Justice reform, Opportunity Zones in funding to historically black colleges and universities. This ones a halfhour. Thank you very much. We are with friends of mine and members of the africanamerican community. We are going to be talking about law enforcement, education, business and various other things. As you know, tomorrow we are going to dallas and we are going to start our rallies back up now. We have had a tremendous run of rallies. I dont think theres been an empty seat since we came down the escalator. With the first lady, future first lady at that point, and its been an amazing thing to behold. We will be starting the rallies and the first one we believe will be probably in oklahoma, tulsa, oklahoma. A beautiful new venue and looking forward to it. Theyve done a great job with covid as you know, oklahoma. We will do a big one in florida and texas. We will be going to arizona, North Carolina. The governor is a little backward and a little bit behind, and unfortunately we are going to probably be having no choice but to move the pickup convention divvied coke convention to another location but we have no choice. We wanted to stay and go to North Carolina very badly. Its a great state. Many friends and relatives that lived there. We will see how it all works out, but the governor doesnt want to give an inch. What hes doing is losing hundreds of millions of dollars for his state, but we will probably have no other recourse but to move it to another state. We have a lot of states that want it, texas, georgia, florida, many states. But weve given them everything we can. North carolina, special place, but i think we will end up giving an announcement pretty soon. We are doing well in so many ways. You see what is going on. We just broke another record yesterday. Good news came out of the Federal Reserve today. We are really doing a financial comeback. The jobs numbers were fantastic. Now we will have some other job numbers in the next few the end we will see how that goes, but i think its really good and we are on our way to a big comeback. Id like to ask some of the folks i met today to say a few words. Theyve been supporters and friends of mine. They understand the life. They understand i think the black Community Better than anybody i know, and i will tell you ben carson is an example of exactly what im talking about. Hes been my friend from the first day we met. We were opponents, but we were never really opponents. Hes a very exceptional guy and hes done a fantastic job. But i would like to maybe start with demand go to darrell. Thank you, mr. President. We are here to talk about some of the concerns in the black community that have risen to a point that people all around the world are making their voices heard. This is an opportune time to do something about it, because this administration has already established a record of actually solving problems that other people have just talked about. I am delighted, mr. President , that youve made it a priority to solve this problem. We are going to be helping with the process. There are some who wait for anything but to criticize it. But there are some people that want to see a solution and it had a chance to talk with many of them and will continue to do that and put forth the kind of programs that actually get people out ogetspeople out of pt things that just keep people stable in poverty. And happy in poverty. We want to change that whole dynamic. And i think some of the things that have already been done we will get back to those quickly. This was an intentional stopping of the economy, and amazing economy. The fundamentals are still in place. We will recoup that and move further on. Your philosophy of course has been devising tied and you dont spend a lot of time with identity politics. We want everybody to be successful and we will do everything we can to help that. I think that the economy next year will be maybe the best its ever been. You can already see it with the stock market how its been going up. Theres a lot of smart people betting on exactly what im saying. The stock market is almost the size it was prior to the plate floating in from china. Now they are learning it may have been much earlier which bears out exactly what ive been saying. We saw that yesterday that it may have come in a lot sooner than we were told. A friend of mine is darrell scott, and hes a great guy and has tremendous heart. At the same time, hes a tough cookie. Please say a few words. We are here today and thank you for allowing us to come. Our nation is at a juncture where we are facing another challenge. But this administration has become used to challenge us. Its been one after another. We press pause, but we are ready to press play now and continue in the positive initiatives weve gotten in the black community. Mr. Trump called me in november of 2016, right after the election and he said to me what you want. I said what do you want and he said youve been working hard. I said i would like to speak [inaudible] we have worked on criminal Justice Reform, prison reform, a number of initiatives that are proactive towards the black community, and here we are now facing another challenge and we will come up with Great Solutions to these problems that are confronting the country and im just glad to have a seat at the table and to have my input be heard. Your input is very important. You know that. And its true. Ive known him a long time. All he wanted was to have a voice so he could make certain positions known, and