Success he has. He did become famous for the wrong thing for this kind of accident or fluke. And i think in his later years he eventually made peace with it and sometimes exaggerated stories and anecdotes, these great things. But in a way that a way that been made the problem worse. Building up command i just made his difficulties is an older man and finishing thousand getting money to finish homes in getting project started all the more pronounced. You know the sense that when you are so successful in a young at a young age you can produce another popular success people start to lose credit and faith and faith and his ability and question his competence ability to good finish. It became a self fulfilling prophecy. People people dont want to him and money to make movies and he still trying to complete his last film as it is now the and money to complete it. That is ultimately being so famous was one event heard him very much in the long run. Clicks dont necessarily believe. Believe. Do you suppose that had any effect on people years later . It very well could have. I know people for several years after did start to treat breaking news broadcasts much more skeptically. A lot of anecdotal evidence that when the announcement first came for pearl harbor nobody believed it because they thought he was at it again. I met a gentleman once again up to me and said, i remember the first time i heard the i heard the name. You heard the announcement for pearl harbor. I dont believe i dont believe it. Its another one of those orson welles things. There was a lot of that. I would not be surprised if that had some effect. I think we have time for one last question. Sure. That is a trade secret the moment. Thank you. Maybe we have time for one more. Sure. Clicks a lot of baby boomers. Clicks are is your generation going to be more critical in your thinking . I think we already are. The question, i think we are more savvy about the Communications Technologies because it is all that we know. A think that is part of the reason why i was able to write this book the way that i did think about is a viral media event. We think people in my age tend to think in four dimensions in essence. We are trained to think in la. When you look at what happened with radio for my talk about how there are some indications the children and young people were actually less likely to believe in the broadcasts that adults because they knew the medium and new orson welles from the shadow another things like that. And and adults who did not really understand the power in the way worked more likely to be deceived. I dont that may not translate into critical thinking, thinking, but i do think if you grew up with it the media technology, you are better able to see whats going on. The Second World War started, the prestige back in radio. Clicks they did. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the an hp coffin bore and william l sure are on around the outbreak of the Second World War. I wish we had more people like that today. I think that about does it. Appmack thank you all very much for coming. Clicks thank you for being here. Appreciated so much. Thank you for coming. Up next, political commentator mark stein takes a critical look at the evidence offered by Climate Change proponents in the Scientific Community including evidence generated by computerbased models. A contributor to the Climate Change facts and spoke at the tenth international on Climate Change. Washington dc. Clicks good morning, everyone. Good morning. I spent about 16 years in the newspaper business before i tricked joe i tricked joe bashing the hiring music indications director for the most prestigious freemarket think tanks in the world. Now, joe is in here, so id appreciate it if he just kept that in the room. Zero, and for any millennials out there and newspaper is a product that was put into a plastic bag, thrown onto a driveway but only allow the Mainstream Media to lie to you once a day as opposed to writing on your phone when you get this kind of lies all day long. When i was in the newspaper business i was a budding columnist, and that is when i came across one mark stein and his writings. That is when i realized i need to get out of the column writing business. [laughter] i am i am no good at this. I dont know how youre supposed to do that. Because really marquez no peers in the commentary game. Quite simply the greatest writer of the english language in the western world eyes and sides, his wit, his laugh out loud fine lines, there is no. Anywhere, and a lot of columnists have right for a living probably it deep down in their heart. We we still have to read them come i suppose. But it takes me five times as long to get through a piece by mark stein that it does a normal column. You start reading and then you pause menu back up and read that passage again and back up. Again and then call your spouse. Honey. I have to honey. I have to read this to you. Sit down. And then you both laugh out loud at what is written but also think that has such insight and power and there is no way in the world who writes quite like that. I am sure there are a lot of people in this room that also read them in that way. Not also just also just a writer, amanda varied of varied talents and interests cannot connoisseur of show tunes. As a matter of fact mark steins himself sings american standards. I downloaded i downloaded a duet between himself and Jessica Martin called a marshmallow world. The he has on one time and believe me you will never forget it. [laughter] all morning. You will never forget it. Mark stein is known as a documented anchorman in far northern new hampshire. I also understand is a keeper of the data. So when the climate models, and the future and i try to adjust those temperatures mark will be there so they wont be able to get away with it. I appreciate that service. He is also the worlds secondmost famous claimant litigator. [laughter] the first most famous of course is that special snowflake my Nobel Prize Winner michael man. And the reason he is number two with a bullet is because he has countersued michael man. We