Mythmaking. In many cases these days made americans lives far worse off and in researching this book i found scores of data particularly from gallup and they have asked American Voters for decades now the answers have been overwhelming. The American People simply dont trust the media by a margin of 70 to tell them the truth about some of the ills of the political policies have created and another 60 of American People dont trust politicians to tell the truth about those issues as well. Researching and meticulously detailing the problems also laying out some solutions but having the fact for people to see and in many areas there is glaring issues has been a true testament to the research in this book who is they in the book. Is it just media or others . Explain a lot of this in the introduction. Being a young black man on a college campus, my college campus, unfortunately, looked like too many College Campuses today where young people are not encouraged to think radically but are instead encouraged to be skeptical of those who do. In many ways they are College Professors who berate freethinkers for just actually questioning the status quo. They are also the elites. The very powerful tech titans in silicon valley. We know that for a long time twitter and facebook, they build their algorithms to actually control what you see in your newsfeeds. They, are certainly the media as i alluded to earlier and the politicians. Many of them as i write about particularly on an issue like immigration has been border hawks a decades ago and now they are fighting this administration on funding border enforcement. They could be your local paper. Anyone with power and can be in a position to tell the truth and the whole truth honestly about the issues facing our country. A native of Savannah Georgia we have covered you in the past at the conference. Give our audience of where your background, where did you go to college and what shape your views today . I was blessed to be raised by a loving mother and father, mother didnt graduate high school and my dad didnt finish college but he served his country proudly in the army and seeing my parents being dedicated actually help me when i graduated high school in savanna 2004 and spent two years i went to Florida State university it was my time in college that i sort of had a political awakening in 2008. Ironically i met a man and professor who became a mentor but he simply gave me books by great authors like thomas soul and shall be still and in those books there were Simple Truths and facts about the history of this country about our Economic System and Free Enterprise and capitalism and honestly, that i had not been introduced to in the years and being educated and growing up i researched more i was blessed enough to work for nearly 5 years for the National Bestselling Author of Peter Switzer at the Government Accountability institute and as a researcher i spent 10 to 12 hours a day researching corruption and the federal government. The tools and skills i learned as a researcher with part Peter Switzer helped tremendously in researching and writing this book. In the book you write the following many of our most hotly debated topics are shaped by davos powerbrokers, woke College Professors, tv talking heads, social media actress and abwashington swamp monsters who want you to only follow their narratives. Who are the swamp monsters . I think anyone who is paying at least an ancillary amount of attention to the current political debates a few months ago i guess before impeachment took over the news narrative, you had sitting congresswoman Alexander Ocasio cortez and president ial candidate joe biden railing against the president S Immigration policies. For joe biden its particularly interesting because it was just a decade ago he was actually voting for border spending and border enforcement. Its obviously an incredibly serious issue but in the case of alexandria Ocasio Cortez she ran as an outsider so my expectation was that she would be someone who would tell the truth but as i read about in the book, as Alexander Ocasio cortez was basically comparing our border enforcement agents to nazis when she alluded to death camps earlier this year its hard for any american paying attention to this issue if they realize, as i read about in the book, half of our Border Patrol agents are hispanic. So that doesnt actually jibe well if you are trying to insinuate out the congresswoman did that we are running death camps on our border, half the people who are risking their lives every day to protect and enforce our immigration laws are themselves latino. You look at the media specifically who is shaping the false narratives . The Washington Post . Broadcast news . Who specifically . The Mainstream Media generally. The big networks, abc, nbc, but its cable news also the legacy newspapers, the New York Times, the Washington Post, many of those outlets ironically i actually use i think almost 15 percent of the book is in notes and cnn, ive sourced these outlets. They do sort of make the mistake of doing Good Journalism every now and then but the overwhelming majority of their coverage doesnt actually go deeper into the root causes on many of the issues i talk about whether Climate Change or immigration or a crime. I think generally it goes back to the distrust you see in survey after survey the American People dont trust that the Mainstream Media is telling them the truth for the whole truths and so i think its actually led to the rise of new media, im an editor at Breitbart News so im actually living sort of nca how millions of people are also still reading the legacy media but certainly looking to new outlets like Breitbart News to get another side of the story, if you will, they feel like theyre not getting anywhere else