Earlier today virginia congressman dave spoke to reporters following a republican Conference Meeting with leaders and treasury secretary steven mnuchin. In the meeting he urged gop lawmakers to vote on a bill linking Hurricane Harvey aid to the debt ceiling increase. The congressman spoke about the tone of the meeting which occurred before lawmakers voted to approve the bill. Heres a look. Some people feel it was intellectually insulting. People were framing this as if it was a harvey, or is this. [inaudible] thats not the way, everyone in that room was going to vote for harvey or debt ceiling increase. For 20 trillion in debt. We never put a debt ceiling increase on president obama. We have the house the senate and republicans, Strong National defense and fiscal sanity. Are we doing anything on fiscal sanity . No. So they came over today. Thats the frustration. Put it on paper. Where is it. Wheres the plan for fiscal sanity. I dont think anyone can tell me. What kind of assurances. We have all conveyed we dont like being trapped at the last minute with these juxtapositions that these votes, must pass harvey, everyones going to vote for harvey. We know that. First its going to be a longterm, 18 months trillion dollar. Now its just a threemonth deal. Thats actually a net improvement on that. Hes open to it. We dont know. Hes got a tough job. Hes got to somehow get the stuff through the senate too. That group needs a massive term turnover. We need term limit so bad on the senate side. on a 31690 vote.