will get down to the bottom of all of this and stop having the legal system be used to bully people who stand up for free speech. And mark stein is doing this. [applauding] that takes an enormous amount of courage and money. Mark stein famously does not have a Legal Defense fund. He prefers to do this the freemarket capitalism way by selling his wares. I recommend all of you if you want to support this important fight for free speech go online and by his outstanding books. You can get a coffee mug. Its terrific. That is how you can support this important work. One of the books you will soon be able to get is the new title called a disgrace to the profession. I will leave it to you to guess who that book is about and what his profession is. [laughter] he is the author of the number one climatology hipper a blockbuster Climate Change the facts which they are running out of constantly on amazon as it is such a great book. Many of of the coauthors of the booker hear the audience. They were invited to sign copies. I hope their hands have recovered. Of recovered. The science director for the Heartland Institute called this book the best book on Climate Change for a general audience that has ever been put together. When you read it you will agree. It is my great pleasure and honor to bring to the stage mark stein. [applauding] thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. It is a great pleasure to be here, a great honor to be here with the Heartland Institute. The Heartland Institute is an absolutely indispensable beacon of sanity on this issue. [applauding] and i am also honored to be here with some of the eminent scientists with whom i am sharing the pages of a book Climate Change the facts. Pat michaels and willie found an armstrong and alan moran and anthony wolfes three you have just heard from. We are all in this book. You dont need to wait for us all to write 25 different books. You can get the compressed version. I have made no useful scientific contribution. I have basically only been invited here because as jim mentioned i am being sued by the inventor of the Global Warming hockey stick to michael man. I wish that were more exclusive club actually. Abcaseven in this very room i have met i have met a couple of other folks and my fellow canadian this year whom dr. Man is suing in British Columbia. I am canadian. Tim ball this canadian. Man seems to be a bit collective focus. [laughter] which in this very Identity Group conscious age is apparently the only fovea you are still allowed to have in america. I dont know what is up. It is payback for the war of 1812 or something. [laughter] but anyway anyway i am here because man is suing me which is really a useful contribution to science. I i understand my limitation. Its a useful contribution. Maybe its that kind level. Anyway the trial will be right here in the District Of Columbia superior court. My lawyer is here today. Last year in a trade secrets case he won a big payoff for dupont of 919. 9 million. And he has promised me that we can take dr. Man doctor man for at least around billion. [laughter] now, as most of you probably know lawyers dont like it when clients talk about the case in public. Is it can cause problems with the judge. You have heard that. I had never heard of until this morning. [laughter] until he mentioned it to me just before breakfast command i i had already written my speech by that. [laughter] and i am hopeless of that. So i will quickly tell you where i stand climate wise. This monday is the 800th anniversary of magna carta. [applauding] one of her majestys canadian subjects. Which the barons forced king john to agree to the field at runnymede on june 15 1215. When i was a schoolboy was a schoolboy we were taught that the england for 15 was a degree or so warmer than today. And vignettes were sung sound as far north as the isle of ely. If you are wondering, if youre not british and wondering where the isle of unity is it is a stones a stones throw from where the east Anglia Climatic Research Unit stands today the climate gate guys. So i will take Global Warming seriously when they tear down the Climatic Research unit and so the vineyard making an amusing little shots now of phil jones. Until Michael E Mann abolished the medieval time with a wave of his magic hockey stick it was acknowledged as a hugely beneficial phenomenon that led to the flourishing of the economy agriculture, industry, science, art and liberty. Magna carta the top the great charter. Apparently they dont they dont have magna carta here in the District Of Columbia. They have the dc anti slap law which so far is nowhere near as good. After the medieval or we have the little ice age and then the warming we have had since the 19th century. I accept and rejoice. As with the medieval time it has been hugely beneficial to mankind. I mention that i am canadian. The entire Political Economic and Cultural Development of my country has taken place during this warming. Nova scotia, 1848 the first responsible government and the british empire. 1867, the birth of. 1867 the birth of the dominion of canada. My entire nation has been the beneficial of this warming trend. Trend. Theres a statistic this is 90 percent of the population of canada is within a hundred miles of the us border. You know why . Because you it go beyond that and it is freezing cold when you revolutionaries and those loyalties had carved up the cotton we should have done it northsouth down the mississippi. I was talking to professor event yesterday and spoke yesterday. He said he had moved from alberta to British Columbia because it was warmer. Thats like moving from louisiana to mississippi for the skin. [laughter] 90 of canadians live within 100 miles of the us border. If we had not had the warming of the last century and a half 99. 