from the Mainstream Media. Let me follow up on that point whether rick burke or fox news or one american news, from your standpoint, are they providing a more accurate picture of whats happening in this country . Or are they providing their spin on the story just maybe msnbc or the Washington Post or broadcast networks . I can only speak for breitbart. Com, and an entertainment editor. I think the spirit and the mission of Breitbart News is to actually be skeptical of both parties. We scrutinize everything no matter who is in the oval office or what the party of the representative is. I think its true that the base of the president s supporters look to breitbart. We are talking about tens of millions of americans who play by the rules, work really hard but increasingly have seen their politicians, particularly in washington dc, and file disconnect. Im very serious and important lives. That affect their many of these people are small and mediumsize Business Owners. In the last several years there have been policies that i write about in the book, for example, obamacare, that affected their lives and livelihoods and their ability to take care of the families they are responsible for. When it comes to reporting on these issues and telling the truth about lawmakers on who bought on those issues. It is not surprising that there are so many millions of americans who are just seeking out more information wherever they can get it and thankfully they come to Breitbart News every day for that box our guest is Jerome Hudson, hes joining us from Jacksonville Florida and his new book 50 thiings they dont want you to know, a weeklong series of conversations with authors here on the washington journal. Our phone lines are open we are divided between democrats, republicans and independents. Also taking your text messages. The phone number is 2027488000 three and also sent us a tweet oat cspan wj. Before we get to because i want your reaction to a story breaking this morning courtesy of access. Com the headline the ukraine aid was frozen soon after the president s call with president zelinski based on a series of emails who had been obtained from the freedom of information act. I want to share with you part of what actually is is reporting this morning. The White House Budget Office ordered the pentagon to withhold military aid to ukraine come 91 minutes after the president s phone call on july 25 went to the ukrainian president president zelinski. That according to emails released by to the center for Public Integrity 146 pages of heavily redacted emails between the office of management and budget and the pentagon obtained on the item of information act and court orders showing the president asked about withholding aid to ukraine the month before his july 25 call with mozilla and cn based on guidance i received and in light of the administrations plan to review assistance to ukraine including the Ukraine Security assistance please hold off additional dod obligations to these funds pending direction from that process given the sensitive nature of the request i appreciate you keeping that information closely held to those who need to know to executive direction. An excerpt of july 25 email between omb and the pentagon more details access. Com. Just get your o reaction to this latest development. I think that the president made it very clear in his campaign when it comes to his Foreign Policy that he would scrutinize the money, particularly he made the point about war is an American Intervention in other countries. There was a quagmire in ukraine and in the region long before the president announced his candidacy. I think as he has said, he wanted to be skeptical, he wanted more information of the particularly when americans are looking at this they do ask questions like why in fact is american tax dollars in the american taxpayer on the hook for so many hundreds of millions of dollars going to a country that has been corrupt for many years i like to see me more information but i think this is consistent on what the president has said about being accountable to his base and supporters about where the money and their tax dollars are going. In this case the country in ukraine that has been corrupt for so long. From grand gorge new york on the republican line, lee, thank you for waiting. You are on the air with ljerom hudson. Hi mr. Hudson, im glad you mentioned obamacare because i remember at that time with silver times not only the media when he said keep your doctor, keep your plan. Then mr. Gruber was the one who was the architect of it. It was passed because the American People were stupid. With this new thing the impeachment thing when pelosi said pass this bill and read it later i think its the same thing happening with the impeachment thing, pass these articles and read them later its going to end up where when they said they were in morning with their black dresses its going to end up where they were laughing and partying and it was a great thing. I think somebody is gonna be overheard saying this because the American People are stupid, thank you. Thank you for the call from new york. I didnt hear a question in there, but what i did here is a lot of the same angst and probably a little bit of rage. It is why i dedicate an entire chapter to obamacare. The Obama Administration knew for quite some time while they were gathering the vote to pass the Affordable Care act, which did pass on very partisan lines that millions of americans would actually lose their health coverage. In many cases those premiums would increase, the Obama Administration knew full well of all of this while the president was out promising people that they would be able to keep their doctor and they would be able to keep their insurance plans. I dont think anybody at the time