The other is the 6foot three toddler. One left in his pajamas every afternoon. The other would appear that they began their career by the tariffs. The other by opposing them. One was that bright soaring author. With the western civilization. You find the men had remarkable similarities. With the relationship with the media. With their own political party. Both had predecessors. So there are actually incredible parallels. With unanimous support its a disruptor. They decided to do things a different way. They do everything they can to stop it. It was written in the mid to late to 1930s. They were referring to Winston Churchill. And it was about donald trump. So similar out of criticism and the accusations. Both men lacked judgment. That they dont listen to anybody behind them. That they are overconfident. Too optimistic. All of the things with the last few years. They were both parties switchers as well. Winston churchill was fluid. It really was a lifelong politician. He have a stint in the military donald trump of course they were certainly fluid in the early years in terms of the political affiliation that they have. But what they both head in common was a love of country in the average ordinary person that lives in their country in the movie the darkest hour just a couple of years ago. Many of the viewers will remember a scene where Winston Churchill goes into a tube in london. And he visits with the regular commuters and he have that kind of great relationship with the average person. Rather surprisingly. Born into money and the same way donald trump is a billionaire businessman. Like all of us do on occasion. They got gout. Its pretty normal we also mentioned the times were similar. That President Trump elected to use. There are a lot of wartime circumstances with respect to the coronavirus. A lot of that is similar. Churchills fight was on the outside and Donald Trumps fight is clearly on the inside. They were fighting the access powers. And that from a foreign enemy. In many ways donald trump fight is a cultural fight. A battle for values and he course does have some foreign enemies as well. Really i think most people see Donald Trumps most major work to be a domestic ones. Fighting various elements of the media. Obviously the democrats and others. Your subtitle. Defenders of western civilization. What you mean when you say that. And how do they defend it. Western civilization i kind of think of western civilization as having a set of values and they tend to be values that were developed in the englishspeaking world for one of the better terms. The United States of United States of america. The United Kingdom. They are western countries with a lot of influence on values. The western civilization i really think is most of europe. With large parts of the middle east. In terms of defending it again both men intensely patriotic. Back then churchill was a big supporter. All of the values that were in england. And donald trump is a big supporter of how america has traditionally been. I think both men want to ensure that what has always kind of happened in the country stays that way and they are not progressive in that sense. Its kind of a throwback to earlier eras. Both men i think really believe in the west. And they believe in the values in the belief system into the model that are contained within mister adams given your accent how long had you been familiar with Winston Churchill. My father is a massive Winston Churchill fan. Instructed me to not only read but reread as many times as i possibly could. The speech writing and speech giving. When i was about 13 or 14 years old in the eighth grade one of my best friends to this day came and gave me a copy of the art of the deal. I was familiar with both men. And works Winston Churchill given that United Kingdoms work with australia. I will say that americans are very familiar with that. I think its fair to say that most americans dont really take all that much of an interest in what goes on in other places. American is so big and powerful who really cares what is going on elsewhere but Winston Churchill was an exception. It was an exception for a variety of reasons. He was actually half american. Number two he is the only person in the history of the United States to have ever received honorary citizenship and number three and i think this is my most favorite point of all. He was very american. He was a bald guy. He refused to conceal his true self. Very american in his disposition. Particularly back then. They where the long tradition of them. In england it was really remarkable for someone like Winston Churchill to come along the United Kingdom their political culture is a prize in timidity and moderation. The british bulldog to emerge. And not had any call qualms about what people have to say about him is truly unique. Winston churchill never visited australia at you right you write in your new book. It was a long way to go. I didnt go to australia. He did come to the United States many times he also came and delivered his famous address. I encourage all of you if you ever get a chance to go and visit the museum there. It was on the train. With the president of the United States when he was here on that trip. And he confessed if he could be born again he would choose the United States of america. Of course it would never be a quote of Winston Churchill. He said although i sub deplore some of your customs. Your refusal to drink during meals. That kinda lives up with the other famous quote. That i always use. He said that america always does the right thing. After exhausting every other option. You have a similarity to Winston Churchill. It comes to the u. S. That is something that has always bonded meet with churchill. We both loved america. A huge americana fan. He loved everything about the United States of america. And even in the darkest days he would be assuring people around him dont worry america is can end up being involved. He did have the belief in america im sure his mother have a lot to do with it. And he was on instincts and reading. He was a very educated man. A lot of the readings ring true today. He saw something in the United States it was probably his temperament. His personality. He really fit more in with the flamboyance and volume as opposed to the more relaxed shall we say british. Is it fair to say that this book is a bit of a departure from your previous books. I wanted to write something that gave a Historical Perspective on the trump presidency. So much is being shared in written from all sides. And his administration. Very little is so far given that we are only three and half years in to his timing. And we dont know whats can happen in november. I found it to be a