[applause] you are so blessed to have a sweet spot like this. I will tell you, dont ever forget Small Businesses are the heart of our economy. [applause] so i loved driving here today. Because i am in ida grove, the sweet part is this looks like a prettier version of where i grew up. So i grew up playing on farms, i played in a dairy farm surrounded by farm field. And every kind every time i come to iowa, i love that because there is a sweet peace about it. I grew up in a town of 2500 people, to stoplights, a little bigger then ida grove. You couldnt think about doing something wrong without someone already telling you off. Neighbors took care of neighbors, that is the blessing of growing up in a place like this. You know what it means to take care of each other. And everybodys child is your child, everybodys mother is your mother. And i love that about small towns. So my mom started a business out of the living room of our home, 30 years later it was a successful company. I started doing the books for the Family Business when i was 13. It wasnt until i got to college that i realized that was child labor. [laughter] i am not an ivy leaguer, i went to community college. I went to clemson, are there any tigers . I went on and graduated with an angry in accounting, with a degree in accounting. I am not a lawyer. Accountants are problem solvers. One day i was sitting with my mom telling her how hard it was to make a dollar and how easy it was for government to take it. And my mom said, quit complaining about it, do something about it. I did not know you worse you were not supposed to run against a 30 year incumbent. Once i realized he was related to half the district, the only option was to win. I told them we have way too many lawyers in the state house, i think we need a good accountant. The district took a chance on me and we won. My fight really was for Small Businesses at that time. After i had been there for a few years, the one thing that was happening in South Carolina if they mostly voted on things by voice vote, all in favor say aye, but one day, they voted themselves a pay raise. All in favor, say aye, all opposed, silence, the ayes have it. Yet to this day you cannot find someone who will say that they voted themselves a pay raise. I filed a bill that said anything important enough to be debated on the floor of the house or senate is important enough for people to know how their legislators voted. And the speaker of the house said, the bill away, we do not need to have it, we will decide what the public needs to see and what they dont. Well, long story short, after i decided not to put the bill away , they stripped me of everything. They stripped me of my sin euro t, he took me off all of my ash they they stripped me of all my seniority. So i ran for governor, and now anything debated on the house or senate requires a legislative vote on the record and we did it on every section of the budget. And you were listening to my playlist earlier, i love music. On the day of the bill signing, we blasted out the state house pat benatars hit me with your best shot. [applause] when i became governor, South Carolina was hurting. We had our jobs in the textile basket, when textiles went overseas, so did our jobs. We had thousands of people on welfare. And South Carolina was the book of the jokes. So we got to work. By the time i left, we were building planes with boeing, more bmws than any place the world, we brought in mercedesbenz, volvo, five International Tire companies and they were referring to us as the beast of the southeast, which i still love. [applause] we dropped that 11 unemployment down to 4 , and we acknowledged the truth. We said if you have to show picture id to get on a plane, you should have to show picture id to protect the integrity of the election voted election process. And we passed that. We passed one of the typist toughest illegal immigration laws in the country, and by the time i left, North Carolina was named the most patriotic state in the country and the number two state in the country people were moving to. Then i got the call from the united nations, and my honest answer was, i dont even know what the u. N. Does, just that everyone hates it. [laughter] i was not wrong about that, but when you get the chance to serve your country, you jump. When i got to the u. N. , i wanted countries to know what america was for and against. I did not care if they did not like me, but i wanted them to respect america, and we got to work. We pulled ourselves out of the iran deal. We passed the largest section sanctions against north korea. We moved to the embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem and acknowledged a truth. The biggest thing we did, we took the kick me sign off our back and america was respected again at the u. N. Now i am running for president and i do not need to tell you how bad things are. You do not need to turn on the news to see it. We are 34 trillion in debt. We are having to borrow money just to make our interest payments. China owns some of that debt. I would love to tell you that biden did that to us and he has sent us down the socialism creek that we have to stop because it is dangerous. But i have always spoken in hard truths and i will do that today because you deserve it. Are republicans did that to us too. You go back and look at that 2. 