was arguing that there were Serious Solutions that needed to be debated in ol congress and ultimately voted on if americans supported them but what obamacare did was took a product and mandated that americans purchase it and in many ways economists have argued now for a long time that that was a bailout to Insurance Companies and the american citizen got a raw deal. In the intervening years obviously the individual mandate has been done away with. I speak personally at the time for personal reasons i didnt have Health Insurance for six months and i perseveres Health Insurance the last three months of the year and i had to write a pretty fat check to the federal government just because of a choice that i did not make to purchase a product. I wanted to dedicate a chapter to this because it highlights how our lawmakers have an tincreasing amounts of power a influence over the lives of american citizens and when you have a president like president obama Whose Administration is experts were no doubt telling imhim that him telling and promising the American People that their premiums will be decreased and they could keep their Health Care Plans and doctors if they wanted to was a boldface lie and for him to continue to go out there and tell that lie to the American People i did want to document what was true. I want to turn to chapter 49, one of the 50 points you make Dicks Sporting Goods antigun policy resulted in a 150 million loss for the company but the last approval is worth it. Imagine that chapter because in Columbus Ohio there was a shooter that killed nine people and injured 27 within 30 seconds. My question is, how do you balance or do you balance the Second Amendment and the use of these assault rifles that can kill so many so quickly. I own an assault rifle. I think its in aband im an nra member. Edited support to map and mentioned that im a lawabiding citizen, im a son and a brother the people who get these weapons there is no laws you can pass to stop them from procuring these weapons. I think in many cases particularly in recent shootings in california guns are often purchased legally. So any laws that are now implemented whenever some evil person picks up a gun and does the unspeakable they only hurt people like myself people like my neighbors people who actually follow the rules and laws. As i speak about in the chapter those are the people who decided to take their business elsewhere. Re people who follow the laws and who would never think of taking someone elses life no matter what the gun is the majority of gun deaths in this country dont actually come from assault weapons. Particularly with guns those lives are taken with handguns. They are three times more people stabbed to death and scores more people are killed with hammers. I dont think this this issue needs to be about guns. He needs to be about finding ways to stop these crimes if and when its possible with the aid of Law Enforcement. We have this tweet from a viewer, who funds breitbart . Truth please. I honestly cant speak to that question we dont have a pay wall. You can go to breitbart. Com or download our app for many app store. We run advertisement on our site, which obviously any forprofit institution does but im sorry i do not know and therefore cant really speak to the intricate details of the funding of breitbart. This is what the website look like at breitbart. Com. We go to lisa and shreveport indiana, democrats line. Good morning lisa. Jerome, god bless you. Thank you. I want to know if you can eventually come out and tell everybody because the great awakening is coming. Ive talked with my blackandwhite friends, they are getting the word out. We want to know if you think within the media it will come out about the sexual trade ring, the pedophilia, the lawlessness all of this coming out. Please help us keep your voice loud and clear because the media is going down. Thank you. Im the entertainment editor at Breitbart News so i follow closely the breaking news about the decades of alleged sexual abuse by Harvey Weinstein was an individual who is very powerful not only is los angeles but in new york but in washington dc. Harvey weinstein has spread his money around mostly democrats. The clintons, since the 1990s. But in that story you sort of saw it dovetailed to sexual or alleged sexual abuse in washington dc. In congress. From there we learn that there was sort of a not so secret fund in which taxpayer dollars were being used to settle cases in which an individual made a claim against a lawmaker. This goes to the fact that congressional approval is 17 percent when people find out that the lawmakers theyve entrusted to be the best of us and represent us are actually obviously not all of these people are guilty of such heinous crimes but we find out that there is a bond in which taxpayer dollars are being used to settle sexual allegation cases i think speaks to a lot of the anger and distrust that the average american has for political elites. To go back to the gun issue because obviously that is sparking a lot of comments on our twitter page. Jody said our guest just lost me. I wish the las vegas shooter at the Country Music festival had a bag of hammers and not his ar with the bump stock and of course that was the shooting on october 2017 that killed 58 people and injured more than 400 others. Your response to that . We still dont actually know the film details of that heinous event. But in many cases what we do know is there was a failure of Law Enforcement in that situation. Im not going to sit here and say that Mass Shootings dont occur, they absolutely do and they are tragic. But as i write about in the book Mass Shootings in this country do not occur in the sense abare far more likely to die by falling or or the flu than you are to be killed in