Congratulations is still another best seller. Usually i a month if the soil and a dark corner right your book i actually found a deaver more scholarly with a lot of history and research and the excellent contrast the principles and values that are essentially american with the idea is in those motives of progressive so one of the things that hit me in the first chapter was will be called conservatism is really americanism. What were trying to conserve those values that made the country began free and prosperous i think that is the best place to start what is americanism to you . That is a great point and that is exactly my point of the book. We have a superficial discussion of america lets figure out what americanism is. Populism conservatism so i research and dugin to this and it took me toolkit cicero and aristotle and even some of the contemporaries like adam smith and so forth. What the term americanism means to spend time on the is even though they did not agree with every single nuance the revolutionary war what does americanism mean . We will get into this but the declaration of independence. Those of the most critical words in the declaration of independence like natural law that from my experience never discussed or debated the yet that was the core. And with this other movement if you look at the declaration of independence the most formal consensus position and there they were and day wanted to make a public declaration to the entire world of what it was they were doing. So with that second Continental Convention they debated and discussed that. But of course, the original draft was jefferson. Before that the virginia and a declaration of rights that they borrowed from john lot. With that massachusetts declaration. Allstar all identical of referring to do unalienable rights. So we are hoping to be excited handedness pirated invigorated by the most fascinating founding of any country ever. We forget how different americanism is. To provide the contrast of that whole progressive idea the idea is sand history and philosophers because they say progressivism based on though will love the people so talk about progressivism. It is not the individual but creating a society that nurtures the individual so the laws that our predictable and stable but do not molest the individual or dominate the individual. Is an ideology that essentially requires that individual to surrender to the states. If you do that it will provide for you to ensure your taken care of and that egalitarianism and equality destroys the nature of the individual in the state become ended is all theoretical but it isnt anymore. Because they so far identified as progressive. That gives progressivism that ideology completely counter to americanism. And that is also when i explain in the book of the purposes of the American Revolution of karen and david government of bureaucrats. What could possibly be the motivation . If i am not being too cynical headed is Central Power will be better for people. That is an interesting question there are a the masterminds but those that are sucked in because maybe theyre not content so they attack it because at this point it is embraced in Foreign Countries very bleak and dark and detrimental so this notion to centralized Decision Making with the hands of of mastermind with his own personal policy believes. In with a fat bureaucracy. Even the toaster in your house all of these in contrast so look around you so many things are going on for girl but then go to a garage restore today. But typically wine and beer. , many societies . And then the average person today. And then to complain. Because of the bathrooms and then to flick of mind the switch in the regulations and. So to have that paragraph to read that with that Administrative State it is tragic. It doesnt lift up of a common man it creates poverty instead of what you are describing of the free market system that can make some very wealthy white cant people see the obvious . With those original american ideas. First of all,. With any bad decision. And are pushed from society. With minimal consequences we dont know who developed or why. Massive government intrusion and professionals not to have of wherewithal to thickset and i point that out because because of those endless promises. In people want to believe and her some reason they think governmental decisions are noble. Those men including john dewey. Supporter of that progress the intellectuals he made clear to infiltrate the infiltration with the pioneer spirit to have that modern complex society and how to Events Society and those whod push that ideology and all their ideas impose upon the people from centralized government with the interest of the people it is all about centralized government not to make this too complex but what do we mean . And with that nomenclature. So we have liberty so it does not say what it must do but with the government telling what they came into the net would be an Economic Disaster and stop interfering with my life stop trying to legally molest me well understand beyond that pretty much. Talk about the confusion in of democracy and republicanism sold to put that with progressivism. This is crucially important. The founders of this country centralization they just fought a monarchy and they knew about Central Government and it was enormously well read. They saw what happened in britain so they were very concerned the separation of power to be chosen by the state legislature and the Electoral College and the only direct the elected court that is distinct that is what they were debating. It talks about one alienable rights. These are godgiven the eternal truths. Or universal lot. And john adams talks about that. The country and of 10 Million People if it did is subject to dave told them they will lose their property. They did not reject the consent of the governed but nationalism that is a very good point. A lot of people dont understand so the progressive is that i know in congress