2 trillion covid stimulus bill that they passed with no accountability that has now expanded to where we have 100 million americans on medicaid, 42 million americans on food stamps. That is one third of our country. Did republicans try and make it right . They turned around and opened up a earmarks for the first time in 10 years, pushing through 7000 of them last december. Want to know how they spend your money . 10 million to tear down a hotel in alaska. 700 million on a courthouse in colorado, and the list goes on. In the 2024 appropriations budget, get ready, republicans put in 7. 4 billion worth of pet projects and earmarks. Democrats put in 2. 8 billion. Now you tell me who the big spenders are. All while one in six American Families cannot pay their you killing bills their utility bills, 50 of our American Families cannot afford diapers, Social Security will go bankrupt in 10 years, medicare will go bankrupt in eight. Congress has one major job. That is to fund the government. Do you know our congress has only delivered a budget on time four times in 40 years . You look at our education system. Everybody wants to blame covid for education. We had problems with education before covid. Precovid, 67 of eighth graders in our country were not proficient in reading or math. Think about that. Now, over 80 are not proficient in history or civics. They came out and said our 13yearolds are scoring at below with levels they have scored in decades in reading and math. We have got some serious issues. And all they want to do is focus on biological boys playing in girls sports . What has happened to us . Then you go and look at the border. Let me tell you, i have been to the border and i did not just go and come back. I went 400 miles down that border. You are not ready for what i saw. Mounds of clothing, paraphernalia, areas that the women and girls have to walk through. When most americans get up in the morning, they get their coffee and watch the news. When these ranchers it up in the morning, they get their coffee and see if anyone has died trying to go over the fence. I have met with multiple sheriffs. They round up whatever Illegal Immigrants they can find before 7 00 a. M. , turned them over to Border Patrol, Border Patrol documents them, and releases them until their court date years from now. When i asked Border Patrol about their job, they said, do you want to know what we do . We are glorified babysitters. They do not let us do our job. 6 million Illegal Immigrants have crossed that border. We had enough fentanyl cross the border that would kill every single american. The number one cause of death in america for adults 18 to 45, fentanyl. And dont think for a second china does not know what they are doing when they send it over. And my parents always told me, you take care of those who take care of you. I am going to ask you if we are taking care of those who take care of us. Right now in america, 33,000 veterans are homeless. One in three suffers from ptsd or thoughts of suicide. We lose 22 heroes a day to suicide. If a veteran needs a doctors appointment at the v. A. , on average it takes 29 days. Why 29 days . Because on the 30th day, they can go to the doctor or hospital of their choice. Midway through the 29 days, gate they get a call to reschedule, and the clock starts all over again. It is shameful how we treat our veterans. That is a lot of bad, right . It is hard to find anything good. Congress could have dealt with any one of those things, but what has Congress Done for you lately . Nothing. Dont you think it is finally time we had term limits in this country . [applause] dont you think it is time we have mental competency test for anyone over the age of 75 . I want to make it clear, because my mom always was like, nikki, you have got to be ladylike. I am not being disrespectful when i am saying that. We all know 75yearolds who can run circles. We know senator grassley, right . But we also know president biden. The senate has become the most privileged nursing home in the country. These are people making decisions on our National Security. These are people making decisions on the future of our economy. We need people who we know are at the top of their game, who are ready to make the hard decisions that need to be made. So now i am going to tell you what i told south carolinians when i became governor. No more whining. No more complaining. Now, we get to work. How do we fix it . When it comes to our economy, lets clawback the 500 billion dollars of unspent covid dollars that are still out there. [applause] instead of 87,000 irs agents going after middle america, lets go after the hundreds of billions of dollars of covid fraud that exists, one out of every seven dollars. If 8 of our budget is interest, quit borrowing. You have to balance a budget every day. I had to balance a budget as governor. Why is congress the only group that refuses to balance the budget . We will stop the spending, stop the borrowing, eliminate the earmarks, and i will veto any spending bill that does not take us back to precovid levels. We are for the first time saying seeing a loss of the middle class. The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer. We are going to change