a mass shooting. Actually dedicated chapter to the fact that nearly 99 percent of all Mass Shootings happened 9 in a gun free zone, that is a place in which its advertised youre not supposed to carry a gun. I think anyone who picks up a gun and is willing to kill innocent people, they target these places that are advertised to be and in many cases Law Enforcement cant get there quick enough. Whenever someone commits a heinous crime it receives as much Media Attention as it should. The conversation is often its far too often concentrated on the gun and it is just the fact that there are morgues being filled in some of our most dangerous cities around this country and those killers are using assault rifles. Banning assault rifles wrote stop the bloodshed we see, that i read about in the book. Marshall is joining us clearwater florida, republican line, good morning. First off, i want to ask the question of mr. Hudson, i also want to make a slight comment on the last segment. Mr. Hudson, i believe this is why fox news came around. Ny Rush Limbaugh was born. Ghbecause for so long the news media all of it was turning more liberal and stifling the voices of the other half of the country. I would like for you to talk to that for just a moment or two if you would come of the comment about the other segment i would just like to say, kind of upsets me when i hear liberals call in and make a broad swatch of all republicans, all trump supporters. Im none of those things they say. I dont care who you are if i see you in trouble you could be illegal and not going to ask but i for see you in trouble im going to try to help you out. Marshall, thanks for the call. We will get a response. Jerome hudsonb. I worked at Breitbart News for years now and the New York Times is actually reported that our newsroom is more racially diverse then nearly every newsroom of the country. Ive toured the country speaking at rallies and conferences and in writing this book no more have i ever received emails, feedback and looked in peoples eyes who swear they follow the issues i read about in this book and they did not know so many of the facts that i point out backed up by research. I think that is a testament to the media in this country. There are certainly good people who work at any of these organizations within the Mainstream Media but i think particularly when you look at the president , he has actually done a lot of good things in terms of the economy and in terms of being a Law Enforcement agent but so much for so much time and energy is spent on covering what people are told our scandals. As marshall pointed out more americans turn to Breitbart News or Rush Limbaugh or eialternative media sources and at the end of the day what the Mainstream Media does in creating an atmosphere in which a book like the one i wrote can do so well does a detriment to the country. If people feel like they cant trust the news organizations that purport to be unbiased and purport to tell them all the facts about the most actual issues facing this country. Those joining us on cspan radio or sirius xm janice 124. Our guest is Jerome Hudson the book is 50 thiings they dont want you to know. In the book you write the k following establishment med marketeers eeand advertisers ha conditioned us to choose emotion of her logic, feelings over facts, why . abin the process, sharing liking and commenting on emotion laden content has morphed into a virtue signaling shortcut to critical thought. This is a dangerous downward spiral that only serves the elites who profit from it. Back to your phone calls, guy in Fort Lauderdale florida, democrats line, the morning. Thank you for taking my call and i wanted to comment about what mr. Hudson said about trump going after corruption in ukraine he made it so much he was going after it generally but he wasnt. He wanted a specific announcement about his chief political rival a person he knew first in the polls and he wanted it hidden that he was pressuring zelinski to make the announcement by withholding aid, he couldve gone to his ag office instead he goes to his hitman giuliani. I kind of laugh at the title of the book, 50 things that the media doesnt want you to know. What trump doesnt want you to know is about his tax returns as the most opaque president weve had in the history certainly the last three decades everybody else is releasing their tax returns. Thats all i have to say. I didnt really hear a question. I would like to know what his opinion is on then Vice President joe biden actually strongarming and promising to withhold aid if federal prosecutor in the ukraine was not fired. It seems to be the sort of gamesmanship thats par for the course in washington dc and joe biden was doing this at a time when his son was being paid millions of dollars to sit on a board of an energy company. The president of United States has broad powers when it comes to a particularly foreign aid. Its not a secret that that government has mismanaged funds so a president who has governed and as he campaigned saying that he would be a steward of taxpayer dollars 400 million in aid to ukraine i think any good statesman would be skeptical and want to actually find out more skinformation abo where that money would be going, how it would be spent particularly in a country as corrupt as ukraine. Rrrobert, with the street to go back to earlier point mr. Hudson say 90 of the media owned by six corporations saying that is not free press. As i alluded to earlier, i think it has over time made the media lazy when theres in there so many power and influence in one industry i think that many in the media and as you see theyve allowed themselves to become lazy and it has opened the door for new Media Outlets like Breitbart News. The media will cover the true harm a lot of the