9 of canadians would be living within 100 yards of the us border. It would just it would just be like one long Condo Development strong along the 49th parallel. So when i first saw Michael Manns hockey stick 15 years ago i reacted much as Jonathan Jones professor of physics at Oxford University if youve never heard of Oxford University command is apparently some wacky fringe coat funded denials to fund group where you can download the diploma for 17 shillings no one takes it seriously. Anyway, Professor John says, like many people like many people, i was dragging this better hockey stick. Looking up some minor detail about the medieval warm time and discovered this weird parallel universe of people who apparently did not believe it happened. Even more bizarrely they appear to believe that is actually nothing essentially nothing had happened in the world before the 20th century. The hockey stick is an extraordinary claim which requires extraordinary evidence. I started reading around the subject. It soon it soon became clear that the first extraordinary thing about the evidence was out extraordinarily weak it was. A second was. A second extraordinary thing was how desperate is defenders were. I i had always had an interest in pathological science. [laughter] and it looked like i looks like i might have stumbled across a really good modern example. I agree that. For a generation a generation of people across the western world michael mann abolished not only the medieval warm but the entire concept of natural Climate Variability. If you talk to some of these young activists who have been forcefed the stuff since kindergarten, they dont know what natural Climate Variability is. I called the hockey stick fraudulent because it is in its construction and in the uses to which it is being put by the ipc see an al gore and every most governments throughout the western world. The hockey stick is what is called a proxy reconstruction. A proxy reconstruction. And. And there are only two problems with it. The proxies in the reconstruction. Reconstruction. [laughter] other than that, its fine. But my government not my government. I dont want to make it sound like i was i was responsible. Her majestys government use the hockey stick to sell kyoto to the canadian people and so did her majestys government down in new zealand and virtually every other destination except the United States in between. Real people. Well price for this. I real price for this. I called the hockey stick fraudulent in national review. Michael man sued me for definition. In the District Of Columbia i voluntarily submitted to their jurisdiction because i thought if there were so eager to take the case there would be capable of litigating a 270 were a 270 were blog post in under 270 weeks. We are now coming up to the start of the fourth year. Is this the section mocking and sneering that you wanted me to take out . [laughter] okay. Now, not now not every part of this case is the fault of the court. As lawyer tried to sneak in here without paying yesterday. Auntie had auntie had to be escorted out. This is such a racist society when the cop start cussing about and they draw their guns and shove these bikini clad teenagers to the ground. In ground. In Michael Manns 1,200 our white shoe lawyer is the big climate deniers he just gets politely politely asked to leave. Cap taste . But i mention it. If you were kept awake last night by what sounded like occasional palms against the wall that was just michael mycommands lawyer rappelling down the ventilation shaft to get in place before breakfast. I. What was that other thing you mentioned . Make cracks about the other guys lawyer. Abcaseven it makes it harder to reach a settlement. All right. As i said, not all the delay in this case is the fault of the court. The aforementioned mr. Williams filed a complaint with the superior court accusing me of the professional and personal definition of a nobel prize recipient. This was a hitherto unknown crime to me. Defamation of a nobel prize recipient. That is not in magna carta. But it is apparently a crime in the District Of Columbia. Until then i had then i had no idea michael man was a Nobel Prize Winner. As it as it turns out neither did the nobel institute. [laughter] there were a couple of reporters that called them up and the director of the institute said michael man has never been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. That is what he claims to have one the Nobel Peace Prize. Notice the subtle elision. Defamation of a nobel prize recipient. Not just a lousy old Nobel Peace Prize winner where youre standing in the hall of fame between al gore and yasser arafat, but a side Nobel Prize Winner where what you write in the same pantheon as einstein and series and all the rest of the. He he claims to be a Nobel Laureate because in 2,007 the ipc see as an institution receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He was one of thousands upon thousands of people who had been associated with the ipc see since 1990. A couple of years later the European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize. On his criteria on his criteria the eu has 500 million Nobel Laureates. You cant swing a cat that hitting a Nobel Laureate. You go you go to one of those nude beaches in the south of france and it is walltowall naked Nobel Laureates. It is the nearest you will get to seeing max planck and gustav hertz. So every eu citizen is a Nobel Laureate. My fathers irish and and my mom is belgian. Im a twotime Nobel Laureate. Eat your heart out. This to me is important, is important because it gets to the heart of the bubble that these people live in. Why would they think twice about adjusting their figures to back if a man seriously believes the pantheon of laureates can be adjusted to include himself why would he be bothered about adjusting the 1915 temperature record though i know it did just last week . What is the big deal about that if you seriously believe yourself to be a Nobel Laureate, has thousands of these guys do. And that is why they had no qualms about adjusting the temperature record of the last centuries. That was two was absolutely stunned. I. I was absolutely the most dramatically adjusted figure that i had seen since Caitlin Jenner a couple days earlier. [laughter] if you take michael man out of this equation a lot of the socalled lukewarm and moderates and all the rest of it commands some of you