future. Since not a question of if, is a question of how. Betty good discussion today on how to ensure schools reopened in education continues in ways to keep students and teachers healthy and safe. Under the president strong leadership, our economy is going back. Our schools must do the same. This is the moment for american educators to rise and meet the needs of every student. Students can afford to fall further behind. Even before the virus, too many were trapped in schools that dont meet their needs. So this is the time to reopen schools. To rethink schools. To be more nimble, and more agile and more responsive to students needs and 21st century changing world. This moment demands action. Unexcused making, or fear mongering. We have done whatever it takes before. As kelly and said earlier in his you have often said mr. President , we have one world war and we have reduced the berlin wall to rubble and thanks you, we have succeeded isis. And with grit, determination and grace, we can do whats right for all students and ensure they are back in school. Thank you. Pres. Trump thank you very much. I appreciate it and that was very nice. Good afternoon and thank you. It is an honor to be here. My name is nicole and i at the Florida Agricultural university in tallahassee as well as college in miami florida. As you both well know, our school closed. In many ways pandemic accelerated trajectories that we were already on to use technology to expand services and programs to students. It is not been easy. Ive actually had the pleasure of teaching a class and the summer at the university of miami. I thought all of the faculty and staff who had to pivot on the dime and provide the services to students. Florida is going to open and were going to invite all of our students back in the fall. And this decision based on a survey that found that only one third in with the students would likely stay if we chose to remain remote online for the fall. Students would choose either better Online Options for the options to closer to home or more costeffective measures. Civic do, and we are going to reopen. I think there are obviously concerns feet away. Of remain virtual, enrollment concerns, Student Engagement concerns. And if we open, we have to be very cognizant about health and safety and liability concerns as well as the cost associated with reopening. We are there and got very thankful for the care zach. For the allegations for testing and tracing and sanitation. And that will be a recurring cost going forward. The pandemic dispels the myth that Higher Education can change on the job. Constitutions are having ppe, expanding virtually online that we couldnt do. Our strings are creating caps. And i hope that we encourage those animations to continue. After we return to a new normal. Provide high quality doesnt Time Services to accommodate our Students Preferences and their schedules. So thank you. Pres. Trump . Thank you very much. Please. Thank you mr. President , first lady and mr. Vice president and missus pence for the honor of being here today. My name is Delaney Mcdonald on the student trustee at middle Tennessee State university. I was homeschooled all of my life rated by choice not because of a pandemic. So i really understand what people have been going through. In the fellowship at tmc, is the highest academic scholarship given to any coming freshman. I was heavily involved on campus actually served as a student body president as well. So i know the extreme importance that the campus environment has on students success. My fellow students across the nation have lost a lot this year. It is important to all of us to safely return to campuses this fall. My university has done an exceptional job of updating the students and reassuring them they are tirelessly working for our safe return to campus. And im honored to be here today to be included in this discussion excited to take the what i have learned to mice fellow student body. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Good afternoon. President , first lady, Vice President , second lady, and i will brag on her, she is a great student. On the president of middle Tennessee State. We attract the best and the brightest. In the state of tennessee but also from around the United States. I would like all of the participants here this afternoon, i am honored to be a part of this very important conversation regarding the reopening of schools and colleges and universities. For the past 20 years i have served the president of this Great Institution we have 37 miles southeast of national. At the university was established in 1911. And we are one of the largest undergraduate universities in the state of tennessee. But grown tremendously over the years and we are proud to be one of the preston review 2020 and 300 plus best universities in the United States of america. Weve done incredible things there at the university. 22000 students, very diverse student body 38 percent of our freshman first generation and we are proud of that. And 40 percent are low income. Part a bridge act scores is one of the highest in the state of tennessee. Where mangy comprehensive university. In each year, the state of tennessee, we produce more degrees than any university, 5000 each year mtsu produces. Thus our highlights. Of our decision up to reopen. We stepped out. We were the very First University in the state of tennessee to announce we are going to reopen for the fall. In person classes. But in reality, we never closed. Because of the nature of our students population, many of our students have nowhere to go. When a lot of schools closed down. So we kept our Residence Hall open. We kept our cafeterias and we provided service obviously taking into consideration the virus. And so we feel that we have the experience, actually operating the university in a pandemic. We regard the health and safety of our students and our employees as a priority. Its really interesting, as we were making this decision, we have a very active parents facebook page. Sometimes too active. [laughter]. Went very active student body facebook page. So we surveyed that freedom we surveyed our parents and students and we asked them, their feelings about returning. And what they were, the vast majority of both her parents and her students from that survey indicated to us that they would want our university to be open. So my executive team, made these decisions including the doctor of our Health Center rated we decided we were going to put together a plan that would make our parents and our students, confidence, we cant guarantee anything with the virus but we felt if we communicate with them and play the medication plan together i have to my college here from the state of tennessees and my University Meeting last week. She brought her staff down it would put together a very strong mitigation plan that gives testing, contact tracing, and isolation and quarantine if needed. For our students. Let me just give a brief overview of how the kids, really help our university mr. President. As we look at pivoting from in person to online and remote, they always had a Strong Technology operation. But we needed to build a stronger one that would provide the quality education. So we invested 6. 9 million, 3. 4 of the 6. 9 came from the cares act. This investment, allowed us to put the newest Instructional Technology to facilitate teaching and learning at the university. What is that mean. It means that regardless of where our student is, each and every single class at our university is not be captured electronically and is going to be archived. And students will be able to access those lectures at any time. Anywhere. And that means that the student, they can attend to a sick parent if they have to do they cant make it to class, theyre not going to be disadvantaged as a result of this technology. And so we believe that in his in the best interest of our students to open up and provide top quality education and we feel that our students and our universities provided were hundred and 59 laptops. Free laptops for our students. 673 internet hotspots. Three. For faculty, 101 laptops, 235. So i close with this. We must understand the demographics. We must understand our community. And indeed we must understand some of the challenges that we are going to type face in Higher Education. And because of the demographics of our student population. We have worked very hard to address the issue of the desperate and disproportionate, minorities and people of color and low income that are being affected by this virus. And so we have partnered with one of the sororities, and they have put together an incredible package of information that will be given out to our students. Thank you so much for having us and we look forward to this conversation. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Great job too. So i want to thank everybody. And i want to say good opening in the fall. We want to see schools lofgren 20 be a much Better Climate than it is right now. On the right side of things. I think we can say that. A lot of work has been done. We understand what we are doing, were doing very well. Again, mortality rates are in lowest in anywhere in the world. We want to get this done. I want to get our country going again. Economically, we are doing well and we want to do well with the education. I see where harvard asked that they are closing for the season. Or maybe for the year. I think it is ridiculous. I think it is an easy way out. I think they ought to be ashamed of themselves of the want to know the truth. I noticed that today. And probably others are doing that. That is called the easy way out. I dont know if people are helping them find against their endowments is plenty big. They dont have any problems with that. Thats not what we want to do because its very important to so many of the parents and instructors as they said today, it is so important that the children at this age together, that they are together campus. That is what we are striving for. We will be very strong on that. Well be very powerful in that view. If we want our schools open and fall. Tomorrow im meeting with the president of mexico. I said that to the media because this going to be quite a meeting. His good friend. Ive a great relationship with mexico. So we will be meeting tomorrow. Thank you all very much. Thank you very much. And gratulations everybody. Reporter . [inaudible]. [inaudible]. [background sounds]. [background sounds].
