Some measure of an incredible man who use not only his personal reputation to take a risk to see justice done. He is a public servant. I will never forget it corey. You have my gratitude and respect forever. Also i think senator lindsey graham, my friend and colleague. For crossing the aisle and attesting to my character, truthfulness. I know he came as a friend i appreciate the Political Capital he used to testify on behalf of the democratic colic. That is rare indeed. I think the clergy of different denominations who stood and strengthened me and prayed with me. Im thankful for your spiritual comfort and support. I think those who are character witnesses for. The hundreds of New Jerseyans i encountered who overwhelmingly express their support and more portly, their prayers. I think my staff in d. C. In new jersey for their loyalty and their dedication to the people of new jersey. Especially my chief of staff. The political director my special assistant. Now, the way this case started was wrong. The way it was investigated was wrong. Where was prosecuted was wrong in the way it was try was wrong as well. Certain elements of the fbi and of our state cant understand or accept the latino kid from union city and Hudson County can grow to be a senator and be honest. I cant tell you how many people told them that the fbi went to them and said what can you give us all menendez. That is not what the fbi and the department of justice is supposed to be doing. Theyre not supposed to be leaking to the press during the early stages of an investigation. Ive made my share of mistakes but they were never crying. Ive learned about our system of justice. Its a system of justice you can afford. I understand why many feel like justice is elusive. But for supporters across the country who believed in me, who knew who i am a what i stand for, i could have never afforded the millions of dollars this case cost. My gratitude to all of those from across the country who believed in me and help me mount my Legal Defense of learned about the incredible weight and power of the federal government and how it can crush you if it wants to. Gives me a greater resolve to make sure there is a check to that awesome power. Where do i go . How to weigh go to have the damage to replace my damaged reputation. Let me share some final thoughts. Proud of the thousands of people have helped in new jersey and across the country five helped with their visas reunited families and bringing people were denied so they could save the life of a loved one. Proud of my work to have 100 port scanning. I believe thats important to stop the flow drugs. My fight to save medicare hundreds of millions of dollars. We cannot afford to throw good medicine when we can carefully administer it to patient. But a trial is not a debate. Its illegal precision. My testimony wouldve likely taken days. We wouldve put at risk one losing one of the chargers was going to be excuse to go on a preplanned vacation. We felt by the way she reacted to different parts of the presentations that she believed in our innocence. We were right on that. Secondly, the prosecution would abuse me to redo their entire meritless case including having me read emails and other materials that were not mine but would put my voice and name for their purpose giving them an additional summation. That was just a small window into my thinking. Anyone who knows me knows i never seek a fight. But they know i never shy away from one. This wasnt a fair fight. I spent 33 years, my entire adult life in Public Service to the people of new jersey and the nation. It has been one of my greatest privileges. Served with the honesty and integrity and giving it my all everyday. Im proud that ive been able to accomplish. Im proud many young people in many from the Hispanic Community says its okay to grow poor, be the first a family to go to college and rise to be one of the United States senators in a country of 310 million people.