may know doctor Richard Betts and temps and edwards in england who have both said they dont think the term denier is usable. Who uses the term denier more than anybody else . Document has call just about everyone here deniers. Climate denier joe banks. Climate change denier john coleman. Climate change denier roy spencer. Anthony watts Climate Change denier extremist. [laughter] un command that a. You know, there used know, there used to be a thing on broadway. Jim mentioned they used to be a thing off broadway. Sam shepard wrote one. Some inbred appellation family. At one time there had been a still more baby. They would bury they would bury it out regarding no one mentioned it. Even though no one mentioned it the less they talked about it the worse they worst they got. It still infected and poisoned everything they did and that is what theyre trying to do now. Now. If they could redo the third assessment report, they would not put everything on the hockey stick. I think that they can get away which is not mentioning it just ignoring it but try not to catch mycommands i. The fascinating thing about those emails is not all the science stuff the doubts they expressed that were wellknown, but the actual personal relationships between man and these porsche loves to sound like battered wives. You know they are trying to avoid another slap him but dont want to finally get out and walk away and have to get up and walk away from the hockey stick and be seen to do so for the integrity of science. [applauding] this conference is called a fresh start. And that is what Climate Science needs. I urge you to read matt ridleys piece in the australian magazine quadrant that is pinning everything, taking a wild ride on the hockey stick to a corrupting the heart of Climate Science. Science. And the clintons themselves they have to actually draw a clear line and admit that the last 15 years were wrong is corrupted everything attached from the prestigious journal to peer review to the governments that embraced it to the climactic collective Research Unit which trashed its founders legacy. These guys did it for a building called the hubert lamb building. Were the greatest climatologists of the 20th century commanded trashed his legacy. And Climate Science has to make a fresh start and get beyond this. They will sound ridiculous. We heard earlier that many people have not fallen for this. And that takes great courage. Most of us are not galileo. I am glad, whoever said imagine what galileo could have done if he had had the internet. I think you would have just been posting cap pictures all day. Most of us are not galileo. Most people want to be like most people. When you look at the polls of people say Climate Change is not important. It is number 19 on my list of concerns and you consider abc and cbs and nbc and the bbc and the cb seeing canada and the New York Times and the times of london and the city morning herald and everyone else has shove this shown this thing down peoples throats now for 20 years, and they are still refusing to swallow it that is extremely unusual given the levels of propaganda control. And that is why a fresh start is possible but it requires Climate Science to recover its integrity and climb off the hockey stick. Thank you very much, indeed. [applauding] clicks we have two minutes available for questions. Who has got them . Jeopardy rules. Who has questions . Is there one closer . Really . No questions . All right. Here we go. Just to clarify things, you counter sued. Of those lawsuits still active . Clicks yes. They are. I can tell your accent that you are as foreign to this jurisdiction as i am. Most of us foreigners know only two things about the American Court system that it takes years of your life and it is incredibly expensive. What i did not realize was that it actually takes decades of your life and is even more expensive. The antislap law which which allows you to get the suit dismissed quickly, that is the. It is called a strategic lawsuit against public participation. Nancys people like me so that instead of going on the internet or radeon television and stage and talking while we are just confirmed with lawyers all day long and have no time so they invented this thing called anti slap law whereby your meant to get those kind of case is dismissed quickly because it is a Public Policy issue. He wants to collapse the western economy, and i dont. That is something that you should talk about in the newspapers and television in one not but not in the courts which apparently are not competent to adjudicate. So they have this law which you are supposed to use to get the case dismissed quickly. And they are now the Appeals Court judges are now deciding whether the slap law is appealable because when they wrote it they did not know whether the law itself could be appealed. So it is a test test case. You cannot know how thrilled i am. [laughter] to be part of an american test case. I served discovery on him a year ago. He asked for my discovery. I sent 23 cheap jokes cheap jokes i have made about him in the last 15 years. And then when i asked for discovery back he asked the court to stay discovery. And so that is the stage we are at. Ive countersued him for 30 million. I think we initially did it for ten million. That is apparently like dr. Evil in the austin powers film. It does not impress anybody. So we bumped it up to 30 million dollars. Judging from the sales of his new book he is going to be on a book tour for the next two thirds of ammonium to cover that if we went. But so that is it. We will i think we will be going to trial. And it is a free speech case commanded is an important freespeech case of the most important one and half a century. I called his hockey stick fraudulent. I described it as fraudulent since the year 2001 and the National Post of interNational Postal canada australias national newspaper, the australia the australian, the united kingdoms biggest selling broadsheet the telegraph. Telegraph. Probably a lot of other newspapers around the world all the way to hawkes bay today in new zealand. Anyone hear from hawkes bay . Take