that. We will start by eliminating the gas and diesel, the federal gas and diesel tax in this country. [applause] you are spending 1000 more per car, and that has got to end. The second thing we will do is collapse the tax brackets so it is simple lipid you need more cash in your pockets if we will grow the middle class. Lets stop with the unfair distortions in the tax codes. Deductions like the state and local tax deduction. All that gives is more wealth to people in blue states. Lets make the Small Business tax cuts permanent. [applause] they made the Corporate Tax cuts permanent, but they made the Small Business tax cuts temporary. If Small Businesses are the heartbeat of america, we need to make those permanent. [applause] and we will make one thing clear to the members of congress. No budget on time, no pay. No more paying them for forgetting the budget. [applause] it is their job. If anyone of us did not do our job, we would not get paid. We will also make sure that we look at the programs on the federal side, think of all of those agencies. Lets move those programs down to the state level. Think education, welfare, health care. Just imagine if we reduced the sizes of those agencies and gave it to kim reynolds to manage. Wouldnt it be so much better . [applause] that is how well in power people on the ground are to do that. And lets focus on spending caps. You cannot spend more than you make. Put spending caps based on our economy and that is how we will get things back on track. Lets focus on making sure we are paying down debt, that we are stopping the excess spending, and we are starting to value taxpayers once again. That is what we will do. When it comes to education, we knew in South Carolina if a child could not read in third grade, they were four times less likely to graduate high school, so we started holding them back. We did reading remediation programs, brought in their parents, and set them up for success. We have got to get our kids reading again. Thats take that national, do the reading remediation plan, make sure that every child in america can read. Otherwise we will be in a world of hurt 10 years from now. [applause] and there should be complete transparency in the classroom. No parent should ever wonder what is being said or talk to their child in the classroom. [applause] i know as a mom we have one job. That is to make sure we do everything we can for our kids. That is why parents need to decide which schools their kids go to. We have to give a child every child deserves an education, regardless of where they are born or raised. No child should be meditated mandated to a school based on their zip code bit lets Start Building things than america again. Lets put vocational classes back in our high schools. [applause] we had apprenticeships all over South Carolina. We taught our kids how to build the things we are making, and we did that if we did that nationally, at the state level, what you did in your vocational classes in iowa what would be different than our classes in South Carolina, but our young people would start to get invested in our economy, and that is what we want them to have. We have to remember, we have to raise strong girls. Strong girls become strong women and strong women become strong leaders. It only happens when you take biological boys out of girls sports. We have to do that. [applause] when it comes to our border, we will do what i did in South Carolina but take it a step further. We will do a National Verification program and require businesses to show everyone they are hiring is here legally. We will defund sanctuary cities once and for all. You saw what happened in philadelphia and that has got to come to an end. We will go back to the remain in mexico policy because nobody wants to remain in mexico. We will put 25,000 Border Patrol and ice agents on the ground and let them do their jobs. [applause] and instead of catch and release, we will go to catch and deport. That is how we will end what is happening on the border. [applause] and i want to talk for a second everybody talks about the border and we need to close it. But lets talk about legal immigration. It is a broken system. It should not take someone 10 years to become a citizen in the United States, but republican and mccracken president s have done this wrong. Four too long, they have done it by quotas. We will take next number this year, x number next year. Go to your industry and see what they cannot find. Think agriculture, think tourism , think tech, think construction. If there are workers that they need, we get people who do those things. Do it based on marriage. That way when you are bringing people in, it builds up our economy do it based on merit. That way when you are bringing people in, it builds up our economy as well. When it comes to veterans, the media will show us when they are deployed and the tears are shed, and they will show us when our military men and women come home. It is a blessed day. I am the wife of a combat veteran. My husband michael served in afghanistan and when he came home, we said a prayer and we knew that we were blessed. But the hard part is when we got home. He could not hear loud noises. He could not be in crowds. Life had passed him by for the year he was in afghanistan and the transition