hes done it very well, better than anybody i can think of. Another great voice in the black community is wayne. Youve been my friend for a long time. Wayne duprey has shown Great Success and people respect and listen to what you have to say. Go ahead, please. Inet president of trump when he was a businessman, as a matter of fact he had given me five interviews, two of them in person and three of them on the phone. When you are talking about somebody that isnt with the mainstream media, somebody that just has a small boys and a voia desire to make changes to this voice to reach out to a billionaire in new york and without hesitation, he gave me those interviews and i think that he is a national leader. Ive supported him ever since he decided to run. As a matter of fact, we interviewed him the month before he came down the escalator and said we are going to have a big announcement next month. I think you can do it here on the show if you really want. Im glad that hes changed things here in dc. My daughters and my son and family want to see a lot more positive things coming from the white house. They want to see your leadership and things change for better in this country. I know you can do it. Go ahead, please. Thank you mr. President and darrell for inviting us to the roundtable here. What i would like to say is kind of off the beaten path. I would like to say i wish they would quit whining about what youve done specifically for the black community. You have radical journals like those on msnbc, cnn and they are putting more poison in the black community than any drug dealer who are killing more black folks than any white person. How are they doing it, spreading lies about the economy before the virus it was a continuation of obama. That isnt true. I have a degree in accounting and i keep up with the economy. So, for all of these folks on msnbc, cnn, wouldnt it be great to have black republicans that actually know what they are talking about . If you want to know the truth and dissects the economy, lets do it. Your record woul records would e debate. Thank you. You go down a list of criminal Justice Reform and all of the things that weve done, the best Unemployment Rate in the history, just before the plane came in, last week was a reflection. Look at all of the things weve done. We have now worked on prison reform, some important in so many other things. But when you look at the economics and how well the black community has been doing under this administration, nobody has done anything like weve done. The big thing is criminal Justice Reform. I keep hearing about it and everyone is trying to take credit. We will take full credit because they couldnt have done it without us. I am not sure frankly if the Previous Administration tried. They havthey have to certainly y couldnt get it done and people that came to my office are asking very nicely for help, these are not people that are supporters of mine. Once we got there, they took the full credit for themselves. We got the criminal Justice Reform done and all these other things. I think thats one of the elements people are talking about are the Opportunity Zones that we could with a great senator, your friend from south carolina. It was his idea and he was a big idea and it worked much better than in our wildest dreams. We couldnt have thought that i was going to happen. So, we did many things and we continue to do many things. One of the elements i talk about coming and i told this to darrell before, that 42, 44 people would come to see me every year. The heads of the historically black colleges and universities. They would come up here and i got to know them. The first year they came and i thought it was a normal meeting. They were asking for a lot of money which they were having a hard time getting from Previous Administrations and we got it for them. The next year they came back and i said what are you back four and basically want the money again. I said arent we working on longterm deals . No. They got the money. And the third time i said for many years they had to come back and keep coming back. Not like a lot of others when they get it. They kept coming back and asking for money and i said what is this all about, why do you have to come every year, why dont we make a longerterm deal and i think we made a ten year deal, they were funded and staffed and that is historically black colleges and universities that played a tremendous role. I wont tell you with some of them have said how bad it was about the past administration and passed other administrations that they were treated badly and i treated them very good. The only bad thing is i wont see you anymore maybe for a long time. And they were okay with that. Now they can focus on what they really do which is education. So, weve done a lot for the black community, and weve done a lot for all communities and it is a great honor to have you with us. Think you very much. Do you have anything to say by the way . [inaudible] go ahead. Out of everybody in this ro room, youve got to forgive me, the black community isnt doing okay. I understand the desire to put up this talking point, but its not okay. I can do it in a simplistic way of saying what are the first things you did when you came into the presidency . The first thing you did is remove regulation and taxation on high levels. Thinhigher levels. Think about the black community thats been under democratic rule for 60 years, how many rules and regulations, how many different forms of taxation are