and with that coopted as but that natural default position of humankind with this idea of progressivism of power control even though everyone has a year gain in their hearts for freedom the tendency is to feel they need to be controlled or controlling. Americanism it isnt a natural default position but creator of natural law in virtue then to be vigilant and they said you have republic a thing franklin said that if you can keep it. They kept talking about the vigilance of the people. Into casa leave resistant this is why you wrote it so we can resisted so how low do we deal with human nature here is the thing it was understood. That revolution began in boston. Theyre not fighting over health care, food stamps stamps, egalitarianism. It was understood when they met more than once in a confidential Congress Later after the articles of confederation and the Constitutional Convention there was a common understanding among those men. Its been we were thinking and arguing. And why they are so crucially important but today it is the only position you will not find these issues discussed on most of talk radio unless you have cable tv what happens in the last 120 years it has succeeded to rose society through the culture to the republican women democratic party. Bernie sanders knows what is going on. But if i were to talk to him today so i want to embarrass you those about cicero and aristotle they would have no ideas of the points is they stand on the shoulders of those philosopher kings who preceded them. There is a handful of us a certain percentage lou are attacked him and put down because we have understand what is going on so what do we need to do because this will only get worse with the coercion and the of bullying. And i also say the progressive this gives the brew for it when will they be done with the immigration . So there never done tormenting the individual. Bettis toward increased autocracy. So then it would be a very sad thing. In through a public means Weather Radio or television few are fighting within with the nature of the debate of the constitution and article five. These are the things we have to do. Some are well intended to be benevolent masters they know what they want on health care it doesnt matter if obamacare fails they want to centralize government run health care. And then i have set with republicans on the house and senate that understand how americanism can work with health care with the idea of the Free Market Health care system with better access because they dont know exactly how that system works and it can be put into a Government Program so wide of republicans tend to go centralized ill think a lot of us understand that counterintuitive that pursue their own interest doing their own thing creating a more positive society than a few people planning for a few people. I dont know if you talk to people on your show talking to millions of people with a lot of people who are making laws supposedly on our side dont understand how americanism works. We never talk about it. I would say which handful of politicians do you think are so smart they can understand and run and the Health Care System . Where do they get their genius . Know where. They are dancing with ideology and trying to impose that. Were on the winning side. The public resist politician to make promises but the point that you make is called the invisible hand the people make that 320 billion people its not possible to know better. Is impossible even the most dubious what you do. And those that exercise their own lives. Despite that tragic their personal policy preferences so it becomes difficult to explain that to people because we have been indoctrinated. So with the Industrial Revolution the greatest economic event in Human History it created the mass middleclass the yet when you watch these documentarys turvey steel mills say the pollution from rockefeller into ford automobiles even today we benefit from the Industrial Revolution. To create the capital necessary with that Assembly Line system is ironic these professors of the laughter troubled by that but not governmental problems so businesses out there i am not saying monopolies but just making a point but they need to be broken up a centralized government doesnt provide excellent goods is services the more centralized it is the less you mean the same people that oppose the private sector centralization fight for it with the governmental side. And they can put people in prison. And then outside Politics Technology has is we have so many ways to communicate this has gone back to the individual and we see that affecting the media because of the internet has been decentralized do you think that gives some promise to make their own decisions will that work its way over to politics to bring Government Back closer to home . Andy we hear the attacks on social media into destroys social media thisll be this effort with neutrality that is all very good. Real mall for you. And then to inspire them to defend their own liberty. This is the great question one of the things i discussed liberty requires a virtue it can be whatever it is. Free to do things that are not appropriate with natural lot. Adams talked about it jefferson. And theyre talking about liberty. Jefferson writes an unbelievable letter talking about greece and rome. And says take a look at rome. And then to control the government. Because people lost their virtue. There is nothing that government can create to save the people that dont want to be saved. Trying to create constitutional system that will allow people to pursue their interest with the limited government because people are resolute. So we have to be resolute to been rediscovering americanism over virtues. And to answer your question this is what i struggle with all the time and now were overwhelmed in the culture of the politics end of the media of centralized government the smothering of individuals that has become so in trenches and a the constitution there is no way