The author of a recent book, coming to a neighborhood near you. And how sharia is in the neighborhood near you but there you go, delighted to have you here tonight on behalf of the magnificent people of regnery publishing, and twitter users out there, and very short video tonight and introduce you to the main speaker, marji ross, in the meantime and this short informative video. A little bit of hair. Sebastian gorka 1234 how is the devil, we can do it, hook up with that. And they are part of history. George w. Bush. Regnery resonates. Regnery is so famous now that Everybody Knows how to pronounce it. Regnery was a unique lone voice when almost no one was willing to do it. The forgotten men and women in this country and trying to get it. They go for it. A passion for subjects, and what you are able to show is a markets for wellwritten intelligent books, advanced conservative ideas they would not what has to be done, knows the fight itself. To get the audience to sell the book. It is hopeless. You are sending me books for 20 years. Many of the most important books in the conservative movement are regnery books. They produce incredible bestselling books year in and year out. A hunger generally speaking for the kind of authors regnery publishes, gorka, ed klein. I feel proud america without a good one would look like greece. Regnery is the 12 punch that has changed american politics. U, obama hates you. Do gods work. Understand their audience with the bush reelection and the 2017 race. Just terrible, who cares . How does one describe marji ross . Warrior princess. I love marji ross, marji ross is the best. The most vivacious publishing head in the business. Margie knows what she wants. I love talking about marji ross stories. Marji ross knows how to get what marji ross once. At the Saint Regis Hotel she ate all of the cucumber sandwiches. He never calls me anymore, so lonely here. In between the gun rack. Marji ross, you are a gem. She never published one of mine. Regnery seriously played a difficult part in america getting news and information to people who desperately needed. Happy 73rd birthday, regnery. Happy birthday to regnery. Happy 70th birthday. Keep doing what you do. Happy 70th birthday and hope you get 70 more. You deserve a race. I want to thank you. Happy 70th birthday. It will be a great future, America Needs you. Very proud of you, able to partner with you all these years, a privilege and pleasure. Tremendous opportunity, publish a lot of great conservative votes. Regnery is going to be there as a leader. God bless regnery. Happy 70th birthday, regnery. Look at this. All right, ladies and gentlemen. From the valley. In the london bureau, slightly short, what im doing here, grateful to be here and she called me and said will you end the sea for us. Who are you and how did you get this number. Im delighted to see that, a good old colleague of mine. The thought about Sebastian Gorka. He cant hear you. I want to ask is Anthony Scaramucci here . Harry crocker, around the subway too, 70 years regnery has been around. There are not Many Companies left in the United States in principle expenses like regnery in recent years, dealing with all sorts of fake News New York times sham bestseller list. Do i sound bitter . Sorry about that. My pleasure to introduce to you, no jokes, seriously. After all, who could say anything bad about marji ross . The president and publisher of regnery publishing, marji ross. Thank you, thank you, great to see you. Thank you all. A role about parties, simple really. If you know you are going to get in front of a big group of people to give a speech you dont have a drink until after you give your speech. I shared this with many people, dont know if i ever told the story how i learned this unfortunate listen. I learned it the hard way, 15 years ago and cato burns was hosting a book party and we published richs new book called legacy and how regnery had recently stepped down and i had been named president and publisher so i arrived at cato burnss house and chatting with other guests and had a glass of wine or two. And welcomed guests, and going to introduce rick. Instead she introduced me. I walked up to the front of the room and had no idea what i said. I mumbled something about books and publishing. I was in a fog until at some point i realized all the people were waiting to hear from the author so i said okay, without further ado i would like to introduce to you the newest regnery arthur, rob lowe. [laughter] the change the fact that rich lowry and rob lowe had the sam i probably would. No drinking before speaking. I have had no champagne. Thank you for joining us to celebrate 70 years. [applause] all of us at regnery are honored by your presence, humbled by the responsibility we share with you to do what we can to make america a better place, debate the important issues of the day, champion liberty and free speech and continue the legacy Henry Regnery started 70 years ago. As i am sure most of you know, regnery launched many superstar conservative authors starting with William F Buckley and russell kirk, extending to many of our favorites today whether it is and called her, David Limbaugh, michelle malcolm, art stein, Sebastian Gorka and and many more. We now publish 50 books a year including current events, mysteries, fiction, even kids books. We have several of our most wonderful authors here tonight including and coulter and David Limbaugh and Sebastian Gorka, thank you very much. Also went to give a special welcome to several other regnery authors, sharon pens is here, a newly signed regnery arthur. Ed klein this year, multiple bestselling books. David horowitz, congressman ken buck, james rosen, emily miller, there are many wonderful friends here. I went to say a special thank you and welcome to our regnery who is here. Before entrusting it to me, thank you so much. Also a special welcome to a lot of our salem colleagues who are here. Some friends from ada, don crowe and you know this as well. They made this evening, wonderful and special, karen witter, and for all the fun, the video, all of this. I could go on but the other lesson i learned at cato burnss house