Is speaker of the house, i have the sad honor and personal privilege to bring the condolences of the entire congress of the United States, to miya and the cummings family, the people and constituents obliges district, people of baltimore, to our entire count country. I see that with Great Authority because yesterday, my friends and those of you who have loved elijah, yesterday miya gave us the privilege of having a celebration of elijah his live in the capital of the United States. [applause] the first africanamerican noisemaker to ever surf in repose. In the capital of the United States, mac it was so beautiful and reference to lisha for people together in live of different parties and in his death of different party. That is why i am so pleased the yesterday service was very bipartisan, and bipartisan agreement, for elijah to pose, on the same catapult that Abraham Lincoln lay in repose. In the capital. [applause] so today, we have a very strong bipartisan obliges and colleagues from the house of representatives, led by our black caucus karabakh, our leaders john and marsha and so monday of our members of the house and the bipartisan fashion, please rise to be recognized. [applause] and their families and their staff elijah staff, john lewis, where are you john lewis. And we have strong representation from the United States senate and a bipartisan way astray and today also led by holland bring so monday things to us today. Compact [applause]. Bishop thomas, how brilliant if it wasnt of elisha his parents to name him elijah. Is a senate and secretary said, god is my lord is we know from the old testament, there is a traditionally missing at the the table for elijah. He might show up. He always mayday seat at the table for others. [applause] he mayday seat at the table for children for an education, for members of congress so that he could mentor them. For all who wanted to be part of the American Dream, elijah himself personally lived the American Dream and he wanted everyone else to have that opportunity. Hence monday seats at the table. How fortunate for our country that his parents also taught him to live up to his name. How blessed are we all to know him and to benefit from his friendship and his leadership. Elijah was a proud man. Proud of his heritage and product baltimore [laughter] [applause] and proud of america. He always appealed to our better angels. And to the promised america of calling us to live up to our principles and for a higher purpose. Is he said, so profound all of the words that we would use that are the best words, or words that elijah abused. When we are not meeting the needs of children, he said we are better than this. Come back [applause] he held himself to a High Standard and that is why i have called him the northstar of congress. Our guiding live. [applause] thank you miya, for giving me this opportunity to speak at the baltimore celebration as well is yesterday of elijah his live. Previously, ive seen some of you over time speaking is speaker of the house before, but the School Church and at the Funeral Service for congressman. Mitchell, sad and proud day for the Baltimore Community and our country. Paying tribute to aaron was both an official of personal honor. We have been friends for generations. [applause] now it is my great honor and personal sadness to join you at this church in elijah his journey, to celebrate elijah his live. And is i yesterday, members of Congress Said goodbye to elijah and miya gave us the honor again of upholding beneficial service and statuary hall, of the house. And at that time, i said this is appropriate because elijah was master of the house. Master of the house. [applause] and his chairmanship of the committee on oversight reform, he lived up to his responsibilities to hold the federal government accountable to the laws of the land. One word i would use to describe elijah over and over again, is the word future. He was there to make the future for actual our children who he called and hassan said, our leaving messengers to a future we will never see. But he wanted for those children to have a future worthy of their aspirations. And he wanted them to have a future built on our values continue to be built at our values. Is a master of the house, and he was also the mentor of the house. Anybody here mentored by elijah cummings. [applause] i think so. It was no surprise that when we had the selection, and we won the congress that elijah said, send me is monday freshman his is you can because i want to help them be oriented to reach their fullest potential and house of representatives. So wonderful that he did that. All members, weather new or not, benefited from the generosity of spirit. Sometimes the candor of how we do our work with the wii astronaut. The candor was there. And again, it is an honor to share again some of these thoughts of our dear elijah. He loved baltimore and his district. He is my baltimore brother in congress. We had our chats about baltimore all of the time. He loved and respected his constituents. By example, he give people hope. By his courage, he fought for what is right. By his brilliance, knowledge and legal problems, he mayday difference in so monday ways. He was fighting for gun violence prevention and expanding opportunities for everyone. Recognizing, now this is the most recent recognizing, the cost of scription drugs that hurt the health and economic wellbeing of americas working families. He was wheeling to reach across the aisle and even across the capital and in and down pennsylvania avenue avenue, so should be a source of price who loved elijah that the Committee Chairman immediately named hr three, lower drug costs act now, the elijah e. E. Cummings lower cost now. [applause] [applause] also a special entree into the thinking that elijah his thinking, and help me is speaker. The orioles and the ravens, monday have fun. [applause] thank you baltimore, for your contribution to the greatness of United States of america. I spoke on wednesday and my brothers tommys service, i acknowledge that we would be honoring elijah today. We lost two great leaders one week. In baltimore. [applause] one thing that elijah and my brother tommy and i, being from baltimore and i representing San Francisco, attic, and was the pride that we took in baltimore, our baltimore. Another thing that tommy alai should i had and i representing kent San Francisco pattern, that our hearts are full of love for america. I used to tell them in San Francisco, love means letting other versions exist. Thats exactly what elijah did. He respect the views of others in reaching across the aisle, Building Community and can sentences, thank you miya and thank you to the children and the entire family for sharing elijah with us and for loving him so much. You know the source of his strength and inspiration and i hope it is a tribute to you so monday people more your sad loss and are praying for you at the scent time.