was tough. We cannot just love our men and women when they are gone. We have got to love them when they come back home too. [applause] let us help them with that transition. Lets have telehealth so they get the Mental Health care they need right when they need it. Let them go to the doctor or hospital of their choice. They have earned that right. [applause] let their g. I. Benefits go to things other than education. And if you want to know how we are going to take care of their health care, i think every member of congress should have to get their health care from the v. A. [applause] it will be the best health care you have ever seen, guaranteed. Guaranteed. So we know what we need to do to get our Domestic Health in order. But if you look at what has happened, under the Biden Administration, with the democrats, it has been chaos. Think about it. You have got spending out of control. You have got crime at all time high levels. You have got a completely open border. You have got our institutions that have been infiltrated with all of this woke ideology. We have got a world in a mess. But remember, you do not chase democrat chaos with republican chaos. We need stability. We need to pull it together. Because look at the world right now. We talked about domestic policy. Lets talk about National Security. Every one of us should have a heavy heart for what is happening in israel right now. If you look at what has been allowed to have happened, just take a moment to think about the life of his life of an israeli today. They have just finished their quiet time, shabbat. They were celebrating the new year, having time with their families, and they woke up to people invading their homes, murdering families, taking kids from a concert, dragging them down the streets. Hostages of elderly, women, and children, taken. And what are they doing . Let me tell you what hamas did. They went into the streets and celebrated saying, death to israel, death to america. Think about that. Death to israel, death to america. The Iranian Regime hates us. You do not give money to a regime that hates america. [applause] i was on meet the press yesterday and secretary blinken went on before me. I was sitting in the chair listening to what he was saying. And he said, that 6 billion is going to humanitarian effort. [laughter] i dealt with the iranians. I dealt with everything that happened with israel when. I was at the united nations. It is a shell game, the way they move money around, so that 6 billion that they gave to them, opens up fix billion dollars for them to spend in terrorist opens up 6 billion for them to spend in terrorist activity. So much more than that has gone to the Iranian Regime. Who does iran send it to . Hamas, hezbollah, houthis. It is all going to terrorists. Now israel, shaken the way we were shaken on 9 11, with so many of their friends and loved ones that have died. And now they are sending their sons and daughters to fight the war. We need to understand in america, we can ever be so arrogant to think we do not need friends. We need friends. We needed them on 9 11. We can never be so arrogant to think that that wont happen to us. Iran says right now the easiest way to get americas through the southern border. It is completely open. We have to wake up. We have got the worst threat that americans face since world war ii with china. China has been planning were with us for years, and that is not me being dramatic. They are already here, have already infiltrated us bit they bought 400,000 acres of u. S. Soil. They are sending millions of dollars into our universities, stealing our research and spreading chinese propaganda. Did you ever think we would look at the sky and see a tiny spy balloon looking back at us . It was a national embarrassment. But you look at the fact if you got upset about that, did you know that 90 of the Law Enforcement drones in america are chinese . Imagine all of that surveillance that is happening all over our country. There is a list of technology we never want china to have because it builds up their military and threatens america. The Biden Administration approved 70 of that last year. And we have had more americans die of fentanyl than the iraq, afghanistan, and vietnam wars combined. We lost 75,000 americans to fentanyl last year. And then if you look at what the chinese have done with their military, they have strengthened their military, modernized their military. They now have the Largest Naval fleet in the world, they will have 400 ships in two years. We will not even have 350 ships in two decades. They are doing cyber, artificial intelligence, space, they have developed hypersonic missiles. We have barely gotten started. And now, china is the lead developer on neurostrike weapons. Weapons engineered to disrupt brain activity of military commanders and segments of the population. That is who we are dealing with. And biden and yellen wants to tell us that is a competitor . They do not cs as a competitor, they cs as an enemy. See us as a competitor, they see us as an enemy. You have russia invading ukraine, north korea testing ballistic missiles, hamas that has gone into israel, and hezbollah starting to shoot rockets there as well. But make no mistake, none of that would have happened had we not had that tobacco