was not stand between a crowd and a glass of champagne so thank you very much for your friendship, your support. Thank you. [inaudible conversations] the important one, that is the book, donald trump in first. What is it, rob lowe . Rob long. That would be in your gift bag. And the new yorker magazine was apoplectic about it, proves it is fantastic but what if they said it was an insult to poetry, put that on the back of this book, put together, fantastic figures made up, the champagne being tossed around, is fantastic that we have members of congress joining us here today. What a job they are doing. What job are they doing . An absolute pleasure to introduce someone who for a long time, somebody who brought me to their conservative spirit but tried to stop me so diligent in commitment to enforcing border was and walking in the building. In bestselling author conservative commentator, beautiful woman and all around amazing person, and coulter. The change i wrote for regnery. One hour wait, my uber driver, i cant get that information. So looking at some discussions they were going to ask me one thing i would like to say about marji ross is when we were promoting adios america, the trump campaign, if you think america died on immigration, i was out in la, the victim canceled on me. Used to be a fantastic library, now it is run by the government so it is the antiexit library and i found out one saturday morning in the middle of the summer, called marji ross on her cell phone and instantly you picked up, instantly, that was so wonderful. Always available and as for regnery, we have to get our champagne, but my first book, high crimes and misdemeanors, a phrase from the clinton era, distinguishing characteristics, distinction characteristic of regnery has always been authors would take fantastic books, publish them massive bestsellers, my favorite of that trend was the editorial privilege about spencer kennedy, how he drowned that girl and the truth that we owed the more got to talk to him and kicked off kennedy swimming out of the chappaquiddick river. Can you say you were driving . Years later, on the record, regnery publishes it, more recently a patriotic book of our fathers, not flags of our mothers, 27 publishes turned it down. Published 44 weeks on the bestseller list. The way things are going in the trump era, this hysteria, dont know if you are reading the trees and times but it is every day about somehow a Facebook Page, they think russia was behind, the russians. If you visit america in 2016 you would notice outside major cities you couldnt drive a mile without seeing a 6 foot tall trump sign but i am sure that Facebook Page in any event they have become more hysterical than i have ever seen them. I lived through the mccarthy era, the nixon era, written about them and i think this is worse than that and if i get control of the internet, could be back to regnery being the only way for conservatives to communicate with one another. Stay on their mailing list. There is a reason, regnery, the most dangerous man in america. Make sure you visit the photo booth downstairs. At hashtag regnery 17. We are in our 22nd year of the book festivals founded in 1995 by First Lady Laura Bush and a Pretty Amazing group of dedicated volunteers decided we need to have a book festival in austin, texas to celebrate Texas Authors and literacy and Texas Library and those early years the book festival has exploded and quickly became a national definition. Join booktv for the texas book festival live from austin saturday, sunday, november 4th and fifth on cspan2. Let me talk about a couple examples, one of the prime examples, very commonly in laboratories, the first of those featured in the story of Henrietta Lacks which is a wonderful book and a tv movie that is just out, a woman diagnosed with Cervical Cancer at johns hopkins, they isolated, turned it into the worlds first sells, a useful line of cells in labs around the world, and cell lines. And a small error, youd through all your cells, scientists who think they are studying liver cancer, and studying these cells, this is a huge problem for decades. It is in the early 70s, these cells were taking over and there was concern about it and not much was done. 15 years ago there were pretty good tests, that where hela cells or cells they thought they were using. Were not used as widely as they need to be. 450 other examples of cell lines in biomedical research. They Cost Convenience or inconvenience and end up getting news. That is one source of problem. And bad methods get picked up, scientists design experiments, to tell them what is going on, they involve studies of lou gehrigs disease. These studies lead to a lot of drugs, and what scientists dont think thoroughly about what they need to do or how many nice, and are quite expensive. You might take dozens of mice for your study group and dozens more for your control group, that costs 100,000 and many academic scientists dont have that kind of money. I will do ten mice and call my results a pilot study and they are constrained by resources but there have been many occasions where those have led to largescale Clinical Trials and lead to results that have been disappointing. They look promising when you do it in a small liver of mice and tens of millions of dollars to expand that only to discover it doesnt work. That is one example of a methodological problem but gives you a flavor for what can go wrong. I mentioned bad assumptions. The other assumption is if you study something that works in mice you can cure cancer in mice and strokes in mice but those findings dont translate to human beings, we are not just giant nice. Mice are not just tiny people but the assumption is they are mammals, we are mammals, it should work and often times they say i dont have anything better. All i can do is use rodents and hope for the best but we should be a little more modest in our expectations what can come out of those studies. Talk to people who are thinking about ways to make better use of animals and how to extract meaning from these animals without assuming and crossing your fingers that what works in mice can work in human beings
