Makes a shut down more likely . Rep. Hoyer there is no speaker jordan. You mean if he were speaker . It is a hypothetical. He voted against 36 out of 37 continuing resolutions. That doesnt give you any confidence that he is going to fund the government of the United States of america. I just wanted to get your reaction to jordan having 20 republicans vote against him at this point. Rep. Huizenga in this atmosphere, im not sure anybody could expect anybody to get 217 votes right now. Jim now knows who hes got to go talk to. And i have heard different things. I have heard that he may lose some votes. I have heard hes also going to gain some votes. That a few of these folks needed to stick a protest stake in the ground and that they are very gettable after that. You look at four people sort of off voting for oneoff folks. I know my friends from new york voting for my former friend he is still my friend, but my former colleague, lee zeldin. Im not sure that thats a serious longterm position to hold. A lot of these folks, these are the republicans who basically gave you guys the majority to begin with. They are the ones representing biden districts. What does it say to you that they are the ones who have the biggest concerns about jordan at this point . Rep. Huizenga im not sure how big those concerns are because i am not in those private conversations to find out where they are. As i talk to some of the folks who still didnt vote for jim now, there is definitely pinched fingers about what happened with the process, both with kevin and again with steve and whats going on. Its not always necessarily at this stage that its all about who the candidate is on the floor. Can i just ask you though, when you think about the fact that you have not had a speaker for two weeks, is there a point in which you guys need to empower Patrick Mchenry or find an alternative candidate who can unite the party . Because it seems like there is still a lot of work to be done internally for publicans to unite behind anyone. Rep. Huizenga there is a lot of work that is being left behind right now. And this is not good for the country. Its not good as a check and balance on the biden administration. Certainly not good for our ally, israel, right now. That we dont have the ability to formally support them. So, this is unacceptable in my mind that we are going this long. We have to get serious about who its going to be. I give steve credit in that he figured out quickly that he was not going to be able to cross that finish line and become speaker. So he decided to allow someone else to try to do that. I think jims got a period of time here where hes got, has got to figure out whether hes going to be able to reach that 217 threshold or not. I think he can still get there. As i look at it, i think its still possible. I hope it is for his sake and for our sake to move on. [indiscernible] rep. Huizenga it depends how quickly well do these rounds. Look, we did four days initially getting into this. I hope we are able to move faster. It better not be one vote per day. I hope, we need to do much quicker than that. So im hoping that we are going to be coming back sometime soon and have another vote. Do you think we will ever see a speaker again . Rep. Huizenga of course we have to get one there. You asked about empowering the speaker pro tem. I dont think that that would be a direction necessarily that we would go. We probably might have to do something very limited, very temporary if there is really, truly, an impasse