in afghanistan debacle in afghanistan. The idea that my husband and his brothers and sisters had to sit there and watch us leave the bomber airspace in the middle of the night without telling our friends who stood shoulder to shoulder with us for decades because we asked them to be there. Think about what that told our friends. More importantly, think about what that told our enemies. When america is distracted, the world is less safe. Let this be a lesson to us. You do not chase democrat chaos with republican chaos. We have got to pull it together. We have got to start focusing. But the only way to do that is to acknowledge our first problem. We have got to end this national selfloathing that has taken over our country. The idea that they say america is bad or rotten or racist. I was elected the first female minority governor in history. [applause] america is not racist. We are blessed. Our kids need to know to love america. They need to be saying the pledge of allegiance when they start school every day. [applause] you know, three months ago, i dropped my husband michael off at 4 00 a. M. Another year long deployment. And i watched him and 230 soldiers pick up their two duffel blacks duffel bags of belongings to go to a country they have never been, always in the name of protecting america. They are willing to sacrifice their lives and their families because they still believe in this amazing experiment that is america. So if they are willing to sacrifice their lives for us, shouldnt we be willing to fight for america here . [applause] because we have a country to save. But if we are going to do that, we have got to acknowledge some hard truths. Republicans have lost the last seven out of eight popular votes for president. That is nothing to be proud of. We should want to win the majority of americans, but the only way we will do that in 2024, you have to have a new generational leader. We have got to leave the negativity in the past. We have big issues and we need new Solutions Going forward. But we can do this. Do you remember when you were growing up how simple life was . You remember how safe it felt . It was about faith, family, and country. [applause] your parents raised you to be a responsible individual. You went to school and you learned everything you needed to be successful. You went to church and you found your faith and your conscience. Dont you want that again . [applause] we could have that again. But in order to do that, it will take a lot of courage. Courage from everyone here today. Courage for me to run. And courage for everyone of you to know, do not complain about what happens in the general election if you do not play in this caucus. It matters. It matters. [applause] because if we get a joe biden for president , that really means president kamala harris. Do not let anyone fool you. And we cannot survive that. Someone asked me why i was running, and i said, my parents came here 50 years ago to an america that was strong and proud and full of opportunities. I want them to know that country again. I am doing this for my husband michael and his military brothers and sisters, because they need to know their sacrifice matters. They need to know that we love our country. I am doing this for my daughter who just got married and i saw how hard it was for her and her husband to buy a home. And i am doing this for my son who is a senior in college and i am tired of watching him right papers on things he does not believe in just to get an a. That is not us. That is not america. And for the first time, 78 percent of americans do not think their kids are going to live as good of a life as we had. We cannot be ok with that. I am not ok with that. We do have a country to save. But i will make you this promise. If you will commit with us, you will join in this fight, i can assure you that americas best days are still to come. Thank you very much. Just raise your hand and ask your questions. Congratulations on being the first female senator. A lot of people do not believe that the United States is ready for a female president. What do you have to say to them . They have not met me yet. [applause] you know, this is what i will tell you. It is not that america is not ready for a female president. America has been ready, but it has got to be the right one. [applause] and i am telling you, if ever there was a time that the white house needs something, they need a badass republican woman in the white house. [applause] you have said that you would stop the chinese from purchasing land, but you also said you would get what they purchased back. How can you do that . Ms. Haley under National Security measures, so if there is a threat in america, if we see a National Security concern, which we know is there, we have the right to take that land back. We have to do whatever it takes. We know right now they are running cables underneath that farmland they bought. They bought the largest port producer right here in iowa. Remember, Food Security is National Security. As a utility and it benefits corporations, and congress voted in 25 q funding to provide funding for the Carbon Capture pipeline companies. So what could you do about this . Ms. Haley i will tell you i am in favor of Carbon Capture. That is a great thing, but i am not in favor