on the books in those areas that are preventing our communities from actually being able to see Sustainable Growth that we can keep and get ourselves out of this generational poverty . We are not okay when it comes to things like education, because we are not able to get quality choice and our communities because we do not have any position or power. We want our School Boards to be able to fight for those things and not just give the charter and also bring some kind of reformation to the Public School system as it stands. So yes there are a lot of other things as well as health we could put down the list. All these things have been under democratic control for 60 years and they are not going to change until we have a Republican Party that is willing to go into these communities and actually offer a choice to these people about how we can do things differently. Because the way they are structured now, the only choice that we get is left are either further left. We are not given the opportunity to vote on what they look at as conservatives and equally apply. The very basic economic principle that we on th the rigs therightsay are significant in r success and seeing the success in our country, those are not being offered at the local level in black communities, so basically we are asking to grow as a country because we do not have to for ol old slagle in the areas to make everything flourish and bloom the way that my generation would like to see it, so i think the numbers and the statistics about my generation are not going to be out for 20 years. You are not going to see that we started to change the dynamic within families. We have to start to change it within a lot of the negative dynamics that are still in the statistics today involving us. Our generation is working on making sure those things change. And nobody looks at us and sees the power we have to be effective in making change. That is waiting for the next statistics to come out. Until we can actually get an honest dialogue on the right out into the ethos that says they will keep having these Fake News Media spreading lies because we are out there giving another choice as to how these things can be done. To continue to go left if we are there giving the option to go right that is like the biggest thing we are having trouble with on the right is understanding how the government works. We are a republic. That means local government has the most power over citizens lives. As well as how to take that and put them into a cohesive message that can be spread to the black community that will already engage upon what we already know. If we look at the photos of you before you became president and they were taking pictures with snoop and all the icons of hiphop, you did that i think if you can tell me if im wrong but you did that because you saw entrepreneurs and people that were willing to take a chance and make things grow. That is us. That is the black community. And i would like to see a challenge from you to see how many in the black community put their names on the side of the building coming out of it. If we are really going to reshape and reformed the way that we do this, issued a challenge because that is what we need more now than ever. And we needed to be focused and centric on the black community, not to let people come in and gentrify areas that are traditionally hours. [inaudible] no, we need the police. But if you take a look at what happened in ferguson, because that is where black lives matter really came out. If you go back and look at ferguson, the doj did a report and what came out of the report was the Mayors Office was using the police force as a taxation unit, so they were forcing interactions between police and the citizens as a way for them to raise money and bring money into the Mayors Office. That was causing over policing. So it isnt the fault of the police nor the fault of the citizenry with a legislator and executive branches of the City Government or putting into the legislative practice. Well said. [laughter] what do you think, good job . Good job. She said a lot of things. I dont know if i can say it any better than that. I think what weve done through the leadership to start to break down the system and fight back. Opportunity zones, criminal Justice Reform, they are very systemic issues and through these issues now we are looking at other layers of that because we just saw what covid shined the spotlight on Health Disparities and then with the protests. How can we create policing relations. One thing weve done the past couple of weeks is listen to individuals and now these are things we will continue to work through in the administration because a lot of people are leaning on you because you are result oriented. It isnt just about a talking here but its about what we are going to produce. [inaudible] a lot of people listen to the show or called in and want to see those results. If you go into the black community and tell people a type of statistic okay, but if you show ground movement, ground shaking things, those Opportunity Zones are more jobs over more jobs than what they are now. If you start showing those things and a little friendly drive through, president of trump here, there will be many people on these online boards and calling him. They do support president trump. They know what happened in the obama administration. They know what you are doing and they see with the media is doing to you. So dont think that you are a loan. Its just they need to hear moe from