And its a pleasure to be with you all once again. As the United States and australia celebrate our past century of partnership and look to the next century of partnership i was inspired to bring together the spring and crisp american autumn as the seasons ripple across our great painted land scapes. This evening, the president and i will welcome the Prime Minister to the white house. We are excited to build our strong and show them pieces of our country that makes us proud. Tomorrow, we will visit the National Cancer institute some see the incredible work they are doing for children with cancer, a cause that is close to both of our hearts. Nurturing our partnerships with our allies is critically important especially in these times. Food its comforting, reassuring and healing and we hope this dinner provides a little of that as well. And while we have initially planned for the leg again dare b52s to perform their dance and party music, we are now in a time when so many are facing sorrow and pain. So we have made a few adjustments to the entertainment portion of the. The band will attend the dinner as guests. And the president s own marine band and the army and air force strings will provide instrumental music for the dinner. The United States and australia may stand on opposite sides of the globe, different hemispheres, different seasons, but despite our distance, we share so much. A dedication to democracy, a rerchance for freedom and devotion for equality and natural wonders of our nation. Every detail of this dinner has been thoughtfully planned by a team of people from across our government. So i want to thank our white house resident staff, our chefs and wonderful guest chefs, our social team and the state Department Staff who have been working so hard to make this visit meaningful. Thank you all for being here. And i asked the chefs to share samples of the deese earth desert. And i turn it over to our social security. Thank you, dr. Biden and thank you for joining us today. As you all know, this is our fourth state dinner and each one, the first lady has brought her warmth and heart to making the guests fill at ease even when home is far away and chosen decor tay that will delight and surprise whether from australia and the United States and something that reminds them of the familiar landscapes of their homes. The moment guests will walk in, they will be immersed in color. The feeling will be draped in cool colors and sea foam green and ending in a deep blue. The clock will cascade into earthen greens, blues and soft pinks framing the stage, how sunlight hits the cliffs and rocks of the coast of the final moments of each day. Hanging along the fabric will be golden chand leer dotted with pink roses, the National Flower of the United States and at every table rosier bloom along side australia you can liberty us which grow across our country side. Among them, peers, pomegranates, apples and red and green grapes common to american and australian table scapes reminding us of the bounty of fall and how much we share. Dr. Biden sets the tables with candlelight and flowers fresh cut from her garden. Tomorrow night it will be the ease with tables featuring blooms in vasees making guests they are sitting in a field of flowers and the aroma of the roses will fill the air filling guests out of the concrete city and memories of time spent of the fresh air of our shared landscapes. Warmly colored table lynnens will match the pastel pallet and ocean blue carpet. A glass charger will echo the sunset around it and going from teal to rust to peach to white. And covering the head table, you will find a floral design marrying the flowers sitting on top of it and gold blush flat ware a nod to the rocky feeling of the drapery. The president and Prime Minister will offer their toasts against a backdrop of vibrant blue. And by kays leaves growing together intertwining our natural words. Greens, reds and the monarch butterflies and electric blues and yellows of australian redwinged butterflies. And dozens of paper flowers bring the garden to life. This design will be reflected in the program at each place setting. I thank brian his team who have been incredible to work with and brought thought and passion to this design. Dr. Biden has chosen a venue to showcase american ingredients thanks to our team of all female chefs. It is my pleasure to introduce our incredible guest chef, katie. [applause] it gives me great pleasure to preview tomorrows anticipated state dinner menu in honor of australia. The invitation to work with first lady has been an incredible honor and true privilege. We wanted to welcome the geforts from australia with the warmth and bounty of fall in the United States. Im from asheville, north carolina, tucked away in the southern appalachia, a region that is rich in farming and food culture. My background is in science. Im a masters in Biomedical Engineering turned chef. Now i study how care and passion of producers lends to high quality better ingredients and season atlanta is an essential part. Reflecting the bounty of the fall season, we start with Butternut Squash and farro. Sour gum is an appalachian pressed and reduced to a. Mr. Sires up. The next course is braised short ribs, and floral quality that pairs well with tender fall off the bone. For dessert, chocolate muse mousse cake. And my deepest appreciation to social secretary, executive chef and executive pastry chef for their collaboration and expertise. I look forward to showing my children a photo of the three female chefs responsible for tomorrows meal. Now we will present the dishes for the press up close. Garnished with wonderful sourgum and pop it like a popcorn and get it at a store and pop it in a little pot and you can hear the cracking sound and wonderful collaboration, textures and sweetness and all of the herbs. We are sharing the roasted Butternut Squash with pumpkin seeds and tremendous feeling of the bounty of the fall. The second course is braised short ribs. With sour gum glazed carrots and brussels sprouts. The short ribs is one of the roots with the creation of root beer and so delicious with redin. And i have the third course which is the dessert and as chef katie mentioned, hazle nut and chocolate mousse cake and fresh ice cream and dark chocolate and caramel sauce with a chocolate soil that we call where we burn the ingredients to make it very, very intense and very clock late. I dont know if you smell it already, very delicious and very creamy and hazlements is so superb. I hope you enjoy and have the opportunity to take one and enjoy it.