of Eminent Domain at all. We have got to make sure that is your property, period. That is your property, and unless there is a National Security reason, they should not be able to take it. So i will always stand with the property owners, and that is what i did in South Carolina and what i will do in the country. It is important. [applause] i liked the question she asked about whether we were ready for a woman president , and i think we are. Are you worried about the rest of the world because of what they think about women and how they deal with them, like hamas and afghanistan, pakistan, putin . Ms. Haley it is a fair question because that has been on the minds of people, but the difference is i have been on the world stage bid i have dealt with 193 countries. That package of sanctions we did against north korea, i had to negotiate with russia and china to do it. So i have dealt with the iranians, the north koreans, the chinese, the russians. If you ask any of them, the way i dealt with it was i told him the truth, whether they wanted to hear it or not, and i was respected at the u. N. Because they knew i was tough, honest, and they knew that if they did anything to backstab us, there would be held to pay. That is what we have to make sure. What is missing right now is strength. It is not that you have to be the biggest person in the room, but you have to be willing to tell the truth no matter what. And you have to let them know exactly where they stand. The problem was biden is heat is too reactionary he is too reactionary. You have to let these countries know what we expect of them, not the other way around. I can handle all of them. [applause] if you have been elected president and you have your first phone call with the resident of china, what will you two talk about . Ms. Haley we will tell him we will start taking back the land they have purchased. We are going to tell them we will end all normal trade locations relations until they stop murdering normal americans. We will let them know that this is the end of stealing any intellectual property from us. We will let them know that if they care about doing anything with our economy, that they have to start doing certain things that make us want to do business with them again. We have to let china know where they stand. This is not the time to appease them. When i first get into office, if they pull the rug out from under us tomorrow, how would we be affected . Think about what happened during covid. Everyone told you to put on ask that was made in china. Everyone told you to take a covid test, and if you turn it over, that was made in china. That has to stop. That is the very first thing we do. [applause] and let me just give you an example. For all you parents, you know that we give this antibiotic to our kids for ear infections. We have a Great American Company Called u. S. Antibiotics. They are in bristol, tennessee. They manufacture the antibiotic. Do you know america does not by a single bit of it . They all by from china. That has to come to an end. If it is not made in america, we want a friend to make it, and that is why alliances matter. We want to build an alliance with australia, india, figure out how to get along with the arab countries. We have to go to countries that will not threaten us, and china, we will stop every ounce of dependency on china, and we will let them know that on day one. [applause] yes, sir. Governor, ambassador, thank you for coming to ida county, ida grove, and the pharmacy. I question to you is, you said you were going to get rid of the government tax on fuel. But biden, the first thing he was doing was shut down the Keystone Pipeline and that affected every businessman and farmer and trucker in the United States today. Government takeover is coming. He is trying to destroy the big oil, and i think the world of big oil. What will you do to take over that . Ms. Haley that is a great question. I was in midland, texas three or four months ago at an oil rig. Everybody should see what i saw. It is the most patriotic sites i have ever seen, and to see those workers, they know they are doing so much more than just a job. We are blessed with resources. We will make sure we do and all of the above energy approach. There were two things that are enemies at the you and never wanted us to have. At the u. N. Never wanted us to have. We will be energy dominant. We will be explored as much liquid natural gas to our friends as we can bid we should make sure we have every pipeline open. Right now is in america, we worry too much and the epa worries more about stage brush lizards about then whether americans can afford energy. We need to make sure we are doing permitting fast. Our investors need to know that they can count on us. Quit demonizing energy produces and start partnering with them to make sure that we are energy dominant. Lets get the epa out of the way and start focusing on being an energy hub for the world. No more going hat and hand to saudi arabia, no more getting dirty oil from iran or venezuela. Those days will be over. [applause] we have time for one more question. Ms. Haley make it a great one. Where are you, grayson . First off, i want to say, tell your husband dentist brothers and sisters, thank you for their service and they are in our