to rip that out we have to do everything we can we simply have no choice. We dont have a right to give up believe we have been concerned iran for congress because i was concerned the dependency on government with the objective of a wedge is concerned about that. when it seems like it is insurmountable think about the man sitting at the table signing the declaration of independence what chance did they have to win . With liberty virtue and things that we talked about were so important because they had a clear contrast we have forgotten that. Suddenly of our liberty is taken away so i will continue to fight to support conservatives on the inside there is a lot more we can do. If its sin with what i hear with the states i just went to a convention with the state legislators and the whole discussion that the states were realizing they need to take back control. But it did san elements of virtue as people begin to wake up then they sued the federal government against obamacare with that the unprecedented pressure back at the state level in you have been talking about not paying much attention until you came to visit me at my last place of employment to make a compelling case the founders anticipated where we are today to give us the mechanism we call it article five and maybe what your transition has been . Federalism is the tenth amendment under the constitution and. Those state conventions would never ratified the federal departments and agencies so in essence a complete rewrite without amendment when congress meets apparently it is a Constitutional Convention with the president issues in executive order that is a Constitutional Convention. Because there is some confusion those that dont want the government to get in the way who would lobby the Republican Senate not to change obamacare. What anderson don the dollar to open balance the budget. You want the money from the federal taxpayer then they claim they support federalism but they dont and we have blue states where they claim that that is a federal role in the constitution so they claim nullification of the federal role because the yen is justified the means. Article five that they say but that he supported the constitution . Use support except that part of it . Why not . This is the of the fed when there is one method we were debating in philadelphia allowing twothirds of congress to propose the amendment with a 38 state legislatures to ratify. Here is another part. And with that Constitutional Convention to say this cannot be what if we have out of control federal government . Congress did not propose anything to fix it. They should have for role in this. In article 52 debate and come up with ideas. To have a convention in to go through the same ratifications process. And then to have a Runaway Convention. With 38 state legislatures have to approve what comes out of that convention . It is impossible. And i thought we supported federalism for girl so fredonia faith in the state legislature you are not of federalist mitt in to support the tenth amendment is allows the states to meet to know in advance as they send a the delegates the authority been meeting and talking about it and a proposed zero book with the size and growth of the government to a term limit the members of congress to have the debate on these issues because if we actually believe there will be reform that has built walls around itself that will not happen. I have a lot of empathy for the critics because i have not studied it sorry came to washington believing we could solve the problem tom coburn was there so back in the late 90s talk about balancing the budget barring from Social Security so with the president if that doesnt balance and those out years if you talk about balancing the budget even the Republican Leadership to see it is extreme and then to make a presentation is actually short and simple in they are treated with equal value. And when people say we have a Runaway Convention first is a real already have a Runaway Congress the chance is the 38 states are slim to none. The way this is set up with those three subject matter areas restrain the government fiscally to balance the budget and those of our lives. And what they all need to do. Ltd. Is an act of mercy and those of have already done this i have been encouraged that more states realize we dont have much to lose and if you ask a person who is opposed will congress balance the budget . The their own the two ways to stop the government one is that economic collapse. And to call a convention to propose amendments so coming around to your point of view everywhere i have a chance i am optimistic and with this article five to educate americans and what the founders envisioned so to talk about a longer than i have. And i looked at him and i said you have a duty under the federal constitution to help your country. You have more power than congress under the federal constitution if you step up and help your country. This centralization of government we live in a postconstitutional period and much of what the government does is extraconstitutional. This is exact weight what the constitution calls for so we have these conservatives who run think tanks who write books teach about federalism and the 10th amendment, but suffers no power against what congress is doing and then you say okay lets go to article v, now we can be that because well have a Runaway Convention. I cant even imagine a way in which we would have a Runaway Convention turns 38 state legislatures have to ratify. I have thrown in a number of proposals and others are thrown in a number of proposals and thats good. These things need to be debated but people need to understand that the constitution does provide a way for reining in Central Government reining in the drafters say, reining in the courts. This is why progressives who write the editorials, and write the newspapers tv shows and a lot of republicans reject this. It takes power away from them and puts it through the republican