policies that have been implemented in enthis country for decades its a great point and i think its a testament to the success of a lot of other Media Outlets we have such a concentration of the Mainstream Media in this country outlets like Breitbart News we actually provide a product to people that they know they can trust that they know we actually are asking a lot of questions that other outlets are asking. Let me ask you Jerome Hudson about the tone and rhetoric in washington specifically the present many people say comes from both sides. The president was very critical of john mccain even in death. What health ab the president marking 16yearold Greta Thunberg who became times person of the year because of her activism on global Climate Change and global warming. This past week jokingly referring to late congressman john getting goal is somebody who now may be in hell. Does the president bear responsibility for the rhetoric and tone in this country . Sure. Im not going to defend the president. I do want to speak to the point darren trump as a child. The son of the president , Greta Thunberg, she put herself in the middle of a very hot debate about Climate Change in this country. She is 16 but she has become the face of a very hot political debate in this ry country. I think that there is a large difference between bear and trump being the son of the president and greta sthunberg being a spokesperson for political issue. You are right on that point let me followup because Melania Trump and herbie best campaign one of the mantras is to make sure there is more civil discourse and acceptance on social media and yet you get that from her husband. You are right she is a public figure but shes only 16 years old and was marked by the president because of what she will. Sure. I think 63 Million People who voted for Donald Trump New what they were getting. He was a bombastic on twitter years before he was sworn in. I just dont think that those people voted for him for what he would say on the campaign trail now or what he is tweeting i think those people who voted for him and continue to support him, his job approval is his rating on the economy, his overall approval has actually risen as democrats in congress have tried to impeach him. I think that speaks to the fact that the people are sort of blocking out, if the president said something thats disrespectful of lawmakers who are deceased, im not going to defend that but i do believe the people who support this president and who are paying attention to whats going on in washington dc have sort of blocking out what probably feels like white noise to them and focusing on the execution and how hes governing, how hes making their lives better. Will go to jim, republican line, springfield illinois. Jim, thanks for waiting, good morning. Good morning steve, how are you . We are good, how are you sir . Very good. Mr. Hudson, good morning. Good morning. I have a couple comments and a question. Hello . We can hear you. You had two reporters on last week on cspan with greta, one from the New York Times and one from the Washington Post. They both stated they were nonbiased they work biased at all. Thats what they stated. Right there on live tv. Then the night that trump was impeach the Washington Post reporters and all of them are celebrating the impeachment vote. He sat there on Live Television and said he was nonbiased. Caught in a photograph celebrating that with reporters that night. What is america supposed to think about that . Another comment is this . How can we ever trust the media again . How can we . The trust has been broken you got to go through so many different avenues to get the truth now and even then i dont know if you get the truth after all thats been done. My question with you, steve, are you there . I sure am. Steve, if cspan viewers would do their research and go online, get on their smart phones and i know you guys are nonbiased as best you can be but my goodness, you and everybody, greta, all you guys on cspan check on all of you guys, yearold democrat. And thats just a fact. Pedro, greta, john, especially john and you steve are on record on video over the years anyone who does their Research Come yearold democrat. However we to trust anybody now . What do you mean the video . You are on past video giving interviews about your past and your history and how you done this and that. Its all te democrat. You see what im saying . The questions you guys give people, its so onesided sometimes. Theres most mornings i cant hardly even itwatch it i have t either just turn it off and walk away because its so soaking with obvious bias in the questioning and every day is trump bashing. Ive text the sin before, can we talk about anything positive about three years can we have one statement trump doing something positive with taxes, with anything . I dont care what it is. We do that as well but i have to tell you, if you take out donald trump and insert barack obama, we had the same conversation with democrats who called in and felt the same way during the obama years. I knew you would say that. Its true. Anyone with half a brain can go on youtube and watch these ubpast videos of you guys or ev your own videos you have on your website every day its the same thing and heres the funny thing about it. Youre called out on it every day. Its not just me saying it come every day you are called out by dozens of people you guys just will not listen. The good news is that everything weve done on this network, every moment, every question weve asked, its all available on the website at cspan. Org. We are very Transparent Organization and we can be critical of the incumbent president whether democrat or republican and we are going to be fair and balanced and covering all sides of the story. I would