prayers. Thank you. You will make a great president , but my concern is we have to get the right congress and senate in place. How do we go about that and know how to vote . Ms. Haley that is a bigger issue. You look at what happened in the house last week. And what that showed me was that they care more about themselves than they care about the American People. [applause] now, politics is a bloodsport. South carolina, if you can survive South Carolina, you can survive anything, but i will tell you, the one thing i did, even though i had a Republican House and republican senate, they almost bought more than republicans and democrats. The way i dealt with it was i would bring them into my office and say we are not leaving until you figure this out. I never wanted south carolinians to see all of this. Everything that we watched last week should have been done hind closed doors, and they should have come out united. Republicans needed to come out united, and the chaos that all of that did was the democrats won. The American People lost. So what i will tell you, not what i am going to do, but what i did as governor, the first thing i did was not legislation. It was controlling what i could control first. I replaced the head of every agency, whether they were doing a good job or not. I wanted to freshen up and start over. I sent people into every agency to clean it up. Bring down old laws, get rid of problem children. In some cases, we tweaked agencies and than other cases, we gutted agencies. Inca our government intelligence agencies, think of education, the doj. That is what we will have to do. You have to start showing a return on investment to taxpayers. Every 90 days, those agencies had to show the taxpayers what they were doing for them, and if you are costing a person or Business Time and you are costing them money, that is no longer acceptable. Then we saw they were spending money because they were worried they would not at the same amount in the budget not get the same amount in the budget. And after i did that, then i went to the legislature and i went and said, this is what i did, your turn. And it set the tone for what the expected. You have to show a tone and message of resolve. You have to show a tone and message of saving money, not spending money. You have to show a tone and message of working for the taxpayers and not the taxpayers working for you. Then i gave them a couple of bills to pass together. Just to remind them what it was like to win again. Almost like a mom. Like you reward your kids and they want to do it more and more. That is what we will do with congress. We have to get them working again, and then we will give them harder things and start to make them work. That is how i did it in South Carolina, that is how we will do it in the country. You deserve better than what you are getting right now. You deserve better. [applause] and i will take it a step further. I told you we have thousands of people on welfare. I went in South Carolina, this is what i will do to make sure we push these programs down to the state level. I went to the people that were on welfare and i went to businesses. I went to welfare and said if you will take this person and train them, i will pay for them for x number of weeks. And i said at the end of it, you decide if you want to hire them. We moved 35,000 people from welfare to work. In a lot of cases, the people did not know where to get the training. The businesses did not know where to get the workers. It is harder, but you match them up, and we had celebrations for those families because than a lot of cases, we broke that generational cycle of dependency. [applause] the other side of it was i went into our prisons. I wanted to know how people got in, what happened when they were there, and what happened to them when they left. I went into maximum security, the mens and womens, talks to inmates. We reformed our entire prison system. We put in computer classes, topped them how to do a resume, touch them financial planning. And we taught them a skill. Now in South Carolina when an inmate leaves, they have a job to go to. We have the lowest recidivism rate in the country. When you lift up the least, that is where the magic happens. That is what we need to do across america. We have got to break that generational cycle that is happening in too many places. You all have been so patient to listen to me. Thank you. I want to leave you with this and then you can clap for me. [laughter] when i ran against that longestserving legislator than the primary, people laughed at me, and i got to work and i earned their support, and we won. When i ran for governor, i ran against the lieutenant governor, an attorney general, a state senator. I had 3 at the polls, i had the least amount of money. But i worked South Carolina like no one else, and we won. When i got to the united nations, they said i did not have enough experience, and i got to work and took the kick me sign off our backs. I have been underestimated in everything i have ever done. And it is a blessing because it makes me scrappy. No one is going to outwork me in this race. No one is going to outsmart me in this race. We do have a country to save, so if you like what i had to say today, go tell 10 people. Tell them to go to nikkihal ey. Com.