system. I think the time has come, markets almost a responsible now for americans for politicians at the state level to believe that the status quo isnt working for the country. The good news is i think it got 90 of americans virtually who have lost confidence in congress that they need to know some of the things that you are talking about here and i dont see this so much as the local process. Theres a connection to what you are talking about here of americanism and the decentralization of power and moving the Decision Making back to the people like you same here. Not necessarily what is decided but who decides, who decides how you live and it gets back to the negative than a positive liberty argument because what we are talking about with the convention of the states i guess you would put under the negative liberty category in the sense that its telling the federal government clearly what it cannot do. He cannot increase the debt or raise taxes. Economics and in the states and so again the idea that we are going to have the convention that takes away our rights is not within the subject matter of the call so frankly at this point i feel a whole lot more secure in this process and i feel like it needs to happen relatively quickly. Guest the bottom line for me is this, we need to make the case for americanism. The constitution is the governing manifestation of the declaration. Either people believe in in their own inalienable rights, people believe they were born with inalienable rights, and people believe in these internal troops wherever they come from. Universal law. In other words either you believe that as a human being part of the government part from brockers the part from hollywood and certain inalienable rights come from a power or they dont. Americanism, yes we do and let me give you an example. Right from wrong. Good from evil, the golden rule, the 10 commandments, the eternal truth. You can live in topeka kansas somehow you know thats right writer paris, france. How do you know . How is the person in paris a reasonable person and how does a person in kansas no the same thing quite how do they know right from wrong . How do they know the golden rule . Forget about the title of the golden rule. Forget about the commandments for you are not supposed to kill people. How do people know that thats writer and thats wrong . Not because somebody pass that along. Its written on their hearts and aristotle gave this universal law as opposed to personal law. Cicero believed it too. Sydney and who most people have never heard of before who was hugely influential, he was killed in locke feared for his life to help these men who wrote about all these things face one form of tyranny or another and those are the people the founders relied on and that is what is not taught in our schools. Husk of the things you were talking about that are essentially american and foundational when you talk about a moral order natural law and virtue for right and wrong, golden rule all of this is then funneled into this religious idea separated from the operation of government which we know thats not what its intended but thats basically how it was virtue is we are no longer allowed to talk about that in the context of the public sector. Im make the point the framing of the constitution were a religious man. I dont mean sell us. I went and looked at all they are back around. Im not aware of any atheist but it doesnt matter. If you are relevant the constitution doesnt mention a specific religion. The constitution doesnt mention god or the reason why we are such a powerful society the reason why we look at the First Amendment about not establishing religion like they do in the middle east and other parts of the world the men believe in the judeochristian set of values and they did not want to create bureaucracy and they didnt want to impose their views so they traded a very tolerant society. What i say to people is you dont have to be religious. You dont have to believe in anything but you get the benefit from side Society Society regardless and thats okay. They are people who have said to me the declaration laws of nature but what if im an atheist and i believe the natural law . He escamilla can pick you can have a debate work comes from but you can believe in eternal truth. You can believe in a moral order you can believe in universal law. Aristotle did. So yes you can then you should. Host we have only got a few minutes left and i dont know if we covered everything in the book that you think is important but maybe i should take the last few minutes and give to you not only in whats important americanism that what will we do about it as citizens . Guest i say this from time to time, if we leave the battle of ideas the academics in the intellectual there goes everything because like it or not the academics went out. They control education. They have enormous influence on politicians enormous influence on health care. Not the grassroots. The grassroots can have political power but in terms of what kind of society we want to live in unfortunately those decisions are often made by debates so we cannot leave the battle of ideas to the intellectuals and the academics because we know comes to their ideas to the point is learn as much as you can about americanism and learn as much as you can about antiamericanism, progressivism so you can tell your neighbors and tell your friends and we can sell educate the nation. We are not going to get it from college. Host despite all the domination of the progressives in the media and hollywood politics in academia we still have half of americans who somehow continue to vote for the side that they think will create more liberty and that gives me hope that there is still the yearning that we can inspire people with ideas like you have in the book, mark i think america will step up again and demonstrate their virtue. Thank you for writing the book and all the research that went into it. Thank you for you do everyday