respectfully disagree but i appreciate you calling in and we are glad to hear from you. I could speak to what jim is saying. I am a conservative, if you will, i sort of dont enjoy the labels but if you needed to put one on me sure, go ahead. I wrote this book for people like jim but i wrote this book also for people who disagree with jim. I really wanted to speak to not necessarily the people who come to Breitbart News every day probably agree with me on many of these issues, i wrote this book for that 20yearold me. The College Student who thought he knew everything who voted democrat. I talk about, since we brought up Greta Thunberg, the United States in the epas global output the epa released status of the United States hit a record low in Carbon Emissions in 2017. In researching this book, i really just remember hearing the Mainstream Media report that. In fact, the United States leads the world in carbon emission decreases i think it was andrew yang who said it as i wrote about in the book that the United States accounts for just 15 percent of the Carbon Emissions. I think the angst the uneasiness and probably the raise you here in jims voice is probably not specifically directed at you steve and your colleagues but just at the sense that the media at large is not telling the whole truth and going along to get along and propping up people like Greta Thunberg and isnt exactly reporting that it is countries like china, it is the European Union its north korea its around, its russia who are leading the world in Carbon Emissions and quite frankly have have no plan and intention to meet whatever the United Nations global admissions standards are. That rage and frustration you here in colors like jim is why i wrote this book. I just wanted it to be on record when we talk about immigration Princeton Advisors estimate that over 100,000 women and girls will be sexually assaulted while making the dangerous truck from Central America to the United States border. Over half of federal arrests are now immigration related. People feel like they dont hear these truths when they turn on the tv or open their local paper for crying out loud. I wrote about these issues and i wanted them to be in one place people can go get them. So at least they would know and be informed. We should also point out that, we understand this, if you dont like the question you might think theres a bias but we try to take a conjuring point of view regardless of who the guest is, democrat, republican, liberal, conservative. Jim, we appreciate your point, i just disagree with your thinking about that because we strive every day to be completely nonpartisan and fair. Its all on our website at cspan. Org so you can check it out. Lets go to norm in tampa florida. Good morning, how are you . We are fine. I want to thank abthe reason i make this call to put on record and what to say to brother echudson, thank god fo obamacare. Three years ago i went in for an eye exam and it was discovered that i had colon cancer. I want to thank the fact that the only reason im able to, and making this call because of obamacare. Because i had a preexisting condition. Theres another point i want to make here is that thank god i went to florida abuniversity if you read the book called what party what government by jerome aone of the things it says, you talked about i dont know what theyre teaching at Florida State but he said he studied capitalism and all its wonders. Is that western capitalism western capitalism the production began with a violent looting of the resources and forcible enslavement of numerous populations. This is from the section called capitalism slavery and the columnist. It goes on to say just couple sentences, discovery of gold and silver in america exportation and enslavement of entombment of minds of the Aboriginal People the beginning of the conquest and the looting of the east indies and turning it to africa into a warrant commercial Hunting Ground a ur black skin signalized the rosy dawn in the era of capitalism production. Norm, thank you for the call. There is a lot there. [laughter] to unpack. I didnt say obamacare was perfect or imperfect. And that it didnt have its flaws. It did cover preexisting conditions, norman, im glad that you were able to spot that medical problem that you had. What i write about in the book is that the Obama Administration knew that millions of people would lose their Health Insurance and therefore their doctor. They knew this while the president was promising over 100 times that that in fact would not happen. To your point, i actually marched in the marching 100 at florida a m i played alto saxophone. I said that i studied doctor thomas soul who talks and everywhere from broad terms to specifically about specifically about the free market and capitalism i think it is the best Economic System this world has ever known and it too obviously is not perfect but it has allowed for people who have interventions for good ideas to want to take risks on those idea who create products to do such and it has created an amount of wealth that this world has never known. And that is a good thing i think we should be proud of the Free Enterprise system we have in this country and i think we should defend it whenever we can. Its not perfect but its far better than the alternatives we see destroying many countries around the world. We welcome our viewer and Listener Feedback this is rebecca on our twitter page with this comment washington journal biased interviewing Jerome Hudson. I want the reaction to what the president said in atlanta with regard to the africanamerican vote what he saw in 2016 what he thinks will happen in 2020. Heres what he said. For decades the democrats have taken average American Voters totally for granted. They didnt do anything for you. Democrats have run americas inner cities at every level of government for 50, 60, 70 years and really 100 years ideal. One detroit last had a republican mayor in 1962 it had a strong beautiful economy per capita incomes were among the highest in the nation and after nearly 60 years of really crooked democrat rule its one of the poorest cities in america. It was one of the most successful cities in america. Philadelphia has a poverty rate more than double the national average. The city has had a democrat mayor every year since 1952. 