you. Is the only way you get through to the media because its almost 100 negative. Its incredible. But isnt the only thing impeding the progress of the legislation you put out. Opportunity zones pass on the federal level. They didnt go down to the state and then allocated on the local level. So for us as black people to actually access Opportunity Zones, i have to go talk to democrats, and i have to be willing to do what they want to do under how they want it done for me to be able to have access to the Opportunity Zone fund. So thats where when you see in our community instead of young black investors becoming entrepreneurs and owners cricketing gentrification because outside sources with more money and connection to democrats are able to come in instead of the black people that it was intended to help. So you are seeing this changing of our community, whereas no point in time or we allowed in the process to become a part of it and maybe be the innovators of what the future could look like. Because that is what you really have coming out of the black community. A desire to be in innovating force about what our communities look like in the future where we have been handed policy or government for so long and now you have a population that says we want to use the government as a vocalist government to invent, reinvent what our communities look like. Yes it will include police and schools and all the necessities of civilization but it would also have more investment, ownership and entrepreneurship from the citizens in those communities. This administration has to recognize the community development, financial institutions, credit unions, local banks have been excluded from a lot of the funds that have previously been recognized. You have been nothing short of historical to black america. I dont say that because i have to. I can say whatever i want. Nothing short of historical. Criminal Justice Reform was historical. People were locked up at unprecedented rates. You will did the 1994 crime bill and we are forever thankful for that. We can be critical of a lot of things, but the Opportunity Zones to incentivize people in the urban and rural neighborhoods, the hbc you, the Current Issue we are having right now is policing. We did criminal Justice Reform. Police reform is a gateway to what they see training as a crooked cop doesnt do a terrible thing we never get into that back system. This administration has been marked by a crooked cop by james comey and others after you creating things that were not there. They impeachment. They can do that and our communities have been affected by that in ways that are hard to explain. I tell people this all the time, this whole situation is policing isnt new to black people. We have been used to it. As a kid i got harassed by police officers. It was a part of our community. These will connect with the great things youve already done on the historical reform. We know we need thinking reform to get more access to capital. We also understand we need holistic approaches free and equal system. Voting rights. These are things that are historic and we believe you are the president to get things done for the black community. We are relying on you and appreciate everything youve done. Thank you very much. Okay. Thank you all very much. [inaudible] its going to be a great trip and we will come back tomorrow night. We are going saturday to west point to give the commencement address which will be exciting. The cadets wanted that very much, so we will have been a little but separated for so some social distancing. It was postponed because of the problem but we are going to do that now and it will be saturdays event will be exciting. A lot of you will be with us and we will pay honor to the incredible students and cadets and they will be the future military leaders of the country. Thank you all very much. [inaudible] highest ideals as americans expressing who we are and who we aspire to be as a nation. Monuments advocate of cruelty and barbarism to achieve that she plainly racist and are a grotesque affront to these ideals. The statutes pay homage to hate, not heritage. They must be removed. The vice chair of the joint committee on the Library Representative zoe lofgren responded to speaker pelosis request in a written statement saying in part, i agree the joint committee and architect of the capitol showed expediently remove the symbol these symbolsy and bigotry from the halls of the capitol. And the joint Committee Chair senator roy blunt had this to say about the statues when asked about potential legislation to have them removed. And it seems to me that they are systematically replacing not just confederate statues of confederate statues and other statues that in a hundred years theyve been here have been replaced i and that they would represent by somebody else and we are having a lot of that happening right now. In this process including missouri thats putting kerry truman and taking thomas hart out who happened to be a slaveholder and i think that was part of discussion actually, but they can do whatever they want to, the prior i think my view would be unless there are specific congressional actions that avoid the agreement with the state that the states appear to be headed on this path anyway and thats the better way to deal with it. Political reporter covering the president ial campaign in florida. Cspan recently spoke about the issues motivating voters ahead of the 2020 election. Mark covers politics for politico. Com.