interesting proposition. As i told you. Three years ago now. I was on the trump train from day one. When he wrote down the escalator because i have this lifelong admiration with him. Beginning from reading the art of the deal. With the environment that existed in america at the time that normal politicians no matter how articulate the problem america really made it a channel of sorts to change things. Ultimately i ended up being accurate with that. That was good fortune as well as i think some good judgment there at the time so ive always been a big trump guy and i think ultimately as time goes on his skin to be very much a van gogh type of prisoner. That expression comes from Vincent Van Gogh the artist. After he died he wasnt very much into fashion. In the same way history will look more kindly on donald trump than what hes doing right now. The level of acrimony and blind hatred that some have for him i dont think thats can be the case in a couple of decades from now. And the rather bold claim i make in my book and i will be the first to concede that it is remarkably bold considering that we are only 20 years into the century is that i do think that there is every chance if he does get elected for another four years he will have an impact on such a magnitude that they way may overcome the greatest figure of the century which i believe churchill was on the 20th century. We went and looked at media at the time. We went and read all of the churchill books that have been written whether they were biographies his own writing we took a deep dive into his past and his family and what makes him Winston Churchill. We certainly looked at all of the speeches including donald trump and in the back of the book we actually had chosen what i consider to be the five best speeches of both men. Its good to be a really good resource for anybody that picks up this book. We tried to get both men as much as we could. And find out everything we could to what made them who they were and what makes them the leaders that they are and in that Research Project i found a course that both men failed a lot as well. Its easy with the passage of time to only focus on the successes. One of the most famous failures that Winston Churchill had was the 25th of april back in the First World War and that is locked into australian folklore. It was a really bad decision that he made the ended up in mass casualties and australia and new zealand we marked that every year and with mixed feelings. Donald trump of course while he have Great Success as a businessman like any entrepreneur whether it was the boardgame he introduced back in the 1980s there was a lot of things that didnt work out the way he wouldve hoped but both men what is really interesting is when i researched it and i looked into both of them it was very clear that everything in their life including those failures perfect for the moment that they found themselves in. Almost everything that have occurred in their life good and bad their upbringing their experiences and their disappointments. Including their personality traits everything just made them ideal for their moment. Nick adams e keep you keep saying we. Whos on your writing team. I have some people that were helping me to edit the book. I like to do as much as i can buy myself. I certainly have some assistance because the volume that was needed for a book like this was simply something i couldnt do. Then i wouldve have a lot of time to do a lot of different things. When i was writing things we are back in the good old days. Did you find yourself traveling to these sites are can you find most everything the you need right online. You really have an encyclopedia in your pocket. I did go and visit the museum there again and i did go last summer to the churchill war rooms a place i had been for five times recently. Knowing that this was gonna be the upcoming book i did go there last july and i did spend some more time there. In case i was missing anything. I have not been able to implement it. Unfortunately everything kind of change in the last couple of months i was planning on a book to her that was good to be a replica of chirp chills speaking when he came to the United States. Its actually a map of the u. S. He kinda kind of made a big long shape tricked. I wanted to marry that and do that. But that unfortunately has been put on hold. Are you doing any kind of tour virtually or otherwise. Im doing a lot of stuff just like this. They had been become my best friends. For the most part it is being private gatherings in adhering to whatever the law as. I hope things are going to open up a little bit and we will be able to to get some size crowds. I thing it is a book that does deserve it to her. We are really can enjoy particularly in this election year. What is your Favorite Church hill and trump speech. My favorite trump speech is one who gave in poland that was actually will received wellreceived by the media one of the only times in his presidency where that has happened where he spoke i thought that seems to be when he is really at his pinnacle. You really cant go past the churchill speeches just listening to that. I used to have an ipod and now its an iphone. I have all of the speeches on a ipod. That was a gift that the queen gave him a few years back. Whenever i used to listen to that all the time. In and the way that that is delivered and the effects of those words. Nick adams, where are you based now and which organization called. Im in the Dallas Fort Worth area and given that i dont spend all that much time. That was important to be close to wherever had to be. American greatness. And when you and i last spoke in january of 2017 it was just growing. Im pleased to say that that is really grown to a National Organization we have a Million Dollar project and we are doing some phenomenal things. In providing patriotism. We go into schools we do classroom visits. Kid friendly resorts. The declaration of independence. And the citizens guide it to the electoral college. Also a professional Development Training for teachers. Nick adams, we know because you have said so President Trump admires Winston Churchill with the reverse be true for you . Both men would get on. It would be very interesting to see. A diet coke in one hand. And Winston Churchill was some in with some of the other. We have some chicken wings or Something Like that. I think both men would be sitting down next to each other. They would be speaking rather unfavorable. About the media and journalists. About the softies and their political party. I think they would have a very interesting conversation to be a fly on that wall. Defenders of western sill of western civilization. Its always a pleasure.