20 out of 20 most dangerous cities in america last year were run by democrats. I would say thats not too good. Nationwide 58 percent of murder victims under the age of 22 are africanamerican. America is waking up to the democratic partys record of suffering and neglect, thats what it is. You want your vote, the nice to you just before the election and then forget about you for rerefour years or two years or years or whatever it may be. Then they come and hit you hard for three months and then get you to vote and say byebye. The president in atlanta you devote a number of chapters to big cities and liberals including 39 chapter 39 black and hispanic unemployment hit record lows under donald trump. I feel like the president was actually reading from my book there. I am a black man so i think the president understands what a lot of people understand that black americans want the best opportunity for themselves whether that be employment, education or for their children to be able to go to the best schools. And have the best chance to have the best version of themselves. I think what the president was speaking to is that for a long time, as a research and write about democrats have run the cities that have failed to protect their people particularly the black citizens and countries the costs ab cities across this country. I think what the president is doing in his initiative to reach out to black voters, i dont think the importance of it can be overstated because throughout his presidency you rarely, i dont think it ever happened hearing barack obama speak to, he would have to be chiding his own partys failures in these cities for decades but he didnt speak in terms that President Trump is speaking to about the crime, about the bloodshed, about shoddy schools and these are cities in which the people have voted for the democrats for a long time but i do think that now the president and as he said, he is providing an alternative. Hes not only providing an alternative and showing and proving the record of not just black unemployment but female and young black unemployment is at record lows as it is in just about any other category for all americans. But also this president is supporting and funding hbcu ben carson is heading up initiatives that is making it easier for black Business Owners to take out loans to fund their Small Businesses to realize their dreams and i guess the irony of it is that President Trump will probably end up getting a larger share of the black vote, i truly believe it will be somewhere between 15 and 20 because il black voters just want the best opportunity for themselves and their families just like all americans do ieand they see thi president as advocating for that. I think they are blocking out the white noise, the accusations that President Trump is a racist and i think they are looking around and realizing that voting for and supporting democrats is not actually made their lives better and that supporting this president and seeing him governed, their lives are getting better. On a recent episode of our offer Interview Program after words Temple University professor Sarah Goldrick rab talk to author paul talked about the challenges and the cost of higher education. This was another period i hadnt known about working on this but the High School Movement of the early 20th century where between 1910 and 1940 the United States drastically expanded the number of high schools and then the percentage of schools graduated from high school went from 10 to about 50 in 30 years. What was so striking to me about that was it was mostly just this like it sort of made sense but in a way that seems odd now in retrospect because we have so much trouble doing this. Communities just looked at the science from the economy and they were economists they were just watching what the employers in their town needed. He noticed technology was changes and farms and factories and that in order to get the jobs they needed their young people needed more than a sixth or eighth grade education. They had a very sensible reaction of, lets get them this education and do it collectively. Lets build a free public high schools and pretty much every community in the United States and spend our tax money on sending everyone from the community to school there whether they are our kids or someone elses kids. That collective notion just made sense to people. Now we are at a similar notion. This is 100 years ago we thought 12th grade is probably what you need in order to deal with the technology of 1920 and now we have technology thats 100 years advanced and we are still debating about whether 1 12 grade education is enough. Its obscene not enough. Now unlike our predecessors who were able to respond to that those basic, economic signs by saying lets educate our young people, we are fighting about it and turning it into questions of identity and snobbery and politics and partisanship when clearly theres a sign in our young people need our support need our help need more education need more credentials need more skills in order to survive in the current economy. A century ago we heard those signs and responded in a rational and collective fashion. Now we are hearing it in responding in an era rational and selfish fashion.
